  1. AHL 1/8 Albany defeated Syracuse 6-4. Offensive leaders for Albany included Sislo with 2 goals and an assist, Boucher and Lorito with a goal and an assist each, and Blandisi with 3 assists. The other goal scorers were Pelley and Tropp. Sislo had 7 shots as the Devils outshot the Crunch 31-23. Danis made 19 saves to earn the victory. Albany went 2/6 on the PP and 2/2 on the PK. Drouin had 2 goals and 5 shots for the Crunch. Here is the gamesheet. 3. Fell really behind on this thread but I figure now would be a good time to catch up as Albany has a 3 in 3 this weekend. Albany went 4-3 in the 7 games since the last update. That included a 3 game losing streak followed by their current 4 game winning streak. Albany is 2nd in the North Division, 3rd in the Eastern Conference with 43 points from 31 games thanks in large part to strong special teams play. Yann Danis and Mike Sislo were also just named all-stars. Jim O'Brien has been hot lately with 3 goals and 2 assists over his last 4 games. Reid Boucher has 12 goals and 11 assists in 26 games. Over his last 3 games he has 2 goals and 2 assists. Albany's had a few guys injured but Hrabarenka just made his return after missing quite some time and now it looks like they'll just be without Coleman, Novak, and Helgeson for the time being. The only thing worth mentioning about the ECHL guys is that Appleby has been a bit inconsistent of late.

  12. The best I can come up with is their all situation PDO which is 103.40% on the season. They've been above 100 since the 8th game of the season. The special teams have been crazy this year, 27.45 PP% and 90.91 PK%. Not sure how much is luck and how much is just improvement this season. Seem to be high on both right now.
  13. AHL 12/11 Albany defeated Syracuse 3-1 for their 7th straight win. O'Brien returned from injury and had the first two goals with Tropp and Boucher assisting on each. Burlon scored the other goal with Tropp earning the assist. O'Brien had 4 shots as the Devils outshot the Crunch 27-18. Wedgewood made 17 saves in his first AHL start of the season. 16. Cessa split time between AA and AAA last year and his time in AAA was split between the Mets and Tigers. In 24.1 AAA innings with the Mets he had a 8.51 ERA despite having excellent numbers: 8.88 K/9, 1.48 BB/9, 6.00 K/BB, and 3.85 FIP. Judging by the .425 BABIP, he must've been very, very unlucky in that small sample. Have to wonder if that team behind him was atrocious defensively. Overall, his numbers are pretty solid for his minor league career. This kind of reminds me of the Shawn Kelley trade and the prospect they got for him, Johnny Barbato could be a relief option for the big club this season. I'm sure Cashman will find a vet or two to bring in to help fill the void in the bullpen now. I'm still fairly confident in some of the young guys that rode in the AAA/MLB shuttle this season to step up on a full time basis next year.
  17. Yankees trade Justin Wilson for 2 SP prospects. I like this move since they are selling high on Wilson and relievers are the most volatile year to year. They get back 23 year old Luis Cessa and 24 year old Chad Green. Both guys where in MLB.com's Top 30 Tigers prospects. Cessa is a former Mets prospect that went over to Detroit in the Cespedes deal. Judging by his stats, he's got some nice K/BB rates at all levels of the minors. He's already had 12 AAA starts and doesn't seem that far off from contributing at the major league level. Seems like a nice young, arm to get in return for a reliever. I like it. Green has only reached AA but has some decent stats. Doesn't seem to offer as much upside as Cessa but is an interesting arm. I'm not too worried about losing Wilson. The Yankees have quite a few MLB ready relievers in AAA ready to step up. There seems to be some belief out there that the Yankees may end up flipping Cessa and/or Green. We'll see what happens.
