After the next five games comes the All-Star break. I kind of like that they're playing all these good teams at once (and no back-to-backs), because it virtually guarantees they'll get at least four points, as the Devils don't usually suffer prolongated losing streaks and also usually give their best in the big games.

We all did. I think the team, as defending champions pretty much deserves everyone's benefit of the doubt for a year, at least in as much as people are saying they DEFINITELY won't win. You can think they won't win but don't be so definite about it, not after last year. That said, the Devils probably are not winning IF Stevens doesn't come back and the injury bug continues to hit (now Friesen's banged up supposedly). But you can say that about pretty much every team and one of their two-three most important players who also happens to be the captain. If Ottawa lost Hossa or Chara they'd still be pretty good though not quite the machine they look like now (of course they looked like a machine last year too and we know what happened in the end). If Toronto lost Belfour or Sundin they wouldn't be as good.

I should clarify one thing before I (finally) go off to bed...this isn't just a matter of your comment which you've since taken back. There were apparently some other posts that went beyond anything like that tonight which got deleted that I myself didn't even see, and there were other posts a few days ago that went beyond it as well.

On the one hand, I hesitate to make this post cause it's gonna come off as another admin preaching even though I've been an admin for like five minutes. On the other hand, I feel compelled to make this post just cause it's the right thing to do. Jason, I've been here about a year and a half now...I've NEVER seen anyone get banned for 'personal' reasons. When people get banned it's generally because they are an incorrigible pain in the butt to a majority of the board and their only purpose for posting is to be an incorrigible pain in the butt and they get warned and still do it. As far as RD goes, she's not asking anyone to agree with her all the time. Lord knows everyone is going to disagree with pretty much every other poster at times. What would the board be without good debates, after all? It would be nice if she got treated with a little more respect though...she does do more than people realize for the site. On a personal note I will say I had the wrong impression of her at first myself, to this day I don't know why...but she's really a good person if you give her a chance and get to know her

Whadarya picking on her for? Pretty much everyone's taken their shots at Igor and rightfully so. He's sucked this year. A sad ending to a great career.

A natural hattrick for Igor would be what, a penalty, a faceoff loss leading to a goal, and a shot that misses the net? He's got at least one out of three so far, probably two.

Yeah I looked it up afterward, can't believe I missed that one. And I got a couple I'm surprised I got. Oh well, at least it didn't count...heh.

Clemmensen's 27, Ahonen's I think 20 or 21. Clemmensen's been in the organization for years and had never gotten a start at the pro level; it was his turn so to speak. EDIT: I'm getting sammy's disease, that's like the third or fourth thread where I'm on top tonight

Only the Rangers could basically get Jagr for 50 cents on the dollar and then a mere week later, LOSE to a Capitals team without Jagr and Gonchar! Of course they did basically the same thing with Kovalev last year and then lost a key late season game to the liquidated Penguins. Rangers hockey, gotta love it! (well except if you're a Ranger fan)

Of course the fans were booing, they were booing them for their last game. They had just lost 9-1 on the road, they weren't going to get a Standing O.

To be honest, a -2 isn't terribly impressive either considering the Devils might set a record for fewest goals allowed in an 82-game season. A -2 would be impressive on Pittsburgh, but not the Devils. That said it'd be nice if everyone left the kid alone, he's been playing better lately. Hell he was one of the few good Devils when the team was struggling.

Mark my words, Phoenix will be this years Mighty Ducks. Phoenix is not even IN the playoffs as of now though. In fact I think they're a few points out. Calgary, San Jose and Nashville could all be this year's Ducks.

How is Rachunek a dissapointment? He's a plus 15 with 13 points. Not a great, great point total but he's not supposed to be Rob Blake either. JD and Rosen were raving about this guy in the Ranger-Sens game.

I've heard that said about Brodeur. I don't believe it, but people do say that. I can't believe anyone would still say that after LAST year though.

Damn sounds like Heatley's getting some great early chances...the Blues goalie just made a great stop according to the Thrashers' radio.

Well it's typical of ESPN to drop the ball like this...I mean I admit I'm not a hockey junkie like most of you. I watch the Devils, maybe a couple of Ranger games and that's pretty much it for the year for my hockey viewing, including the playoffs. But I'd actually watch this one if it were on as would a lot of other people but of course ESPN has to show the Flyers for the gazillionth time

Lucky me, that's the only All-Star game I've ever watched in any sport. And probably the only one I ever will for some time, although I do kind of hope the West kicks the East's butt this time around - for two out of the three periods, anyway. One thing I do not want to see is the NHL try to make the All-Star game more meaningful by making the Stanley Cup Finals home-ice advantage contingent on who wins the All-Star game like baseball now does. That's asinine IMO; it's an exhibition game, it should stay an exhibition game.

The timing couldn't be better...Atlanta's done a good job hanging in there but they were starting to fade and were probably another couple of weeks from falling out of contention. Given that, you would hope they're not rushing him BUT it doesn't sound like there's any consternation about bringing him back at least. They even say they plan to play him major minutes.

Well, JMO but I hope they're real trivia questions and not the guess the player stuff we've seen here for the most part. Not that I'd have much of a chance either way since I'm not a hockey history buff, but still the guess the player stuff doesn't seem like trivia to me. Maybe half of the contest could be Devils trivia and the other half general NHL trivia. Of course the Devils trivia would be tricky cause you could 'cheat' and find the answers in the media guide for the most part.
