Canes got to get the puck down low on the PP. too much blue line wrist shots

God the rags are fvcking boring to watch. Block shots and pray for powerplays.

Good special teams and good goaltending. I remember when we were that boring.

I'm just kidding, you're right, they are not a fun team to watch. Neither of these teams have been, really.

  2. That Madden goal is what they call a back breaker. That Devils team was on some kind of roll and then they slammed into a wall. That’s the way playoff hockey goes sometimes.

No i just know these kind of subjects online never go well, it's not really hockey related and i'm legit making a conscious effort not to argue as much on here so

Feel free to message me about it in private if you want though

I know exactly what you're talking about.

This. Teams like the Rangers and Yankees never have to worry because other top players are always looking to head to NY. Their fan bases are also strikingly similar for some reason.

The cap kind of puts a limit on this advantage but the big markets will always have more cachet for big free agents. The team was somehow able to get Dougie Hamilton, but even if the Devils didn't, you don't need blue-chip free agents to win. You have to run a good organization, but it seems that the Devils are not run all that well. The team could have hired a good coach like the Rangers did. They did not.

“great series” lmao our bitter rivals played a depleted penguins team without their starting and backup goalie and, for 3 games, without their hall of fame leader.

it was a fvcking atrocious mockery of a series and i hope the canes win in 3 games.

That the Penguins gave them so much trouble playing Louis Domingue made it a great series. It was fun to watch. But I hear what you're saying. The team we hate squeaked out a win ... and the Penguins continually couldn't hold leads.

  6. I bring up Marchand because we are sorely lacking in sandpaper and because Boston is at an organizational crossroads if Bergeron retires. It would be a better idea if we had a goalie and were a contender. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Boston starts to explore trading Marchand if they bow out to Carolina and Bergeron hangs 'em up. The Bruins window maybe has closed.

I could absolutely understand Lou signing Palms to one year, maybe two...like I mentioned in a previous post, Fitz basically made a very similar kind of acquisition when he signed Tatar (a guy who also wasn't far removed from more productive seasons, but could also be on an early decline path)...Tatar's and Palms' production number this past year were actually damned near the same, but I'd rather have Tatar on a two-year deal than Palms at four (for some reason I thought it was five).  If Palms was willing to come back at about the same pay as Tatar for two years (more preferably one), I probably would've taken him over Tatar...as it turns out, neither guy really paid off for their respective teams in 2021-22.

My real beef with Lou going four years for Palms was who else was willing to give him that kind of offer?  Who was he bidding against?  2020-21 was prohibitive enough that I don't think many other teams would've gone more than two, even with Palms scoring some in the 2021 playoffs.  Palms was such a perfect "Show me" candidate...not the kind of player you look to lock up long-term off a subpar year...especially when you're not exactly flush with cap space.

I agree, the Palmieri contract is too long. Nice work by Palmieri and his agent.

It's looking more and more like he's going to leave a hell of a mess behind, once he gets fired or resigns.

That could very well happen but I wouldn't bet against Lamoriello. That being said, I don't think Zach Parise was a good pickup. And Palmieri might have been a poor signing.

  9. It's a good column by Larry Brooks. This line was weird, though:

I understand that playing experience is not a prerequisite for this type of undertaking, and neither is being of the male gender, but if a franchise icon is otherwise qualified, I’m interested.

Uh, yes, Larry. A male is required.