  18. Big weekend for the UFC. Action kicks off Thursday with a Fightpass event, UFC Fight Night: Namajunas vs. VanZant. Was originally supposed to be headlined by Calderwood vs. VanZant but JoJo was injured. A lot of my favorite up and coming fighters and/or TUF alums are on this. Main Card Women's Strawweight Rose Namajunas vs. Paige VanZant Lightweight Jim Miller vs. Michael Chiesa Lightweight Sage Northcutt vs. Cody Pfister Middleweight Elias Theodorou vs. Thiago Santos -- Huge fight in the SW division. I'm pulling for Thug Rose. Sage Northcutt's who star is shining brightly has his 2nd UFC fight. One of my favorites, Elias Theodorou looks to go 12-0 and 4-0 in the UFC. Prelims Welterweight Tim Means vs. John Howard Welterweight Omari Akhmedov vs. Sérgio Moraes Middleweight Antônio Carlos Júnior vs. Kevin Casey Bantamweight Aljamain Sterling vs. Johnny Eduardo Welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Andreas Ståhl Welterweight Danny Roberts vs. Nathan Coy Featherweight Zubaira Tukhugov vs. Phillipe Nover Women's Strawweight Kailin Curran vs. Emily Kagan -- Aljamain Sterling has an interesting style and will look to go 12-0 and 4-0 in the UFC. Nathan Coy is a longtime veteran and another guy from TUF. Just a guy that I had a lot of respect for watching him on the show. Thrilled to see him get his first UFC fight at age 37. He actually replaced his injured teammate Michael Graves on this card. Kailin Curran has dropped 2 straight, one to VanZant and the other to Alex Chambers (Curran had been dominating that fight for the first 2 rounds). I really think she could go on a run in the division. Maybe this is the start of that run.
  19. I'm cheering for McGregor but I'm expecting Aldo to win. Though part of that is me setting myself up to not be disappointed if it happens. I am curious to see if Aldo has any rust considering his last fight was October 2014. I'm really pulling for Chris Weidman in the co-main. He seems like a good dude and he's kinda, sort of the "local guy". Jacare vs. Romero is an interesting matchup. Jacare could grab his title shot with a win. I'm not really a fan of Romero, especially after the Kennedy fight shenanigans, but he's got some serious KO power. Maia vs. Nelson should be an awesome technical matchup. I think Nelson takes it. Huge fight for Max Holloway's career. Can he make it 8 in a row since his loss to McGregor in 2013? Really getting himself into the contender picture. Also looking forward to watching Faber and Torres on the prelims.
  20. My initial reaction to this trade was "meh". I'm not really a big believer in Castro given how inconsistent he's been in his career. The highs are good, the lows are abysmal. Plus, I appreciated the versatility and value that Warren was able to bring. While Warren is cheaper and provides similar, if not greater value, I do understand why the Yankees are taking a chance on Castro. 1. He fits into the youth movement as 2016 will be his age 26 season. 2. By all accounts, he seems to have excelled since moving to 2B during last season on both sides of the ball. We'll find out how that plays out over the course of a full season but there may be some upside there. 3. Maybe the change of scenery with some new coaching by Cockrell and Thames can help him get back to his 2010-12 and 2014 offensive production. 4. He's signed thru 2019 at a pretty fair value per year. Option for 2020. If he can be an average 2B during that time, it's an affordable deal.
  21. Tuesday 12/8 WHL Brandon lost to Calgary 6-4 John Quenneville C: Goal, Assist (PP), -3, 2 PIM (Interference), 3rd Star Season: 24 GP 12-18-30, +10, 32 PIM Edmonton defeated Prince Albert 2-1 Brandon Baddock C: E, 2 PIM (Checking to Head), 2 Shots Season: 30 GP 9-3-12, -11, 68 PIM
  22. AHL 12/6 Albany defeated Syracuse 4-0. Boucher, Kelly, Blandisi, and Novak had the goals for Albany. Sislo had 3 assists followed by Gragnani with 2 and Burlon with 1. Boucher had 4 shots as the Devils outshot the Crunch 24-23. Danis made 23 saves for his 4th shutout of the year. Albany went 2/4 on the PP and 6/6 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.
