  1. I have never associated the term rag with a homophobic slur, and honestly have no idea what you guys are talking about. I use it all the time to refer to the sh!theads across the river, but I always associated it with a underhanded reference to a female hygiene product.
  2. Great clutch win last night. The rollercoaster ride continues. Too bad the Oilers couldn't provide us with some help after going up 3-0 on CBJ. I thought the crowd was amazing last night, for a Tuesday night game vs. Carolina. Place was loud and the fans seem to be in playoff mode already. And the in arena ops team finally got smart by letting Baumann do his chant instead of playing music or the organ over it during a break in the action.
  3. The Carolina game was bad, but there was nothing worse than the feeling I had at the conclusion of Game 6 in the 1994 ECF vs. the Rags. We were up 3-2 in the series, at home, with a 2-0 lead in the second period when Powder scores a hat trick (that backhand goal off the right wing still haunts me) and we lose the game. It was a horrible, wretched feeling that I will never forget. You knew they weren't going to win Game 7 in the Garden, and deep down you also knew that whoever took the ECF was going to win the Stanley Cup that year.
  4. You know, I totally forgot about that. Why would they play with fire on things like that? You know someone with too much time on their hands is going to bring a consumer fraud suit against them because they didn't get a refund for that game, or because they keep f'ing around with the credits from the sell-back games.
  5. It's cool that the Devils are finally getting some recognition by the league, but it sucks that we have to lose a home game vs. the Oilers. They only come in once a year, and I really enjoy watching McDavid play in person. I am willing to bet that the Devils put this game down as the lowest tier for STH tiered pricing so they have to refund us the least amount of money for this game.
  6. Harris seems like he knows what he's doing. I think he would insulate himself well enough through his Real Estate Investment Trust so that nothing could come back on him personnally. The biggest takeaway from this article for me is the appearance of impropriety that these loans, and other transactions involving Trump and Kushner's family businesses, create because of their refusal to cede control of them during their term in Washington. These loans could just be normal business practice, but because Kushner is still an owner of the business that received them, rather than putting his ownership interest in a blind trust, it creates the basis for these types of stories and just looks bad, even if nothing shady is going on.
  7. At the end of the day, it's not the first trophy they bring out that anyone really remembers or cares about. I don't think Giguere's Conn Smythe banner is hanging from the rafters at the Honda Center. But, IMO, more weight should be given to performance in the SCF than in the other rounds for the Conn Smythe. Brodeur had a great playoffs as well, and outplayed Giggy in the Final. He should have gotten the award, although I definitely see the argument that was made for Giguere. It didn't help that the Devils split votes between Brodeur, Nieds, and Stevens while Giggy picked up the rest. However, I truly believe that, if the Rags, Habs, Flyers, or any of the teams that are part of the NHL's marketing machine had been there over the Devils, there is no way that award goes to Giggy. Not because there is some grand conspiracy against the Devils (there isn't), but because those teams just didn't get the respect they deserved both inside and outside the league at that time and continuing to the present.
  8. I'm sure you're being overly dramatic, but thankfully you're not Taylor Hall. One would hope that any professional athlete worth his salt wouldn't act so childish. They are (or should be) too competitive and prideful to pull some BS like that. I wouldn't even expect a 10 year old to act like that. And Hall isn't a FA until July 1, 2020, so he'd basically have to check out for 2 years.
  9. That's what I was thinking. You can also move Maroon up in the lineup to a middle 6 role if there are injuries. This basically ensures that Mojo is out for the rest of the season at this point, which is probably best for him and the team long term.
  10. Almost all draft picks are crapshoots. However, you need to have them to be able to have a successful franchise. Plus, this was a 2nd round pick, and our best defensive prospect. Grabner, a streaky player that is not used on the PP, is not worth that kind of a return IMO. This move reeks of something Lou would have done in the mid to late-2000's, where we give up picks and prospects for rentals with the hope that they help push us forward on a cup run. That kind of thinking only makes sense if a team is in or near the end of its cup window. However, this team has no realistic shot at winning a Stanley Cup this year and our window has barely begun to open. I just don't see how this fits into our rebuild, which should still be the plan going on here.
