  1. Toronto would sign me to play in net for them before picking up Cory off waivers at his full $6 million+ cap hit. They basically can't afford the players they have. They definitely can't afford adding Cory to that payroll.
  2. I can see PK settling in the area should the Devils keep him for the next few years at least. NHL Network films out of Secaucus, and NBC Sports is based in Stamford, CT. Not to mention the numerous daily talk shows filmed out of NYC, if he's looking to go that route. It's a good area to live if you want to work in media for your post-playing days career.
  3. I personally don't boo the team, and didn't do it last night. However, they ABSOLUTELY deserved to be boo'd last night, after the cumulative blown leads and BS play that the fans have witnessed at home this season. It's ridiculous. Score 5 and are up by 2 with 12 minutes left in the game and need a goal with 7 seconds left in regulation just to salvage a point. There is no excuse for it, regardless of who the opponent is. I try to stay optimistic, especially early in the season, but between Cory whiffing on glove saves that my 8 year old son could make and Hall making blind passes at the offensive blueline that results in a turnover, odd man rush, and a goal against which would get a pee wee benched, its impossible to think that this season isn't an utter disaster at his point. The fact is that Hall, PK, Cory, and the other top players on this team are generally underachieving and this team is not good enough to overcome it. I'm just frustrated and have had enough of watching the same thing happen over and over again. Something needs to change.
  4. The old cow corral tunnel was the best. Small, dark, crowded, with corrugated metal walls that everyone would bang on after a big win. I remember when the built the "new" tunnel that the original was only meant to be temporary and last 5 years, maximum. It was there for like 20 years. The walk through that tunnel going back to the car after winning the cup in 1995 was something I will never forget. I thought that thing would collapse right onto the roadway below. Now I want a pretzel out of a shopping cart thinking about doing that walk with my father before and after games at the CAA. Good times.
  5. Nico is playing, but is with Zacha and Gusev. Hughes stays with hall and Palmieri. Blackwood in net. Butcheris out. Carrick, Boqvist and Bratt are scratches.
  6. It's not a great comparison. K. Hayes got his $$ in free agency, when everyone is overpriced and every team overpays. Nico has a number of controllable years left before he hits FA. I get what you are saying, and agree that Nico is a much better player than Hayes, However, as others have already said, Shero clearly thinks hes going to seriously outpace his average production to date and it is better to lock him up long term at a higher value than he would otherwise get now, which is a gamble I would take as well. I also think this deal eats into 1 or 2 of his FA years, which will drive the AAV up. Like the signing. Love Nico as a player and a cornerstone of this franchise for the foreseeable future.
  7. Please win this F'ing game! Let's go Devils!!!
  8. Although I was being overly dramatic, the fact remains that he's been pretty bad through most of the first 6 games here and his net front presence in the D zone has been weaker than I expected. Playing him with Severson is a mess. I expect PK will get better, but he's disappointed thus far.
  9. milestone moment coming up on Thursday.
  10. That, and the players that comprised those R-R pairs were also atrocious. Carrick and Tennyson are both AHLers that were absolutely dominated yesterday. That pair can't happen (ever) again. PK plays small in front of his own net and has no idea how to clear the crease. Getting out-muscled/positioned by Dadonov on the 6th goal is a perfect example of how bad he's been. Then you throw in the stupidity, with guys trying to force passes when they aren't there, make plays through the neutral zone when dumping the puck deep is the right and only play (looking at you Palms), and others being completely out of position and lost in their D zone coverage (I have no idea what Simmonds was doing or where he was going on FLA's 5th goal), and it all adds up to a miserable start to the season. fvcking unbelievable.
  11. It was Boqvist that took the penalty. Accidental high stick that drew blood.
  12. There is no reason opening night shouldn't be a sellout. Friday night game, with more buzz surrounding the offseason for this team in decades, plus the #1 pick making his debut. This game should sell itself. It's sad that there will be 2000+ empty seats, regardless of whether they paper the house and call it a sellout.
  13. It's going to be Naughty by Nature. After the VMA's, and PK and Hall both endorsing the song on Twitter, I would be shocked if they went with anything else at this point. Howl was fine and should have stayed the goal song.
  14. I will be there with my sons. This is the most excited I've seen them for a home opener. Can't wait!
  15. Yes!!!! Buffalo has Let me Clear My Throat, which is awesome. I'm completely in on this one.
  16. It sure as hell didn't hurt Lawrence Taylor's performance.
  17. For argument's sake ... how do we even know he was motioning to a woman? Could have been a dude for all we know.
  18. I can't see how Simmonds won't be on Hughes' right wing to start the season. He was brought in to be a bodyguard for Jack, as much as he is here to be a net front presence.
  19. The Rags fans still do the Potvin Sucks chant every game. The Isles fans do a Rangers sucks chant every game. It's not like we are the only ones doing it. It has become a tradition, for better for worse. If it gets the fans engaged and making some noise, I'm ok with it. The annoying part with the Rangers suck chant that we do is (a) that it is done 10x per period, and (b) the part about how the Flyers swallow, Crosby watches, Avery gives a reach around, Kane's a rapist, etc., etc. I mean, all of that may be true, but its a little classless to broadcast it to the world like that 41 nights a year. Just my 2 cents.
  20. Yes. Although a Devils Logo on the Pope's hat would really be the holy grail.
  21. Ray did use his ingenuity there because, if it wasn't for Hall, Nico and Hughes wouldn't be here. Mr. Lottery Ball is worth keeping around for another year solely for the guarantee of getting next year's #1 pick (Alexis Lafreniere?).
  22. Selfishly, because I hate the Rags, I hope this ends up being like the Kane/JVR draft, and not the Taylor vs. Tyler draft. That said, I don't think you can go wrong with either player and the Rags are going to be happy with whoever they get. I personally am thinking Hughes will be and should be the pick, as his skating and hands are off the charts. But my concern with Hughes is that he seems to play on the outside and pulls off of 1 on 1 puck battles too easily, even when he played in the U18 tournament a few weeks ago. Kakko plays a hard and heavy pro style game and he is ready to step into the NHL right now. I will say this though ... some of Kakko's goals, like the one yesterday, look great and require a lot of skill, but really are the result of horrible defense and goaltending. But the way he is manhandling guys like Suter is impressive.
  23. You pay that for McDavid, and maybe even a guy like Matthews. But definitely a big NO for Marner at that price. Great player, but not franchise changing
  24. I don't think Hughes will end up as a center either, especially early in his career. Can see him in a Patrick Kane role as his size and strength are his biggest deficiencies at this point.
