Devil Dan 56
There's nothing to see at prospect camp anyway. Its freakin' prospect camp. There's nothing to draw from it other than seeing a bunch of kids scrimmage each other for a week. Some of us NEED the hockey, man!!! Like I said, the Isles and I'm sure some other teams just open up on the final day and let people in for a skills competition and scrimmage. They sell some left over equipment and jerseys, we get our fix until September. It's neat-o. And reveal the secret skills of our prospects to the general public? Are you mad? Hahaha, good point. I wouldn't want anyone prying Darcy Zajac from us. I love and hate Lou at the same times sometimes.
MantaRay
Has anyone discussed the Corvo to Boston & Kaberle & 4th round pick to Carolina transactions?
NJDevs4978
I'm pretty sure there was some of it here, some of it in the Kaberle thread. I thought signing Kaberle for three years and decent money was a good move...until they had to dump Corvo because of it Real camp isn't open to the fans either. SOOO frustrating. That annoys me too...I mean you can always get a look at the prospects by going to a preseason game or making the trek to Albany but it's too bad we never get to see an actual NHL practice anymore
Par9
Regardless if we sign Parise and hire a fitted coach...can the present roster make a deep run against teams like Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Boston?
caron14
Regardless if we sign Parise and hire a fitted coach...can the present roster make a deep run against teams like Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Boston? My answer is yes... I believe in this team and the second half of last year show me so many good things We have a pretty good team... Close to a cup contender... (Need a puck moving D in my mind if larsson cant play in the NHL this year)
Guest BelieveinBrodeur
Regardless if we sign Parise and hire a fitted coach...can the present roster make a deep run against teams like Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Boston? I feel we can yes, we had that stupendous second-half comeback and the main teams that spoiled it seemed to be the ones like Ottawa. We played excellent and tough against teams Boston and Tampa Bay. Look we beat Boston last game of the season and who won the cup? Boston did and we know we are a great challenge to teams like that and can win if we play our hardest. We can be a cup contender IMO. RSC
I think the window of oppurtunity is there. We're a relatively deep team. If one of the young forwards can step up (jos, teds) and one of the young defenseman can play top-4 minutes without much trouble, I think we have a team to be reckoned with. I also think talent is only part of the equation when it comes to playoff time. Was it Marty who said "The best teams make the playoffs, the hottest teams win in the playoffs?". Maybe it wasn't. I heard it somewhere, though, and I think there's a lot of truth to that. I agree that we're a pretty deep team. If Palmieri can keep up with the top-6 potential he showed last year, Josefson and/or Tedenby make huge strides, and Rolston decides to light a fire under his own ass to prove he's still got it in the last year of his contract to potential suitors on July 1, 2012, this team could make a huge run. What I'm scared of is Lou having a bit of the "forget the future, the time is now, win Marty one last Cup" feeling. In other words, sign Parise on a 1 year contract, have him playing a contract year, and then, as many players so often do, have a career season right before unrestricted free agency. I know that seems sort of out there, but it's something to consider. Also, for this team to go far, I feel like Marty can play no more than 55 games in the regular season. Dwayne Roloson, a goaltender at the very least comparable to Marty in age, played 54 games this regular season, then carried Tampa Bay to game 7 of the conference finals. nessus
It was a game that essentially meant nothing to both sides. So whichever way you look at it, just remember the guys weren't playing for much more than having some fun.

MantaRay
Regardless if we sign Parise and hire a fitted coach...can the present roster make a deep run against teams like Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Boston? No. We lack the quality depth and blue line corp to compete at that level. You also forgot about Philly, Washington, Rangers, Montreal, Buffalo which have all improved over the summer. Philly gave up a lot. The Rangers still have big pieces to sign, and Montreal added Cole.
Triumph
Montreal lost Hamrlik and Wisniewski and added Cole. Don't exactly see how they improved. Also LOL at Philly improving. Edited July 12, 2011 by Triumph

Montreal, with an average season from Price, may drop to 9 or 10 in the conference. I just don't see many of their forwards getting any better. I think a lot of folks around here are expecting some sort of continuation of post-Jan 2011 consistent play (plus Parise) for NJ (and are basing predictions on the memory of that streak).... ..... I also think a lot of folks are going to be disappointed when that doesn't happen. Not saying they will be bad - but with a new coach it will take time for them to find themselves again. I don't really think so. Even if the new coach is Therrien, I expect the Devils to roll right out of the gate. Did it take the team a long time to find themselves under Julien, Sutter, and Lemaire? No.
