Wait, why don't they just play a home-home? Why is there just one game there? Seems like kind of a waste

I wouldnt hesitate taking Merkley. 1. He's a right handed dman and we all know how highly they're coveted. 2. He's outscoring the next closest guy on his team by 11. That is absurd. 3. He's one of the youngest in the draft 4. Attitude issues are often overblown. Guys usually grow out of it on their own or through tough love when they turn pro.

Really hope he turns pro after this year.

For whatever reason, I have to jam the 'post' button like 3x to get it to register

Other than Lovejoy sucking on the 3rd GA, have nothing but good things to say about this game as far as how the team played. I hope Wood runs Marchand and sends him through the glass next game. What a POS. If Johansson has another concussion, that would be...not good. Second one in about a month. If the Devils lose by 2 or less, I will be shocked

Appleby, Severson and Zacha were my only standouts. Putrid effort

Actually very well done by Ryan

Very nice win. Thank god we're finished playing in that hellhole this season. Really like how they put Palmieri on Zacha's line to spread out the offense. Zacha hasn't shown it by the numbers, but he has the skill to keep up with KP. That line torched the Isles all night. Put Noesen with Zajac/Johansson and Coleman with Boyle and Gibbons and I think that's the forward lineup I wanna see.

Less than 3GA would be cool- oh and a win, i guess Less than 3GA would be cool- oh and a win, i guess

It's been tough to do since we're relevant for the first in years, but this team has a ton of issues. The defense is firmly below average and our 2-4 top scorers are 19,19 and 23 (3 rookies). They've gotten virtually nothing from guys like Zajac, Stafford and Zacha and guys like Gibbons and Boyle are producing well above their ability. My hope, aside from a cup win of course, is that they make the playoffs, and show well and draft a blue chip dman at 16-20. They need talented blue liners in the worst way.

The Athletic is fantastic. If you're a hockey fan, it's easily worth the price.

This team is maddening, but fun! Much better than anyone could've expected.

Jonsson Fjallby has the best flow I've ever seen. Incredible

double post

The minutes he lost was basically 2 minutes of PP time per game. They need to ride him more at ES to make up the difference

I am in no means saying this team is a cup contender, but there are some metrics that suggest the Devils are an above average team. We already know that NJ has banked a lot of points and have set themselves up nicely to make the playoffs. As long as there is no prolonged tailspin, we should be in. Over the first 20-25 games, we won a lot of games through hot shooting, timely goaltending and some nice bounces. However, over the last 15 or so games, NJ has really improved. Over the last week, NJ's expected goals for % climbed over 50%. That means that based on our play, the Devils should be expected to outscore their opponents. I can't help but to mention, how good the Henrique for Vatanen swap was for us. Our shots against totals have declined and Vatanen has helped with transitions. I think Hynes/Nasreddine can help the team out even more by giving Severson more minutes. He is 5th in toi for dmen and he's likely our best. Just look at last night's loss in St. Louis. We got absolutely throttled in the first period. Any version of the 2013-2017 did not have the skill or confidence to pull themselves back in the game. I'm not saying this team is perfect, but it certainly ain't bad, either- and that's saying something.

They've been on the right end of breaks most of the time this year. They thoroughly dominated most of the game but didn't get the bounces or calls. We actually gained ground on a lot of the teams in the race. Pitt lost in regulation NYI lost in regulation CBJ lost in regulation NYR lost in a shootout
-
So Zacha is on pace for 30+ points playing in a bottom 6 role with little pp time. I know a lot of people (myself included) was hoping for a breakout, but he is improving.

Thought this was a good time to start this thread with this tournament looming. Un(fortunately), Hischier and Bratt are impact players on the big club so they will not be representing Switzerland and Sweden respectively. But don't fret Devils fans! We will be heavily represented at this tournament. Let's take a gander at the locks. Joey Anderson - RW, USA. Recently named captain and will play a ton of minutes in all situations. Michael McLeod- C/RW, Canada. Remember last year when he played like 4 minutes a game? That won't happen again. He will be one of Canada's most important players this year. Marian Studenic- RW, Slovakia. Will likely be Slovakia's best player this tournament. Hopefully he carry his stellar play from juniors to this tournament. Jesper Boqvist- C/LW, Sweden. Rare combo of speed and skill should be good to go after a broken hand sidelined him for a couple of months. Maybe @Marshall can expound on what role he will have. Mikhail Maltsev- C, Russia. A lot of projections have him slated in a top 6 center role for Russia. This tournament should give us a useful measuring stick on where he's at in his development. On the bubble. Fabian Zetterlund- LW, Sweden. One of the youngest players taken in last year's draft. Would be a feat to crack that team. Reilly Walsh- RD, USA. Skilled dman, with good offensive instincts. Yegor Zaitsev- LD, Russia. KHL regular at 19. I think he's a lock, but don't want to put him there as I know next to nothing about him.

Guessing lines will be similar to last night, though, Hayes and Santini may draw in. A win here would guarantee a winning road trip with CBJ looming next week!

Devils aquire Sami Vatanen for Henrique + Blandisi + '18 3rd

Let's see how Santini does when he's not getting impossible assignments -
