  1. Not sure if he has an NHL option in his contract, but Lehtonen signed a two year contract with Jokerit in the KHL back in April. Not sure if the KHL has contracts with NHL options, however.
  2. I personally had Caufield at 11th before the U18's, he's still in that area but I've been flirting with moving him up to 9th after the tournament. With how late in the scouting cycle it is, that's kinda the biggest impact one tournament can have for 1st round talent players, later round players can shift around so much more but by now opinions are pretty solidified on the top prospects. That's why I think it's ridiculous that people think Kakko is gonna pass Hughes just because of a good World Championship, these kids have been getting scouted for 2-3 years now, two weeks isn't gonna make a drastic difference.
  3. That's pretty accurate, in terms of league strength, it probably looks something like this: 1. NHL 2. KHL 3. SHL 4. LIIGA 5. AHL 6. NLA (Switzerland) While there's obviously due credit for producing the way he has against men and pros over in Finland, there's countless examples of high producers coming over from Finland and struggling even in the AHL, see Malte Stromwall, Henrik Haapala, Ville Meskanen, Antti Suomela as examples over just the past two years. I obviously believe Kakko is on a way different plane than the players I just cited, but production in the LIIGA is a little more overstated than it deserves. Like Kournianos said, Hughes has produced at an unprecedented 2:1 or 3:1 clip at the US Program for years now, and the U18 Program plays a good chunk of their games against college teams as well, so even playing at the program he was playing against guys 4-6 years older than him with pretty frequent regularity.
  4. Both are amazing, living in upstate NY for the past couple years has sucked in that regard because the pizza up here is trash compared to back home. Not sure if anyone has been there, but Kinchley's in Ramsey is probably the best pizza I've ever had.
  5. Zetterlund and Maltsev both signed to ELC's, nice to see Maltsev coming over from Russia since that was somewhat of an unknown.
  6. I think the team I'm rooting for the rest of the way is San Jose. Would love to see Thornton finally get his cup, it would be a shame if arguably the greatest pure playmaker in NHL history never wins a Cup.
  7. I wouldn't really read a ton into it, most of the forwards are established NHLers and if he wasn't getting a spot in the top 6, tie likely goes to the veteran for a bottom 6 role. I think he could bring a bigger impact than Kruger, Nygard, Lander, M. Kempe, and Rasmussen, but we all know how hockey people like to favor older players. Still think it's entirely reasonable to expect Boqvist could be on the team next season. Kid is by far our best and most skilled forward prospect (unless you're counting Hughes into that equation) and he had a really good U20 season in Sweden. Only Emil Bemstrom tied Boqvist in points for players aged 20 or younger in the SHL this season, though to be fair Bemstrom did it in 4 less games.
  8. This is PK on an "off" year... As someone who's a fan of having good players on my team, I would love to have PK on the Devils. He would completely change the makeup of our defense.
  9. I'd be shocked if Zegras isn't gone my #10, apparently there's some legitimate talk he could be a target for the Hawks at 3rd. Kid reminds me a lot of Elias with how smart of a player and playmaker he is. 2nd Round I'm not getting married to a lot of players just yet because the late 1st/early 2nd range seems very in flux, but I really have my eye on Jamieson Rees after the U18 he had. Love me some Patrik Puistola as well, both of those guys are forwards though. I'm not a big fan of this year's defense crop, but at 34 you could talk me into Mikko Kokkonen or Anttoni Honka.
  10. Kournianos just posted an article that was originally titled "Why Kaapo Kakko Should Take the No 1 Spot from Jack Hughes," but changed the should to could probably to avoid backlash. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/news/nhl-draft-2019-why-kaapo-kakko-should-take-the-no-1-spot-from-jack-hughes/1qadwcslam6ag19z3026ilst6s I can't tell you how annoying this article is, because there's a few areas that are just blatantly wrong or biased in order to pump up Kakko more. Kourianos is a Rangers fan, and this reads so hard to me as a Rangers fan trying to be like, "Yeauh brah, well we don't care because Kakko is better anyways, brah." He claims Kakko is a better puck handler than Hughes, and I really can't categorize that as anything other than a blatant lie. Ever since Kourianos posted his first article for MSG claiming that Kakko has an Ovechkin-like shot (also a blatant lie), I've started to take his writing less and less seriously because it's so clearly caked in Rangers bias and he's been spreading misinformation to that brainless fan base in order to create this Kakko hype train. It's so unfathomably annoying.
