elias2600
I like our picks so far. Definitely project players, but that's really what we need at this point. We have so much youth in our lineup already, and a few that will be knocking on the door. If any of these prospects work out, it will be a few years down the road (excluding Larsson), and that means we won't be thin on the far again in a few years because of the current youth influx in the team. I am excited about the prospect of Coleman and Boucher. Hopefully Pietila can turn into a hard nosed gritty player.
Quinn01
http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftsearch.htm?year=2011&round=All&position=G&supl=N Hmm St. Louis picked up two goaltenders as did Edmonton.

elias2600
These USA kids are built though. Look at their weights as well. 198, 192, 189 Boucher isn't even 18 yet, he could grow an inch or two. Coleman is likely finished growing though. I don't think 5'11 is all that small for the modern NHL, but that's just my opinion.
thefiestygoat
Last Devils pick at 189th Overall is defenseman Patrick Daly. Minnesota HS defenseman going to Wisconsin.
thefiestygoat
From back in January on Daly. http://noalibisnoregrets.blogspot.com/2011/01/badgers-land-minnesota-prep-defenseman.html According to a press release sent from the school, Daly leads his club in plus/minus with a +27 in only 11 games so far this season. He has 3 goals and 15 points as well. In his career for BSM, Daly has 53 points and is a +112 in 73 games.Daly sounds excited to join the Wisconsin program next season. “I felt the coach staff there is phenomenal and it’s a dream come true to playin the WCHA, especially for a program held in such high esteem." Daly said in a release. The 6'0, 180 lb defenseman joins Jake McCabe and Troy Hesketh as committed defensemen in the 2011 class. Benilde-St. Margaret's head coach loves the way his senior captain gets up and down the ice. "Anyone who sees his game always comments on his skating,” Head coach Ken Pauly said. “He has such high-end skating ability that he really is a great prospect for the future." devlman
Id have to see him play at the NHL level, but at this point I may consider him over Fayne, Salmela. Taormina I think is going to be STRONG for us this season. We didnt really get the chance to see him play last season but from what he did play, I was impressed. Taormina was horrible bro...but we have a lot of options on defense. Edited June 25, 2011 by devlman
iamtheprodigy
Taormina was horrible bro...but we have a lot of options on defense. How the hell was he "horrible"? He was playing 20+ minutes per game as a rookie.
devilsfan26
Anyone know if there was anybody from New Jersey picked this year?
themightyall
Is anyone else worried about forward depth? If we have Tenenby, Josefson and Palmeri in the NHL and Vasyunov leaving, who is left that can step up in the near future? Henrique and Zharkov. Pretty thin list. Quinn01
Taormina was horrible bro...but we have a lot of options on defense. Yeah I disagree. Taormina was solid on d. He has great hands good hockey sense. I really feel that he is the next Scott Niedermayer but thats just my opinion.
devilsfan26
I thought Taormina was okay. He wasn't horrible, but he's not even close to the next Niedermayer.

Quinn01
easy there quinn lol. hes more likely to be ma bergeron than niedermayer, but you can see the skill I have faith in him as a young player. I dont think its fair to judge him off of what we saw which was what? 2 months of play from him before he hurt himself?
iamtheprodigy
easy there quinn lol. hes more likely to be ma bergeron than niedermayer, but you can see the skill He's not Niedermayer but he's already better than MA Bergeron. He was eating up minutes before he got injured and though he might be undersized, he looked steady in the defensive end. To say he was horrible is ridiculous. At worst, he's a solid third pairing guy who might be able to chip in on the PP. But I think he can be more than that. We'll see.

I really feel that he is the next Scott Niedermayer but thats just my opinion. Scott Neids is a generational talent - we'd be lucky if even Larsson comes close to Neids's skill set (and I know AL is a hybrid Dman of Shut Down/PMD) I can't think of any Neidermayers in the NHL right now - maybe Jbou's skating is close, or Nicky L, but they are rare. A guy who played half a season and wasn't a 1st round pick is doubtful - he'd be extremely lucky if his ceiling is Rafalski-esque. Alright Ill give you "Rafalski-esque" but I really think he will be a strong strong dman in a few seasons. If he can put his time in this coming season and do it without any injuries *knock on wood* we will talk this time next year.

He and Kovy worked some pretty nice plays together in those few games. Figure White, Volchenkov, Tallinder and Fayne are locks to make the team. That leaves two spots for Salmela, Larsson, Urbom Taormina and possibly Greene ( if he re signs). A lot to think about

A lot to think about What an underwhelming top 4. We now HAVE Larsson package Fayne, White (or Salvador if healthy) and something else for some real help on the blueline - or make space. Brodeur has 2 years at best left - we can't rush Larsson for that - we need help now.

A lot to think about Well first off, if Greene doesnt resign, I would want Larsson and Taormina up. Forget Salmela and Urbom. Also dont forget Fraser. Salvador also is a huge thing that needs to be addressed. If he returns this season, wont have more then 1 or 2 in him left. I really also like Greene and would hate to see him go, however now with Larsson around, if he is ready to play in the NHL then I wouldnt be to worried if Andy walked. elias2600
I was really more pleasantly surprised by Fayne last season. Not a knock on Taormina, but I Fayne was a standout for me. I hope to see both given every chance at a good amount of NHL minutes this year. It's going to be a battle for those 6 spots Absolute Locks: Volchenkov White Tallinder Should have a spot on the team: Fayne Taormina Will be knocking on the door at camp: Urbom Larsson Big question marks at this point: Salvador (IR) Greene [uFA] Salmela (RFA) Corrente (RFA) Fraser (RFA) Eckford [uFA] New UFA signing? Down the road: Merrill Burlon Gelinas Projects with upside: Sova Noreau Scarlett Daly Any mistakes with this assessment?
