Tri, I think you've been drinking every time you bring up 5/45. So Lou's gonna make Parise the 2nd highest paid player in the NHL based on per-year salary? Just behind Ovy, and ahead of Crosby? Please.

Stamkos' contract ($7.5 mil avg) is a much better indicator of where his contract will wind up.

stamkos didn't have arbitration rights. he sat around waiting for an offer sheet that never came, and signed what the lightning gave him to sign. parise has arbitration rights and he is a year away from UFA. are you honestly saying that parise won't make $9M per in the first five years of whatever contract he signs? because if he's even decent next year (30G 30A) he will get that kind of money. brad richards is getting that kind of money, and he's already 31. parise will be 28.

ilya kovalchuk is making over $50M in the next 5 seasons beyond this one. a player's main consideration is salary, not cap hit, and parise will get that kind of salary. it's a question of whether or not both parise and the devils organization feel comfortable handing out another super long term deal.

He's been a Devil for more than 5 minutes, so either all of his facial hair has been removed or he's dead

Haha, good point.

I agree, I'm not sure where Tri is coming from with 5/45. That would be a crazy high cap hit which I doubt Lou would be very keen on signing.

Negotiations go both ways. If Zach wants to make $50M in the next 5 seasons, he can sign a lifetime contract like Kovalchuk did so that the cap hit remains reasonable.

Thanks you Brian... but congrat Lou for this deal

T.Hunter is really bad no ? (not that we care ... but he will not be in the lineup right ?)

And... It's a question of hours now to see some Parise signing... (right?)

Poor Rolston :(. Fyi Brian, they want your albatross salary, not you

They are getting the better player too. The contract does work better for them as well. I really think both sides feel happy with what they got. Devils got cap relief and a guy who can play RW, who maybe improves in a new environment.

lifetime contracts aren't the panacea they're cracked up to be. many of these deals will blow up. the bruins are lucky that savard's blew up in the right way, with him getting too hurt to play NHL hockey, instead of just him being terrible. having 2 is throwing caution to the winds in several years.

Exactly. They "want" him to reach the floor. It's not like they "value his unique skills and hockey wisdom" or anything. :noclue: I like Rolston as a person and I was happy for him when he started scoring again in the second half of the season, but he was disappointing as a player. Best for everyone to move on.

When I saw Brian's comment about being wanted..

At first I was like..

:saddevil:

...then I was like...

..and then I remembered how awful he was, and was like..

:boogie:

Never hated the player, I hated his contract. Can't blame him for it (would you ever be like, "Hey, listen, I appreciate it, but that's just too much money, thanks"), but still..he was hurting the team more than he was helping

No doubt Rolston is probably better, but iirc, Hunter had a really bad injury last year and can put up respectable 3rd/4th line numbers

So I'm taking it Hunter is ticketed for Albany most likely, correct? Not that it matters, we finally dumped Rolston lmao. I'm happy beyond fvcking words.

I wouldn't be too sure. Hunter is fairly respectable, and he's not too shabby on the penalty kill. Also, if he can get back to the 30-40 points he put up on the Islanders, that's not too bad a deal for $2M. I think we give him a shot to show what he can do.

Good to get rid of Rolston'scontract but don't underestimate the fact that he was adding something to the team last year (the better half)...he is a shot that probably needs to be replaced with some other threat. Of course at least a Parise signing will come out of this. I think Rolston might have a solid year for the Isles and find himself useful in their lineup.

This is a great deal for both teams. The Isles get closer to reaching the salary floor and the Devils get rid of Rolston's crazy contract, while freeing up another $3 million in cap space this season. With this deal, I fully expect to see Parise signed to a long term deal before his arbitration date, as the real impediment has been making sure the team was under the cap this season, since a large chunk of salary comes off the books beginning next year.

Like most people said, I harbor no ill will toward Rolston, but his contract was killing us the past 2 years. Quite frankly, he didn't play up to his wage and needed to go, for the good of this organization's future.

Yeah. We loved him, but we didn't love his cap hit.. He demanded the higher salary and didn't live up to it.. Were we supposed to feel bad for him? No. He was a great guy in the locker room, but didn't live up to the money he thought he was worth
