Does feel like Fitz is preparing himself for not having McLeod, that’s for damned sure.

Hedging his bet? If he was really concerned, he might have let McLeod walk.

Other than looking a little raw at times, the eye test didn't really provide any major red flags either.

As well as he played against the Rangers, I thought Schmid got a little lucky. At times his rebound control is not that much better than Blackwood's. However, I think your idea to give Schmid a real chance is reasonable.

I also agree with CR1976 that an extension for Hellebuyck should not be 8 years, it should be half that. I do want him here but not for 8 years guaranteed.

As much as I appreciated him here, he just can't bring it in the playoffs. We need a young Barbeshev kind of pickup

Yeah, he just had the one goal in Game 7 against the Rangers. Disappointing. But he had quite a good regular season for us.

It is pretty wild how not signing on July 1 really fvcks you as a player.

It's one of the bad aspects of the cap. It is bad for the middle-of-the-road forward, especially if you're over 30.

Same in baseball, which has a soft cap. Many second-level hitters -- productive hitters -- don't get multi-year contracts.

Fire Buck and Eppler and start doing what needs to be done to build a sustainable winner.

The Mets seems to spring a new leak every day, but no matter how much money you spend on stars, you can't be really good unless you have a good bullpen, and those guys don't make a lot of money. Lately it's been more than the bullpen though. The hitting has come up way short. Pete Alonso is Dave Kingman this year. The Squirrel can't find a nut.

  6. Wow, it's July 18 and Tomas Tatar still hasn't signed a contract. It's too bad that to get the highest dollar amount, he's probably going to have hook on with a team trying to get to the cap floor.  I hope we can bring him back for a year. He was such a good "glue" player for us last season. But it's probably not going to happen.

Smith was freaking trash from the beginning and this trade become one of the best in Devils history.

When Smith made the all rookie team his first season, did you see something that made you believe he was not going to be successful?

there was only one obvious answer to this one for me because he's a Bruins legend and he is an executive now.

I guess Pederson's obvious, too, because he was traded for Cam Neely! What a trade that was for Boston.

Yep, made his inconsistent play later in his career up there that much for frustrating for the Sabres organization.

Even more frustrating when he won two Cups for Pittsburgh.

The funny thing is that I could've used Pederson twice...he worked for Van-Bos too.  FUUUUUUUUUUCK!

LOL that's the one that I used Smolinski for heh heh.

And of course I missed a very obvious one between Buffalo and Boston that didn't happen all that long ago, and of course involved a prominent ex-Devil...dammit!

Plus there's a certain Vezina winner this year.

I got 7/9 and a "uniqueness" score of 270.  Got all of Calder winners, but was stumped on the Buf-Bos and Van-Bos connection.  Felt like they were right there but just couldn't get those damned names.

Some of the players that I came up with I ready had to dive deep in my memory well:  Bryan Smolinski, Barry Pederson, heh heh.

There's quite a few for Buffalo-Boston. I went with Randy Burridge of all people.

I tried puckdoku too. It is hard.

Though the one I tried had the Sharks, ducks and blues. I imagine 3 or 4 eastern conf or metro teams might be a bit easier.

Gordle has been around for at least a year, and is tough but easier than puck puzzle above.

(and probably brought up before on our forum, but I'll re-paste it.)

I aced the one today, but I did the Sharks-Ducks-Blues one and didn't do too well. I'm better at remembering Eastern Conference players because I'm more familiar with them, especially the depth players.

See, I thought the same thing this season before Akira came up. I was like "you know what Blackwood can do this #2 thing I think". And then he got hurt AGAIN. that was the breaking point for me. He can't stay healthy even as a #2 IF he could I think he'd be a great back up but he's shown us time and time again...he cant.

Since that one good stretch he had a few years ago, he hasn’t seized his chances, whether it was because of injury or subpar play. Vitek and Akira did seize their chances. And that’s the story.

No one's signing him for eight years.  Maybe three tops.

At least it sounds like the Devils will get something in return...still don't see it being much, but somethin is better than nothin.

    Making room for Hellebuyck.

So it was the usual cringe fest I guess? Coming in second in the entire league isn't something to be dismissive over, a few years ago no Devils names were on these.

Well, we did have a Hart Trophy winner five years ago in one of the greatest seasons a Devil has ever had.

How far Taylor Hall has fallen. From Hart winner to salary dump in 5 years. He's only 31. Thank god we traded him.
