Quinn01
If the Trashers are moving to Winnipeg, what will they be named? I dont think they should take the name of the Jets being that they are now in Arizona. Another name for Winnipeg is "The Peg". What about the Winnipeg Pegs? Back in the AHA they were the Winnipeg Maroons. Anyone else have any ideas about what the name should be of the team? Quinn01
??? Its not official, and we have a thread for the Jets right above this one lol Its going to be announced Tuesday that the team is officially moving. They are working out the details as of now. I know there is another topic but I figured this one would be funny to just make names up of what the team could be. devlman
Its going to be announced either today or tomorrow that the team is officially moving. They are working out the details as of now. I know there is another topic but I figured this one would be funny to just make names up of what the team could be. TSN is reporting that there are still significant issues to be worked out and that its far from certain anything will be announced
CarpathianForest
I think the name should reflect some sort of aspect related to the city. How about the Winnipeg Syringes or the Winnipeg Hot Doses?
ZeroGravityFat
manitoba moose is my guess.

adam85491
manitoba moose is my guess. Well, that would certainly be awkward! Can't imagine having an NHL and AHL team with the same exact name.
ZeroGravityFat
the word is the nhl team will take the name, and i don't know what the ahl will get, winnipeg silly nannies?
Ollie McKraut
manitoba Moose is pretty foolish. almost as bad as Rays. Thunder probably takes the cake though.
CarpathianForest
I read somewhere that if the NHL franchise chooses Manitoba Moose then there's an agreement to relocate the AHL team.
RowdyFan42
Well, that would certainly be awkward! Can't imagine having an NHL and AHL team with the same exact name. Chances are they're going to move the AHL team. So far the rumor mill has mentioned Saskatoon and Thunder Bay. One possibility I've heard is Manitoba Falcons, in honor of the first Canadian team to win Olympic gold.

thefiestygoat
I've heard Moose and Falcons as names being floated around. My personal opinion is that naming the team anything other than the Jets would be a mistake. Those people still wear those colors proudly and chant for the Jets, it wouldn't shock me if they kept doing that whether or not that was the official team name. I could even see a situation where they try to name the team Moose/Falcons and end up changing it a few seasons in back to Jets.
MDPucks
Naming the team "Manitoba" would be a total mistake on a Florida Panthers level. One reason why the Florida Panthers haven't gained national name recognition is that "Florida" isn't as sexy as "Miami" eventhough the team started in Miami and the Panthers (like the Miami Dolphins) currently play closer to Ft. Lauderdale than to South Beach. 99% of the time professional teams' names should be the city-based. Only exceptions to this are examples such as Twin Cities-based teams (because hyphens are worse) and "New Jersey" which has a collection of small cities and suburbia but comprises a distinct area within the greater NYC area. 3/4ths of Manitoba's population resides in or directly around Winnipeg so there's no second city nor is there really a distinct geographical area that's internationally known. My vote is for the Winnipeg Jets or Winnipeg Falcons.

Supposedly, Barry Shenkarow still owns the rights to the Jets name and logo, and will probably ask for a lot more than it's worth. Rumors are also that True North wants it to represent all of Manitoba, making the Falcons thing very likely.

You want slums? Look at Detroit...how's hockey doing there? Winnipeg is brimming with hockey fans unlike the apathetic redneck infested sh!tlanta...which channot be bothered to sell out braves playoff games and already lost the Flames Edited May 21, 2011 by '7'
