Islanders New Third Jersey?

Nothing wrong with a 3rd jersey to change things up here and then if it is tastefully done. The NYR liberty 3rd, Toronto 3rd, Chicago 3rd, Pens baby blue 3rd and STL arch logo 3rd were all examples of terrific 3rd jerseys.

Besides, don't be fooled. As we all know, these are primarily done for increased revenue and obviously the Devils aren't interested in that to adopt a jersey more then one game <sarcasm>. Sticking to tradition and such is nice and romantic, but it's time to keep up in this day and age of marketing and revenue streams.

Problem is those are the only third jerseys that look decent. I will admit the Rags third jersey they brought out last year was pretty decent too, but for every good 3rd jersey there is 2 or 3 terrible ones or just copying ideas from others (how many teams used the same diagonal lettering that the rangers use as their third jersey ie: colorado, ottawa, lightning, etc.)

A lot of the third jerseys were and still are going for the "edgy, tough" look but face of the matter is that it seems to be more successful when they do a more retro look. I too wish the Devils would do the christmas tree jersey for about 4-5 games a year, but I will take even one given Lou's history regarding them. Hell I might, just might be interested in a KS Scouts or Rockies night too.

One of the problems with jerseys today is that when there's one good idea, everyone copies it. DM84 mentioned it with the diagonal lettering you see on the Rangers and old Penguins' sweaters getting copied ad nauseum. How about the circular logos with the logos in the middle, city up top and team name down below?

You see a lot of these, especially on blue jerseys.

Now, the Penguins had baby blue roots back in the '70s, IIRC, so they can pull it off. The Blues and BlueJackets can too, for obvious reasons. But the Panthers?

It's the same damn jersey over and over and over and .....

Haha yup pretty much.

Also for the Edge uniforms, I really really do hate those stupid tags on the front with the size. Are they really trying to look like a football jersey or something? There is no reason for it to be there and it is just dumb. Why is this on the replicas and not on the authentics and why do they think adding this would make the replicas better?

I think the idea isn't to make the replicas better, but to make them less appealing compared to the authentics. I heard you can easily take it off though by just ripping the threads.

unknown poster makes a good point about keeping up with modern sources of revenue with regards to third jerseys, but I don't like anything that tampers with the team's identity for the sake of profits. Every time I see a third jersey I just instantly think of it as a lame money-grab, and I can't help but shake my head at teams like the Canucks who change their jerseys seemingly every three years. I'm glad Lou holds the team's identity in such a high regard.

True and I might have to try ripping off the tags with one of my jerseys to see how well it goes. I just find it dumb that there is this tag there to show everyone around what size I wear and that it is a Reebok. I think they already know the answer to both just by looking at me lol.

I too am glad we do not change jerseys often like you said the Canucks and it seems the Sabres and Kings are not far behind when it comes to constantly changing their primar jerseys. It is just a money grab and if they constantly have to change their identity to appeal to fans, it just says something about that organization to me.

Yea I would try to use a razor blade or something to cut the thread, I think if you just pull on it you might damage the jersey.

I like the idea of thirds as well. If they're cool, its another option for looks on the ice and another jersey to add to the closet. I've always wanted the Devils to have a cool 3rd uni and not a throwback, a new design with an appropriate alternate logo and all that. That stuff is fun. It only sucks if it looks like crap.