  11. I give Ray credit for having the guts to make this deal because it has the very real possibility of blowing up in his face a few years down the road. Picking up Grabner is a good move and should help us make the playoffs this year. But this is an overpayment for a 2 month rental. We now have no 2nd or 3rd round picks in a deep draft, for an organization that is midway through its rebuild and really has little depth in the org. overall. Plus, on top of the pick, we throw in our best D prospect. You can rationalize it all you want, and make yourselves feel better by saying he might never come over to play in the NHL, but this is a bad trade in the long run, which is exactly what this team should continue to look towards. And for anyone questioning whether Rykov will ever come over here, deep down you all know he will now that he has the attraction of playing in the World's Most Famous under the bright lights of Broadway. How could he possibly turn that down?
  12. Not a bid deal IMO. He's working for another organization now and has a job to do. If he feels he needs to stay in TOR so he can trade away JVR and pickup Ken Klee for the stretch run, so be it. Although it would be great to have him there in person, I guarantee he will record a video tribute to Patty which will be part of the presentation.
  13. This. Even the Olympic Dopers from Russia team has been underwhelming, and they are supposed to be the class of the field. In reality, you get better hockey played in the World Championships than we are seeing in these Olympics, which is sad. How else do you explain Germany making it to the medal round. I like the Olympics, and usually am really into the men's hockey tournament, but this year it's been very boring all around. The US team was poorly constructed. When the NHL decided not to go, they should have used the best players playing in college and Canadian Juniors, while sprinkling in a few vets here and there, rather than the other way around.
  14. How quickly can we pack Andrew's bags and get him over the Throgs Neck Bridge?
  15. Murphy pulled his list of NJ athletes straight from the Star Ledger article about it that ran on the first day of the Olympics. It was an article about Olympians with TIES to NJ, but didn't say they were FROM NJ. He (or likely his staff Twitter guy) didn't read the article closely enough. I've never held a ton of ill will towards Kovy even though he f'd us by leaving when he did. In the end, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because the contract was a mess. But seeing him celebrate scoring 2 goals against a team of beer leaguers out of Hackensack makes me wish he got hit in the head with an airplane like MartyistheBest said.
  16. I'd protect the following assuming Nico, Bratt, Butcher, and Santini are exempt and don't need to be protected. 7 F's - Hall, Mojo, Palms, Wood, Zajac, Zacha, Coleman 3 D - Vatanen, Severson, Mueller (or I could be convinced to protect Moore instead). 1 G - Cory If the expansion draft takes place after Nico, Bratt, Butcher and Santini are no longer exempt, it becomes really difficult.
  17. We need to continue to build for the future, not try to make a run by trading away assets we really don't have during a season where we clearly overachieved early and are now regressing to the mean. Stay the course Ray! Hard no on guys like Brassard.
  18. We are fvcked. This week is key for our playoff hopes, and Corey being out of the lineup could be the difference between us sneaking in and being on the outside looking in once again. I have no confidence in our backup goaltenders to make the big saves when we need them.
  19. Hell NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! That guy is a total sieve. You think KK is bad, Niemi will make him look like Brodeur. While this is true and he's been good on the draw most of the year, he was not good in the circle last night and lost of number of draws in the third period. He just looked slow to react once the puck was dropped throughout the night.
  20. There would have been an absolute riot (maybe not on Philly proportions) if that had happened. I can see someone like Hugh Weber thinking that logo looks good and would make a suitable replacement for our current logo.
  21. I don't know what the Philly/NY talk has to do with our current jerseys, but I must say ... "Suck it Philly!" I'm still amazed that this chant hasn't been started at our games when we play the Flyers, all things considered. As far as the jerseys go, my opinion has not changed. While they are not god aweful, they just don't look right to me and I don't like them. I will not be purchasing one anytime soon. However, I am starting to see more and more around the Rock, almost always with Hischier on the back.
  22. You just know that there is a moronic GM out there that is going to be willing to offer a 1st for him. The Rags always seem to find ways to make good trades to get out of bad contracts. Some team will look at the name and think this guy can still play at a high level, which we all know he can't. He's a big body, but is a soft perimeter player.
  23. You mean the Kerfoot treatment? I viewed that almost as a trade that both teams benefitted from.
