  1. I am sick of the "we gotta play Elias with fill-in-the-blank" stuff. Elias has been matched with everyone under the sun. He has no excuse. It's time to score goals. This is supposed to be a player who is good enough to make others around him better. I think it's time to put away the chemistry sets for Elias and hold him to a litle higher standard. He should be a HELL of a lot more productive than this, I don't care what line he's playing on.
  2. Patrik Elias: from bargain to overpriced in an instant. LMFAO!

    Adrian Foster

Blackjack, I would like nothing more than for you to be right.

    Adrian Foster

I had high hopes for this kid, too, but let's face it: there's probably a good chance that the inujries will kill his career.
  5. Players who get put on waivers usually only get one more shot. LOL!

    Modin?

Hasan, what are you looking for, a guarantee? So what if Modin is only a 20-something goal scorer? Don't we need a 20-goal scorer? It's like people are in search of the next trade that lands a Mogilny-type and nothing else will do. Hello, earth is over here, people.
  7. Aylbert, Or the Devils can pick up no one and apply the Danton/Zyuzin/Salomonsson savings to the bottom line.
  8. Has anyone seen the movie on his life: The Legend of Druken Master?

    Modin?

It's appropriate that a Ranger fan comes up with the Ice Capades comment. You could argue that Ice Capades is Cablevision's best show on ice! LMAO! One of the posters in the newyorkrangerscafe used to call the former Rangers president "Dave Checkettes" because he oversaw the Rangers, Knicks and Radio City Music Hall. Checkettes, Rockettes, get it?? LOL! Anyway, back to Friesen. A guy with his speed should be a dangerous player, but he isn't. I'm not sure what the reason is: poor instincts, lack of desire, not that great a shot

    Modin?

    I'll buy that.
  11. Jerrydevil

    Modin?

    Yeah, but Cory Cross??????!!!!! LMAO!
  12. He's only been here a little while, but Friesen doesn't strike me as, shall we say, competitive. My advice to Jeff is to watch the way Sergei Brylin plays and try to mimic that.

    Modin?

Triumph, I don't think you should bring up the Toronto trade for Cross as if the Leafs did the right thing. The Leafs blew that one, big time.
  14. Jerrydevil

    Modin?

56 points? God, sign him up! We could use 56 points! I never said he was great, Triumph. I said he was very good. He's not aggressive, but I wouldn't call him soft either. He's like Jagr in that he's hard to knock off the puck when he has it (please, folks, I am not saying he is Jagr). He's got way above average offensive skills. If Tampa would take Gionta and Berglund, I'd jump all over that. It's worth the risk.
  15. That's a doozy all right. From a personnel perspective, the trade doesn't make much sense. But if the Devils are desperate enough to cut costs, who knows? Aylbert, I think the partners are upset because the Star Ledger reporters found out the truth, that the Devils are struggling financially. Just because Lou said the Devils aren't cash-strapped, you believe him?
  16. Jerrydevil

    Modin?

I like him. He's a very good offensive player. He's better than Jeff Friesen. The only thing I don't like is the injury bug. Other than that, this is a guy that can probably help the Devils.
  17. Great point. Although, I'm sure the whole city has Buckeye fever right now. LOL!
  18. LIDevsfan, that's an interesting point about keeping the rivalries fresh and that too many games against a rival would water it down. Personally, I am wanting more.....six or seven games instead of five. I don't want eight or nine. As for the underlying problem: when the fans perceive that they're not getting enough entertainment for their money, it's a problem. There's only ONE reason why I buy the six-game plan.....so I get the playoff tickets guaranteed, not so I can watch six regular season games. I'd rather watch the regular season games at home......except for the Ranger and Flyer games.
  19. It's still a Canadian sport. That won't ever change. That's the first thing. And in the U.S., hockey's a regional sport. Lucrative national TV contracts are a pipe dream. Plus, the excitement of the game is centered around rivalries, not nationally known superstars. Let's face it, what do the fans like better: a chance to see the stars from other teams play in their building or a hot-tempered game against a hated opponent? The answer is obvious. If the NHL understood this, there'd be more than 5 inter-division games against each team. Also, NHL teams have to get it through their skulls: the gate is everything in hockey, and during a looooooooong regular season, you have to give the fans a reason to spend their money to come out and watch the yawn matchups. I don't feel like spending $40-plus to head to a Devil-Ducks game. Give me a discount, parking coupon, something.
  20. I tend to agree with Eddie and Triumph. I'm disappointed in Nieuwendyk so far, but I think the reward will be greater if we hang onto Joe and wait till he heats up. I could be wrong, but trading a guy like Nieuwendyk could rock that locker room negatively. Anyone consider that? Nevertheless, we need a lot more production from Joe.
  21. LIDevsFan, The Claude deal in 1995 was the worst one Lou made, I agree. That whole faxed-contract thing was a bizarre and unfortunate situation. We lost our playoff hero and Steve Thomas was a disappointment here. By the way, I hear it's snowing like crazy on the Island, more than in NJ.
  22. The Gilmour deal was a bad one??!! Those of you who think that it was a bad trade are using that "hindsight is 20/20" BS. That trade was an absolute NO-BRAINER at the time. We got a star player for two seasons (yeah, he ended up hurt a lot, I know) and at the time he was considered to be the missing piece the Devils needed. Without him, Ottawa would have swept us in 1998, LMAO! Honestly, I can't think of ONE time that Lou was taken to the cleaners on a trade. There's no Naslund-for-Stojanov trades on Lou's resume. But there a lot of brilliant ones, like the Mogilny, Richer, Holik and Lemieux deals (especially the first one with Monteal).
