Devils Prospect Camp Scrimmage

He wasn't that bad defensively. He did better defensively than Tallinder did at the same time, or pretty much any of the defenseman not named White. He was only -2 at a time where guys had racked up -10's.

I'm not saying he was good defensively, but overall his passing and skating made his effectiveness positive.

devlman has an irrational hatred of Taormina. He doesn't understand that Tao was playing 21 minutes a night and breaking even on a team that was doing horribly. And he's constantly referring to how bad he was defensively without giving any actual specifics or statistics to support the claim.

Yeah - what I recall was he was playing decent defense. He has the basics down. no one else seemed to. He was a bright spot during a really weird time -- but in my mind that sort of made him -- unremarkable. The fact he was Playing unremarkably made him remarkable and thus it's left a bad memory in my mind. I really wanted to see him the second half -- he seemed weaker as the team started getting better then he was gone.

So it's sort of unfinished business in my mind. What I am saying is your both right. Which puts him back squarely at middling NHL defence - which a good for a rookie. We have yet to see what he can do. My expectations aren't set high for him - but I think that's a good thing.

The arguement always comes down to, 'well he was playing better than the other D-men in those 17 games.' Thats not saying much though, otherwise Kovy would be regarded as the worst player in the NHL. By this logic Tao is one of the best players on our roster. Yet, i dont think he appeared better than anyone else tbh. As for his -2, well i cant explain that other than to say he lucked out and it was a small sample size.

Exactly, and this is the same reason why you shouldn't trash him and say he was "horrible defensively". In a small sample size, he did decent. There's reason to believe that he can make the NHL roster again this fall and play at least decent NHL hockey. I think these are perfectly fair statements.

Oh, no doubt, but the 'he has great potential' stuff is bs. He can make the roster this year but hes gonna have to to beat out alot of players.

The only two things I took out of this prospect game is Larsson's passing/edgework and Taormina's skating doesn't look affected by the injury. Larsson makes a lot of attackers miss due to his elite edgework for a defensmen.

New Jersey once again has a glut of great skating players that don't see the ice or read it particularly well. Gelinas and Urbom....I'm looking at you kid. Scarlett reads the play very well for a 18 year old, he is right handed and he is a good skater. His shot is at the Bantom level though.
