How convenient it is to look at stats without context ignoring he was playing hurt for a large chunk of those games.

Yes, he was hurt during some of those games. Did you remove the games he was hurt in to see the effect it had on his numbers? I bet you didn't because it was inconvenient.

My position remains he is a terrible starting goalie. I hope he wins every game along with Vitek.

That’s completely different than what you said initially. You said people were crowning him, nobody was.

Some were praising him as the Devil's goalie.

Except that didn’t happen. He had a good game, people are happy he had a good game and are saying “what if”.

Plus, your take is weird in that you say they are in 6th place in the division, where in reality, point wise you could also say they are tied for second, and the whole fvcking division is nearly equal in the standings.

Sorry for thinking that Mackenzie Blackwood is a terrible goalie.

He has played in 135 games in his career and has won 58. In those 135 games he has allowed almost 3 goals per game. I think that is what GAA 2.93 means. For the 135 games he had a Save % of .907, not very good for a #1 NHL Goalie.

Now this season he has played in 5 games, won 3 and lost 2 and his GAA has improved to 2.81 and he has a Save % of .871 for those 5 games.

Sorry, these are the stats for our #1 goalie.

I have never had any luck making chicken salad out of chicken sh!t.

    Later

  4. WOW, 3-2 and some are ready to crown Mackenzie Blackwood.

Good win today by the Devils and Mackenzie.

The Devils are 12th Overall, 9th in the Conference, 6th in the Division, and NOT in the Wild Card just in case.

I realize it is the excitement of a winning season to date.

  5. It is going to be a long season with Blackwood in goal. Blackwood has shown that he is a terrible goalie. Vitek must show more than what he did in his first game. Fitz was stuck with Blackwood and had one year left of his contract. Fitz hoped for improvement from Blackwood; after all, it is a contract year for him with another team. So acquiring Vitek would give support. That is not the case so far. Come on, Vitek, get yourself together.

    Go Devils

I love it.   Fitz doing an excellent job filling out the roster this offseason.   Hopefully this is finally the year we make a jump towards being a fringe playoff team.

We still have Blackwood as goaltender. Fitz has done a good job with the defense this offseason. I am not convinced the offense is a playoff contender.

    More to come? C'mon Fitz

lets calm down a little bit haha

Lets remember that we almost ALL fully believed Larsson, Urbom, Gelinas, Corrente, Merril, Fayne, Helgeson, Burlon, Scarlett etc etc was going to be the next Stevens Niedermayer Rafalski Daneyko haha

Our D and its future honestly looks real good, but still, let's wait a bit before claiming we'll win a cup with it hahaha

    Very well said. Thabks

FWIW, Blackwood’s had more time for his heel to recover, and according to Fitz is ready and rarin’ to go for the 2022-23 season.  Not going to pretend that I wouldn’t mind someone else being brought in (and Blackwood being moved), but he’s still young and it’s not like he would bring back much at the moment.  I also think the Devils are pretty much committed to a Vanecek/Blackwood tandem, with the games played split simply based on who’s better and more consistently hot.  It’s a big year for both goalies.

I agree with your post but I hate taking the chance that Blackwood can get the job done. He is a big risk if your goal is to be a playoff contender. If your goal is a repeater or habit, then no problem with the Blackwood risk. Just my opinion after watching his performance.

  9. I don't care why Washington traded Vanecek. What matters to me is that the Devils get two goaltenders that will allow the team to contend for the playoffs. So Fitz acquiring Vanecek for very little is great. I am still uncomfortable with Blackwood. He needs to get his heel fixed, and whatever is going on inside his head between his ears. He has a year to go on his contract. Based on his performance the last few years, I don't see the Devils offering him the contract he expects as a FA next season. I don't trust his play, and I don't want to go another season as a non playoff contender. I would hope that Fitz continues looking for another goalie. Cam Talbot may be upset with his new arrangement with Fleury; he thinks he should be a starter. Since he is 35, maybe Fitz might start considering a 2 yr contract for Talbot should he ask out from the Wild, just a thought. I am pleased to see that Fitz understands that the goaltending is essential, as is  defense, two weak links of the Devils.

