DevilMinder
Rolston was a team player, even with all the shuffling he had to do because of his salary. I wish him all the best with the Isles. That being said, SWEEET!!!

Triumph
Rolston's problems started from the first minute he got to training camp in 2008. Why did Brent Sutter initially put him at center with Elias and Gionta on his wings? Why was Elias ever moved back to left wing? Who knows. Z-Man
Negotiations go both ways. If Zach wants to make $50M in the next 5 seasons, he can sign a lifetime contract like Kovalchuk did so that the cap hit remains reasonable. +1. If that's what he wants, he's not getting that kind of contract. 10 years, $75 million with $50 million in salary in the first 5 years would be a reasonable cap hit. CarpathianForest
With the exception of being somewhat made of glass, Hunter is actually a pretty solid player.

Pepperkorn
Let the NJDEVS.com wrath begin: Rich Chere Brian Rolston: it's been a rough ride in Jersey. I'm actually happy to go to a place that wants me" 2 minutes ago via Mobile Web Favorite Retweet Reply wrath schmath -- we're happy for him. He was inhumanly positive and hardworking. He really gave his all for NJ. Not his fault he was given a stoopid contract! He did his best to live up to it -- all the more reason we're so happy
Scoopscj
When Rollie and the Isles come to the Rock I will totally cheer him, no boos please. He waived his NTC for the team and for himself and he was always a good Devil. Good Luck Rollie... just not against us please! Scoops

msweet
To get rid of Rolston (and keep Zubrus), lower salary buy $3M, and get a good player in return makes Lou a genius...again

We get a good amount of cap for Zach and ive always thought Hunter was a solid player who can chip in some goals. One of my friends who likes the Isles was pretty high on this guy a couple years back.

CarpathianForest
Hunter is also a RW. So maybe: Parise/Zajac/Tedenby Kovy/Josefson/Palmieri Elias/Zubrus/Hunter Pelley/Steckel/Clarkson

mmajeski06
TGfireandice Tom Gulitti Just talked to Rolston. He said that his no-trade has essentially been waived since December. Rolston said there was some interest in him at trade deadline, but Devils couldn't complete a deal. Rolston said Lamoriello didn't give him a say in where he went, but is happy to go to Isles, he'll have a chance to play on top 2 lines. TheMazz
I must be the only one that doesn't like this trade. Rolston wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made him out to be. Where is Hunter going to start? We already have so many people and I doubt Trent Hunter is going to out preform and out score Rolston. Aside from a salary dump I don't see how this trade favors us at all...
Chuck the Duck
I'm wondering if those old, rickety end boards in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum are going to be able to withstand a season of Rolston "quarterbacking" the Islanders powerplay. I can actually hear Doc yelling, "MISSED THE NET WITH THE SHOT!!" when I think of Rolston winding up from the point.
Amberite
lifetime contracts aren't the panacea they're cracked up to be. many of these deals will blow up. the bruins are lucky that savard's blew up in the right way, with him getting too hurt to play NHL hockey, instead of just him being terrible. having 2 is throwing caution to the winds in several years. I agree, but signing a 5/45 contract is also a pretty bad idea. That's why I think in the end, they'll settle on something in the middle. A contract that takes Parise sometime into his 30s and has a manageable cap hit.

This is purely a salary dump, and a much needed one at that.

Aside from a salary dump I don't see how this trade favors us at all... The salary dump IS the trade. It helps us by allowing us to offer a legitimate contract to Parise. Trent Hunter is the throw-in, if we could have sent Rolston to the Islanders and gotten a bag of pucks in return, we probably would have done it to be rid of his contract. What he added in offense gets replaced by Parise returning an Tedenby/Josefson/Palmieri maturing.