  11. Torts: Hey Korpi, what's with the cake on the bench? Korpisalo: Oh just enjoying a quick snack before practice! Torts: *walks away* *A small hole pops open out of the top of the cake, as Keith Kinkaid climbs out* Kinkaid to Korpisalo: That was close. end scene
  12. This entire USA team might be gone by pick #62 (except the backup goalie, Cam Rowe, who I'm not a big fan of), they're seriously that good this year.
  13. 7 goals and 12 points combined between Hughes and Caufield today, I wish those two could play together forever Also that's the Hughes hatty snipe ^ EDIT: 8 goals, 14 points now. Another nice feed by Hughes to Caufield, 7 points (4G, 3A) apiece for them.
  14. If the kid wasn't 5'6", he'd be in the Top 5 on a lot of people's boards. If you count both his goals for the USDP this year and his goals so far at the U18's, he's scored 62 goals this year. He's a perfect linemate for Jack, all he needs is one or two looks to make a team pay and Jack can just feed him all game. EDIT: Make that 63, lol. All Caufield does is score goals.
  15. Both of Hughes' points today have been gorgeous plays, perfect deflection for his goal and a nice rush turned into an assist
  16. Hughes just picked up an assist on Turcotte's goal, 6-1 USA right now in that game. This hasn't been Jack's best game, but there have still been a few instances where he looks dangerous with his hands and skating.
  17. When the Islanders are bad, they're so remarkably docile I barely remember they play in this area. But, when they're good, I find their fans so incredibly grating and irritating, I really can't find a way to root for them in the playoffs this year.
  18. Also if you have an Athletic sub, this is probably the best read on Hughes written by Corey Pronman. There's plenty of video in there that highlights how good of a skater he is and how creative he is, feel like it's hard not to be sold on him after this article: https://theathletic.com/898571/2019/04/08/pronman-why-jack-hughes-is-an-elite-nhl-prospect/ To be fair, he also wrote an accompanying article on Kakko, but based on what I like in a player, it's impossible for me to pass on Hughes https://theathletic.com/902206/2019/04/08/pronman-why-kaapo-kakko-could-be-considered-with-the-no-1-pick-in-the-nhl-draft/
  19. There was an Athletic article written about what Vancouver could possibly offer up to move up to our pick and the writer threw a segment of it to Twitter, every single offer I saw on there didn't even come close to something I would even consider for a moment: https://theathletic.com/928081/2019/04/16/what-the-canucks-would-have-to-do-to-trade-up-for-jack-hughes-and-the-player-few-in-vancouver-want-to-see-in-the-deal/ (if you have an Athletic sub) The best offer was probably along the lines of 10th Overall, 2020 1st, 2020 2nd, Virtanen, Juolevi, Hutton, Markstrom, and Eriksson for 1st, Schneider, Greene, and a 4th, even that though you're getting a massive handful of maybes for an almost guaranteed star in Hughes. The worst was 10th, Gaudette, Markstrom, Virtanen for 1st, Schneider, Zajac, just so bad. Even that though was only slightly worse than most of what's in that Twitter segment. My god it reminds me of when people thought we could package Gelinas and a 3rd for anything we wanted.
  20. I'd get ready to chalk up another one on that list. Kadri is a bonehead, I could see the Leafs looking to move him if he gets suspended and they lose this series again.
  21. Should you draft large bodies? Yes, if they're as good at hockey as the smaller guys are. Big body is just a tiebreaker for me, no one gets bonus points because they're over 6'2" every time they step on the ice.
  22. The full lottery draw was posted here: Devils won with 2-4-10-12, Rangers 2-5-9-11, Blackhawks 2-3-9-11
  23. He missed 3 games at the World Juniors for I believe a minor wrist injury, still came back from it though and played in a majority of USA's games and was point per game. Other than that he doesn't have any injury history of note, which is good as well.
