  1. i love the winter classic but it's so moronic for it to be on 1pm new years day, competing with two major bowl games.
  2. milestones aren't nearly as important as records, i don't think it'd be a distraction for the team. everything else at this point is just milestones for marty, except like playoff wins, which unfortunately i don't think he will ever break.
  3. He's not one of the top 4 best backs in the league yet, but I think he's having one of the top 4 SEASONS...which, for all pro, is all that (should) matter
  4. where's crasher now? i'd like to hear more about how a RB who is probably going to break 2000 yards from scrimmage doesn't deserve to be in the pro bowl, even though he got in because of the coaches and players
  5. nothing against Mike personally, I have nothing against any athlete personally; it's the fans that make me hate them. Richter was worshipped in NY the way lundqvist is now, and admittedly richter definitely deserved it more than the Queen
  6. lets try and recall some arguments that were made in favor of mike richter.
  7. didn't catch all 60 minutes but from what i saw, marty was playing amazingly

  10. breaking news: mets sign white dude! in all seriousness though, I'm happy about this...just what our offense needed. now let's get some pitching!
  11. i think we've been spoiled enough over the years to say that any shot that goes in glove side high is a soft goal, but that shot was a laser.
  12. What he said is the exact same thing that any other athlete in his position would say (except for maybe a guy like Jeter or Rivera, where it's clearly obvious they're never going anywhere else). It's unrealistic to expect to hear him say 'I'd never go anywhere else under any circumstances' which seems to be the only response that wouldn't draw panic here. I'd be pretty upset if he ended his career with another team. If he stays he'll go down as (along with Lemieux, and maybe I'm missing a few others) one of the greatest hockey players of all time (hell, of any sport) to stick with one team. Even guys like Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, MJ, etc, played for another team at the end. I think Lou would do whatever it takes to make sure that happened here.
  13. cowboys win! rutgers wins! devils win!
  14. he has 2 on this homestand, no? he used to get a lot earlier in his career, and then went a while with hardly getting any.
  15. We would've gone anywhere between 5-3 and 3-5 in the Big Ten this year. There's the perception that they are miles ahead of the big east, but top to bottom I don't really think that's true. It'd still be great for the program, and I hope it happens.
  16. I agree that the marketing has always been awful. However, again, ticket prices need to be cheaper. The top few rows of the arena should not be more than 10 or 15 bucks. They would get more people, and after concessions I bet they'd make more money.
  17. depends what you mean by strength of fanbase. in terms of smarts/loyalty? yeah, best in the business, IMO. but in terms of size? don't kid yourself into thinking that 'the fans stay home', there just simply aren't a lot. the $15 college seats? those should be $15 every game. the wednesday promotion should be $30 lower bowl seats. there is no way that they wouldn't make more money, even if it was just because of concessions.
  18. sam rosen is the worst commentator in all sports. there's no one else even close to him
  19. what a surprise another great thread by me
  20. half the fun is the atmosphere, especially when the game itself isn't particularly exciting. i don't go out of my way to get any sort of attention, it's just nice watching a game in a lively atmosphere. the good thing was, not a single 'rangers suck' chant! i guess that guy didn't make it, either. and i don't mean to rag on any of you for not making it, I'm sure I'm about average when it comes to number of games attended during a season.
  21. I don't need sabermetrics and 10 pages of analysis to state that it sucks to watch a hockey game if there's not even anyone else in your row.
