jagknife
Holy hell their prices are RIDICULOUS! Cheapest available is $39/gm for a season package. Average price of the lower bowl is $120 Average price of the upper level is $54 [not awful, but still] http://driveto13.com/price.php

Triumph
NHL should be working 24/7 to re-align & schedule this season, not next. It's bogus to keep Wpg. in the Southeast, especially since this was in the works for a couple months now. i don't think there's any choice. they'd have to shift around the entire league schedule, which seems to me to be logistically impossible. The NHL will have an inconvenience for one season. Then, it'll be fun times next summer. [Entirely speculation] Lets say this works out incredibly well, does anyone think we could hear talks of expansion this time next year with re-alignment in mind? I highly doubt the league will bring in 2 new franchises right away, but, we all know Bettman does want 32 teams.

The one's I bought, my first time ever getting seasons, are about 25-28 a game [if I remember correctly]. I'm section 106, 7th row behind the shoots twice net. 44 games @ saving 10-14 per game [vs. WPG] = $440-$616 per seat per year. For some that's not a lot, but to me, that's HUGE. Yeah that'd qualify as huge to me too, wow, I had no idea. Guess they're banking on the 'Canadian environment' or whatever. Then again, they were comparable to the other Canadian teams' ticket prices
jagknife
As you poitned out in the playoff thread, 118, here's some reactions from the players to the move [via Twitter]: Evander Kane: I want to thank all the Thrahsers Fans that supported us in Atlanta for my two years there. Very unfortunate there will be no NHL hockey. Thanks again. I will miss the great people and city of Atlanta. Blake Wheeler: Our time was short Atlanta but thanks to all the fans and their support

jagknife
More Holik: "Initially, I think it was not managed properly, but when they did finally get on the right track as far as management of the team, this ownership completely derailed that effort and the rest is history.”

True, everyone else gets 2 mil too, but it's still nice that it helps the budget. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=6610414 Thats nice that the league is spreading the money out. I honestly thought they were going to use it to cover the Coyotes losses. Congrats to the fans of Winnipeg!
adam85491
http://www.didthethrashersmovetowinnipegyet.com/ By the way, Phoenix isn't gonna move, so I wonder why people like QC is likely to get a team. Florida won't move either, and no one else is even considered to be possibly moving. The only way you see QC get a team is an expansion that brings in two new teams (hello, seattle?). They need to make as much gate revenue as possible to be successful. Winnipeg is tiny and the outside money isn't going to flood in. Their two biggest drivers, early on, at least, will be ticket sales and "swag" when they break out the new logo.

MadDog2020
Congrats to the fans of Winnipeg! Speaking of which, I hope we hear from Annabelle soon. I'm sure she's fired up as hell about this lol. I'm sure our own Travis Zajac is excited that he'll get to play NHL games in front of family and friends too. devlman
This is both really cool and really depressing at the same time. The first thing I did when I heard was go to TSN and read all the celebration. The second thing was to go the Thrashers SBNation blog. Two sides to every story, I guess. It is sad. I wonder if this is going to be the norm in the league now, that if you have a decade of poor management then the team is moving, screw the fans. The League didnt do squat to help find potential owners.

There is a huge difference between this situation and the Phoenix situation. Who is going to buy a franchise where the leaseholder doesn't want them there? I guess thats the reality of it and why a team like the Islanders still plays in its location. But its still sad. The League was all for saving the Canadian teams in the 90's when no one went to games and they were losing loads of cash every year. Same for Chicago Buffalo in the early 2000's. I just think more of an effort to find a group could have been made and better lease negotiations with the leaseholder could have occurred. This whole thing went down in less than two months! The only way the Thrashers could be saved once they were spun off the arena/Hawks was for someone to buy them and build their own building. You'd have to be truly insane to do that. That's the fundamental difference between the Coyotes and the Thrashers, Glendale is outright desperate to keep them there, and it's their building. maxpower
Just curious where you're getting all the lease details and contingencies from? It's common knowledge. Hawks/Thrashers/Phillips Arena are all owned by Atlanta Spirit Group. They spun the Thrashers off. Could still sell the other two, but by not selling them in a group, the Thrashers are behind the 8 ball and can't get a favorable situation, nor would anyone with any common sense invest in them stayin in Atlanta. Someone in the ownership group recently said they'd rather have the Thrashers dates back to book other events in the arena. Which tells you what they think about the franchise and also tells you how willing they would be to negotiate a fair lease for a new owner. Whereas the only party that really wants to keep the Coyotes in Glendale, is Glendale, who owns Jobing.com Arena. Their arena does not book particularly well, and without the Coyotes, they might as well bring in the bulldozers and build a water park or something. So, they continually bend over backwards to keep the team there. The difference is an uncooperative building owner vs. one who just illogically keeps throwing good money after bad. LOLWUT The Quebec Nordiques and the original Winnipeg Jets would like to have a word with you, sir. For that matter, so would the Hartford Whalers. But maxpower's question stands: What was the league supposed to do? Force the ownership to retain the team for another year? Anyone trying to compare Atlanta to Phoenix conveniently leaves out the fact that the two situations are drastically different.
Devil Dan 56
Well, next off season should be very interesting with Phoenix still needing an owner and Glendale desperate to keep them around. Also, the vote for the Islanders arena is August 1st. With no new arena, I doubt they last past their 2015 lease. I really hope the Isles can get their stuff worked out. Those fans have waited a long time and are on the cusp of something good with some of these young players. The league didn't fight much for any of those teams.
