  1. The whole size obsession is really quite silly. It’s 2020 ffs. Jack’s brother Quinn might win the Calder this year, and he’s the exact same size (actually Jack might be a hair taller).

I see that we’ll have legit lottery winning odds again this year.  Maybe we’ll actually get a good player this time around.

Like Dahlin or Eichel? Who are on a team we were just AHEAD of in the standings.

Your’e ridiculous. Especially if you truly believe Nico Hischier isn’t a good hockey player.

Blame to go around tonight, but yeah, I’ve never been thrilled with idea of Nas sticking around beyond this season.  His players are definitely not mailing it in, but that’s not enough for me.

Not when there’s proven options out there.

Kevin Rooney can at least play defense and will be on the bench on the power play where he can’t cause it to suck.

Most of the team sucked tonight, but yeah let’s blame one kid.

Kevin Rooney will occasionally score on a break away while coming out of the penalty box.

Great. Kevin Rooney is 26 years old. Jack is 18. Get a grip.

  6. Not scoring on the 5-on-3 cost them this one.

Nice shot by Malkin. Horrible pass by Carrick down the slot.

Should have went the other way with it.

Just a small fast player who has demonstrated he has no hockey sense and will get pushed around to boot.  It sucks that he was supposed to be the franchise savior, but he’s worse than Nail Yakupov.  So it goes.

To even talk about trading him already you lose all credibility.

If he’d buried that breakaway you’d be MIA. As usual when anything goes right.

This guy makes it IMPOSSIBLE for me ever to warm up to him.  Nashville STILL laughing over this one.

At least we can laugh at them hiring Hynes.

There’s no debate here.  The teams that finish with the most points in their conferences are the ones that make the playoffs.  There’s no sympathy berths for teams that get hot at some point in the second half of any given season but still don’t accumulate enough points to qualify...or for teams that are somehow “judged” to be better than some bubble team that earned just enough points to make it in.

The 1999-00 Devils went into the playoff plenty cold...they were coming apart under Ftorek, and after he was canned, they were initially uneven under Robinson as the regular season came to an end.  So it doesn’t really matter how good you are at the end of the season (though obviously it’s preferable to go in strong).  You come up with enough points to get in, you have a chance.  You don’t, too bad.

Anyway, my apologies CD#9, I will keep future posts in this thread relevant to your topic.

Yep. And the Devils team that won 11 in a row to close out the season in 2006, and then swept the Rags in the first round, got bounced in the 2nd. Go figure.

But the guy is playing in his first full NHL season for a team that clearly has defensive issues (not to mention suspect coaching), and he’s playing incredibly well for quite a while...a big key in his team’s turnaround this second half.  It feels like some fans are already started to judge him on too harsh of a curve.

And it does seem like when a goalie gives up a “questionable” goal, fans act like that shot should be stopped every time, though we see soft goals given up by just about every goalie at some point (see Gusev’s goal tonight).  And they don’t take into account all of the incredibly tough saves made on what seemed like sure goals.

Just think he could be cut some slack here and there.

All you guys and your rational calm takes...

just let me vent goddammit lol

So what’s the story with Mermis? Is he actually good?!

Can’t tell if he’s only good in comparison to the rest of our d, or he really is pretty solid.

Yeah, seems that way, but it still has to be almost perfect....almost every shot is off the bar and in.

Yeah, it was a nice shot. Murray gave up the only softie of the game so far.

Of course he's not, but a clear shot in the crease that was screened and post and in doesn't deserve criticism.

I’m not defending Nico, but I’d like Mac to clean up those top shelf goals a bit. Just something I’ve always noticed with him.

I guess the good news is that it's basically only a perfect shot that seems to beat Blackwood lately...

The problem is the book is definitely out on him as far as guys shooting high. Those are usually the only shots that beat him clean.
