If effort was the problem I believe that if not Stevens surely BURNS, who never met a butt he wouldn't blister, would be on them for lack of effort. Until Burns reads the riot act I'm not going to believe it's a lack of effort.
It's a slump. It happens, even to us. The Devils have always been living on the edge as far as goal-scoring but now they've gone over the edge without Langs and with Friesen having an even longer hibernation than last year. They're missing some key role players too. Of course they know they're held to a higher standard (see my sig) they don't need Stevens or Burns to point that out ALL the time. But they just came off a nine games out of ten stretch on the road over the last three weeks and they have some guys hurt.
If the losing continues you bet your bottom dollar one of them (if not both) will speak up, but there is still a half-filled glass here. This year's team is 11 games over .500 less than halfway through the season. Last year's team was 26 games over .500, so we're still on pace to be very close to last year's pace which was a 108-point season. The Devils in this slump (one win in six games) still have gotten points in four of the six games - one win, two ties (granted bad ties but still points), and an OT loss. They're five points off the Flyers with three games in hand; they're still not 'that' far back.