Well, Sam St. Laurent and Hannu Kamppuri are still not possible to find.

Then I decided to add a half dozen guys who dressed but never left the bench. I got two of those, and still have 4 to go.

Feels like I will never be 100% complete, but I'm already closer than I expected. So I keep looking.

Honestly, its kind of fun to have something you're searching for. There were a couple that I put a lot of effort in on and it was rewarding when I was finally successful.

On top of that, it takes me away from jersey collecting a bit, which is both more expensive and for the most part, more readily available.

I am going to have some time on my hands in the evenings later this week, so I may try to deep-dive a bit more.

     Nice attitude. Good qualities.

We shall see. Barring Bernier being unable to return from injury, I can't see them moving both.

I think that Bernier is done, it is his hip, he is 34, he does have $4.5 M to fight for. Blackwood IMO has a chronic heel problem that could use some more rest; he was forced to play on it last season, probably when he should have been off it. Heels take time to get better, my experience, that's all.

Sorry I haven't been following, how your puck/goalie project are coming along, how is that going?

    Have a nice day.

It’s irrelevant, the question was whether Panarin would walk away from his contract,  the simple fact is that Kovy walked away from more. Whether bad or good for the team, whether they colluded together to get the best result, he still walked away from a sh!t ton of money, and I believe more than Panarin would be.

I agree with you. I personally think they did collud for the best results for everyone. Ít was a ton of money. I just want two sound, fit, goalies for the Devils in the 2022/23 season. I am not counting on Blackwood or Bernier to be in the mix.

Team friendly would be great if he’s staying on the second pairing and getting some kind of help. His offense has been great. He needs help with his decision making for sure but he’s not the kind of player you can just replace.

My worry about him though has been that he’s a prime candidate to get huge offers as a UFA. I’m not sure how team friendly his contract could be if his agent gets him to the open market

I believe he has another year with the Devils. Right-hand shot defensemen are hard to come by. Severson helps with the offense, but he tends to make bad decisions. That is why he is a toss up for me. I have never heard that he said he wanted to remain a Devil. I suspect he will want max money, why not, he knows he is always a risk to be traded. I would trade him. I'll take good defense over his production on offense. The Devils need goaltending and defense first. Then they need some scorers. Just because they have 4 20-goal scorers, you must consider scoring is up this season.

We (I’m a Bengals fan) did the exact same thing to them in week 17. The Chiefs only scored 3 points in the 2nd half of both our matchups with them this season. Major credit has to go to the coaches for making proper halftime adjustments to shut them down. We were only rushing 3 and dropping 8 into coverage for much of the 2nd half. We had a couple coverage sacks late in the game where Mahomes literally had an eternity before our pass rush got to him, but the DB’s did a great job on Tyreek Hill, Kelce, and the rest of the Chiefs playmakers.

It has been a long time for Bengal fans. I wish you and them good luck. I would rather see an AFC team win than NFC. Go Bengals. BTW, I never mention the great job the Bengals did in the second half to shut down the KC Offense. Congrats to the Bengals half time defense adjustment.

A guy hit a parlay yesterday where he picked both winners and the exact scores. Won $529,000 on a $20 bet!

I heard that, great for him. I wasn't even close. I picked KC and the 49ers. Dropped footballs on offense and defense interceptions cost the 49ers. KC offense disappeared right at the start of the second half and stay like that for the 2nd half. Why I have zero ideas, total surprise. I thought for a while it was overconfidence at the beginning of the 2nd half, but after one series of down, it kept repeating.

I won't make a living or supplement my retirement betting on sports. Too emotionally attached to a team. I have been a Patriots fan for 62 years, an original season ticket holder, I will stay the same until my death. I am a Boston fan for all the sports. With hockey, I adopted the NJ Devils when I became a season ticket holder in 1993 because I was living here. I did root for the Giants before we had a football team in the Boston area. Sports are so great IMO and frustrating at times like the Devils have been since Lou Lams stepped down as the boss.
