  1. I get the whole messing with team chemistry thing off the ice, but just dont think it's that big of a deal. I think he was pretty close with Palmieri, Hayes, Kinkaid and others. Who is not to say Sami won't be a good locker room guy, either? I heard a funny story yesterday about Vatanen when he initially got called up to the Ducks. He was staying at the same hotel the Sharks were and was in search of his morning coffee. Instead of going to a Starbucks or whatever, he just intrudes on the Sharks' team breakfast and helps himself to their coffee without saying a word or acknowledging anyone. The Sharks had no idea who he was because he was still a prospect. Point is, each guy brings his own quirks to the locker room dynamic. On the ice, we know Henrique didn't have good chemistry with anyone since Elias and before that, Parise/Kovy. With limited vision, average speed and ok hockey iq, he wasn't married to anyone like Nico/Hall or Zajac/Parise or Elias/Zubrus or Elias/Gomez or Elias/Gionta or Elias/Clarkson or Elias/Sykora(COME BACK PATTY :(). He just wasn't an easy guy to play with. The only above average traits in Henrique's game are finishing and penalty killing. He wasn't a possession driver, not a shot generator, not a great playmaker and his effort was a little spotty at times. I'm not big on calling out effort but you could see he wasn't engaged all the time. The thing I'll be interested in seeing is the new pk pairs. My guess: Zajac/Bratt.....Gibbons/Coleman....Hischier/Zacha
  2. IIRC, some Canucks fans were happy to rid themselves of Schneider because he had anxiety in Game 6 in the first round vs. Chicago, which forced him to leave the game. They used that episode to reason that Cory couldn't deliver a cup. Schneider has been fantastic this year and anyone saying otherwise is fooling themselves. He's the reason why we haven't been talking about the defense being an absolute disaster. Hopefully Vatanen will help keep the puck out of our end and help with zone exits- something we've been getting destroyed in all season.
  3. One last note - Henrique became expandable the last season or two. He was always suited for heavy systems employed by DeBoer, Sutter and Carlyle. Think Vatanen will flourish in our uptempo offense, as well
  4. Also, NJ just got a whole lot faster. Vatanen is a + skater whereas Henrique is average.
  5. Heh- I was going to write make a topic about Santini and the need to cut his minutes. On Henrique- Gonna miss the person, but not the player all that much. Obviously he scored some of the biggest goals in franchise history and that speaks for itself. However, he would disappear for weeks at a time. With Zacha, Quenneville, Johansson here and ready for extended roles, the writing was on the wall. Always appreciated how much he seemed to embrace and enjoy NJ. But boy did NJ really need to bolster the d corps. Vatanen is pretty solid both ways, is excellent on the pp and can pk. Where he will probably help the most is transitioning play from defense to offense. Aside from Severson and sometimes Moore, no one could really do this from the backend. Gimme a LD better than Greene in the offseason and we will be in business. Especially if it means we can rid ourselves of Moore. As of now, I'd like to see: Greene-Vatanen Moore-Severson Butcher-Santini Give the top 4 the harder minutes and give Butcher-Santini slightly harder minutes than Butcher has been playing and we'll be in business
  6. Although I'm not a huge fan of Carlson and think he is much closer to a second pair guy than top, having him, Severson and Santini on the right side of the d would be awesome. Now if we could just get a ld to play in front of Greene. Imagine: Klefbom-Carlson Greene -Severson Butcher-Santini My deal would be- Zacha, Henrique and a 2019 first for Klefbom next summer
  7. I won't go as far as saying this was our best game of the season, but it's up there. NJ dominated the 2nd and 3rd, which is nice to see. In past seasons, NJ didn't have the skill to put their opponents on their heels when chasing a late equalizer. Nice to see them get rewarded. Not getting the second point sucks, but they have had some good games lately. Toronto, Chicago and Minnesota come to mind. Yeah, he missed a wide open net, but holy **** Nico is special. He was doing whatever he wanted with the puck and Chara and McAvoy had no answer for him. Nice to see Bratt get back on the board. He needs to get going again. Thought Zajac had his best game of the season and Stafford didn't look useless.
  8. Zajac is absolutely a top 6 center and probably a better player than Nico now, if healthy. There is no other center on this team who can handle the Matthews', Crosby's, etc without getting crushed. Nico has not played well against a certain type of center this year because he is still physically immature. Koivu handed him his lunch and I'll bet Bergeron will tomorrow night if they see a lot of each other. Zajac and Hall were quietly one of the more effective duos in the league last year. I'd put them together when Zajac gets up to speed to let Nico destroy softer matchups. I agree with those who say Noesen needs to be back in. I know we've talked about it a lot in chat during games, but other than a few goals, Stafford has been a complete negative. No wheels, no creativity, effort seems inconsistent. Noesen back in means he can play net front on the PP and get Boyle the f off of there. Anyway, really hope NJ can take advantage of no Marchand and Krug tomorrow
  9. Man, I'm really digging that top 6. I agree with Jason in that I think Zacha is much better suited for wing.

    What about donations?
  11. Ya, I'd say: 50% Rhode Island 15% Mass 30% NJ/NY/CT/NH/PA 5% Everywhere else
  12. Yup. Graduated in '14. That Oregon loss was brutal but winning the A-10 and the game vs Creighton is probably my top sports moment in the last 5 years lol
  13. Haven't really followed URI's projections for the year, but they lost Hassan Martin, one of the best big men in the country. They demolished everybody's favorite 16 seed, UNC Asheville, on Friday.
  14. Devils desperately need Zajac. Nico will be a top line center and probably a star, but as @Marshall said the other day, he isnt one yet. Even though Zajac doesnt put up 1C numbers, he actually does a great job against the Tavares', Matthews' and Crosby's of the world. Nico has largely been getting sh!t on by elite centers, tho his possession numbers have actually been getting better.
  15. Team does not have the personnel to hold a one goal lead. I know part of it is that we (probably) arent all that great, but NJ should not be sitting back at all. Getting Zajac and Mojo back will help a ton. They are two of our better defensive forwards. I think it's time to talk about Stafford. Every line he plays on is a black hole. He nullified Hall-Nico and now he's doing a great job ruining Bratt. I hope they play him on the 3rd line with Henrique when he gets back. I'd like to roll something like: Hall-Zajac-Palmieri Johansson-Nico-Bratt Zacha-Henrique-Stafford Gibbons-Boyle-Coleman ex: Wood/Noesen
  16. Was hoping for a 2 pt road trip, so obviously 3 is good. I thought this was their best game of the trip. Nico might've had his best game of the night and Lovejoy was surprisingly effective. The top line crushed it, but the other three weren't nearly as good. Need to get some people back asap
  17. Thank god these next two are 9pm starts. I was running on coffee yesterday!
  18. The devils must have played a man down in at least 3 or 4 games. Not ideal
