  1. Waiving both guys keeps their options open. If they can't come to a contract agreement w/ Stralman, then both of them will likely stay on the big club. If they can/do sign Stralman, then one of the two will be sent down. Which one will depend on whether they decide to carry 7 or 8 D-men.
  2. I'm going to assume they'll score at least one goal over the course of an 82 game season. Boulton.
  3. Avery and Betts on waivers? Where's Peter Prucha at right now? And how about Ryan Hollweg? I want to assemble a team of post-lockout Rangers fan favorites. They seem to be going pretty cheaply lately...
  4. Same here. This sucks. (Maryland)
  5. If I have to watch the "Brad Richards comes to New York" commercial one more time, I'm going to puke.
  6. It would be helpful if they included a larger range of incomes in that article. There's a pretty big gap between $75,000 and $1 million, and that's likely where the real inequity lies. Households making $150,000-$200,000 probably have much less investment income than the millionares, and are being the taxed on a much larger portion of their income than the $75,000 household.
  7. Isn't it supposed to be the backup goalie doing the GM stuff?
  8. What's Pat Quinn up to nowadays? Or maybe Mike Keenan wants to get out of the studio for a while? There - now that I've said that, any other name will be a relief.
  9. I get MSG here in Maryland (all hail DirecTV), it just gets blacked out whenever the game gets picked up nationally. The NHL Network is carrying tonight's game, so that's where I have to watch it. And of course they had to pick up the Penguins' feed.
  10. More Penguins announcers awesomeness - apparently the Devils players are "chess pieces without personalities".
  11. +1 I may have to resort to watching hockey on mute...
  12. DirecTV and Center Ice in Maryland - Unless it's a national game (or a Caps game), I always get the Devils feed. And if it's aired in HD (ie. not on MSG+2), I get it in HD. The Versus and Dolan fiascos were a pain in the butt, but it's been perfect ever since.
  13. FROZEN TENNIS COURTS!!! That's where I learned to skate when I was 3-4. Stupid lawyers got involved in the early 90's and now they don't freeze them anymore... I play in a roller league, and play a little bit of pond hockey on those few occasions when it gets cold enough for long enough down here. My wife can skate, and my son is three and we're currently working on it. He got a tiny little pair of Easton hockey skates for Christmas when he was two, and we've been taking him sporadically ever since.
  14. "If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to re-think whether I want to be a part of it."
  15. That's a pretty big assumption. I'm assuming the conversation, if it happened at all, went more along the lines of "Watch yourself out there. We need you on the ice, not in the stands."
  16. Did you even read the post you quoted? Seeing as I said "With the kind of crap Cooke and the other cheap-shot artists on the Pens have been getting away with for the last few years", what makes you think I was just talking about JUST Matt Cooke and JUST that one game? And I also explicitly stated that "What the Islanders did was wrong", so don't think for a minute that I'm justifying it. The Islanders deserved every bit of the fines and suspensions they received, and Haley should have gotten hit with something as well. But Mary-o and his golden children need to learn that we reap what we sow, and they've been getting away with bush league crap all the way back to the lockout. Not just Matt Cooke, but cock-punching Cindy, Colby "Elbows" Armstrong, Jarkko Ruutu, and guys like Max Talbot running goalies three times a game. Stated so much better than I could ever hope to.
  17. With the kind of crap Cooke and the other cheap-shot artists on the Pens have been getting away with for the last few years, it was only a matter of time before somebody went out for revenge. What the Islanders did was wrong, but the "innocent victim" crap Mary-o and the Pens are pulling makes me sick.
  18. I think it would help if the guys without the puck moved occasionally, as well.
  19. If I remember correctly, they said he "threw a check" on Johnson. My wife, who likes hockey but rarely watches it on TV, walked into the room in the middle of the third period, overheard the game for about thirty seconds, and started complaining about how bad they were.
  20. Same here. For all of you that didn't have the pleasure of watching the Pittsburgh feed, did you know: - Max Talbot didn't mean to bump Brodeur either of those two times, and they shouldn't have been penalties - Zharkov intentionally got tripped and slid into Johnson, and should have been called for interference - The Devils don't have room to resign Parise, so they should trade him now to avoid losing him for nothing - For most of his 400+ games with the Devils, Mike Rupp was coached by Jacques Lemaire - Tedenby got his first NHL goal on Monday - Matt Cooke is a smart, hard working player - The Devils and Penguins have been the two best teams in the Atlantic Division since its inception in 1993-1994
  21. I'm going to have to side with Elias. The Devils had a PP late in the Minnesota game, and JL sends out Sestito? I like the guy, and he was having a good game, but on a key PP, why on earth would you send out a 4th liner who I'm sure doesn't even practice the PP? All the effort in the world doesn't help if you don't know where to be and where to go with the puck. As a result, I don't think the PP even registered a shot on goal. If you're going to improvise with the lines to avoid having tired guys on after the PP, switch up the even strength lines for a few shifts.
  22. I'll be at the game tonight, so please at least avoid getting blown out...
  23. I'm not sure where they get these numbers. I got tickets for the Devils game in DC (a Tuesday night game), and the cheapest tickets are upper deck corners for $50. For their home opener against the Devils, the cheapest seats in the whole building were $75. Do they give a pretty hefty discount for season tickets or something?
  24. Forget that, he just needs to be more selective in what jerseys he wears. Maybe the board can take up a collection and buy some jerseys - may I suggest Crosby and Avery first?
  25. I remember a game where Elias put a good, clean hit on Briere, and Briere spent the rest of the shift chasing Elias around and slashing him. Briere's always been a punk and a cheap-shot artist.
