could we get one of the Swedes on the board to keep an eye on Collberg and Aberg over in the swedish league? They are ranked #20 and #27 respectively on the early draft rankings (which is in the rank bracket we end up in this year) and they are both very talened RW swedes that I think the Devils, with their habit of taking Swedes lately, might be looking at next summer.

Sebastian Collberg has not impressed me yet.

He has only played one game in the swedish league so far.

He has made four points in six games in Frolunda's junior team.

So I can not say much about Sebastian atm.

But he has been very good in the swedish national team (U18) , 7 points in 5 games.

Pontus Aberg has played really good so far.

He has done 5 points (4 goals) on 7 games.

Pontus has been one of the better players so far in Elitserien.

I am sure that he will play WJC-20 later this winter.

thanks for the updates!

those look like some really nice numbers for SEL which is traditionally tough place to get points as young guys destined for north america.

would you be able to update us on those two every once in while?

WOW, that is an incredible number of shots and percentage of the teams shots in general but, seriously? how do you have that many shots and only get one point out of it?! Good to see he is around the offense though and that he appears to be a large part of the offense on a very good miami of ohio team

NCAA note: Colgate won the Mutual of Omaha Stampede title. Tri-captain, defenseman Corbin McPherson was named tournament MVP.

Thats always nice to see.

He was billed as a late bloomer when he was drafted, lets hope he continues to progress and he can find a servicable role somewhere within the organisation.

There must still be a market for large puck moving defensmen.

Merrill Update:

Sophomore defenseman Jon Merrill is eligible to return to practice this week after he was suspended for a violation of team rules Sept. 24. However, it doesn't sound like he will rejoin the team anytime soon.

"There is a point in the policy where he's allowed anytime after the first two weeks and right now we're debating that," said Berenson.

A 2010 second-round selection of the New Jersey Devils, Merrill was an all-conference second-team selection in 2011 after contributing seven goals and 18 assists with a plus/minus of plus-11.

As his suspension drags on, his potential as a flight risk escalates, but Berenson will not bow to that pressure just to reinstate him.

"I don't worry about it but it's part of the situation," he said. "Any time a kid is suspended or hurt or even benched, he can quit or if he's good enough he can leave and play junior hockey or sign a pro contract.

"Is that a possibility? Yeah. Do I think it will happen? No. But Jon is in a situation he has to get out of.

"We're talking about doing what's best for the kid and what's best for the program. Sometimes they go hand-in-hand and sometimes they don't."

Jeez, didn't Boucher just get a hat trick a couple games ago? This guy has got me excited. Hopefully he grows a bit more.

Correct, this is already his second hat trick. He's been playing with top 2012 prospect, Nail Yakupov for the most part but has scored without him on the line. So far it seems his draft report was right about his natural offensive game. I'd be interested in hearing what scouts had to say about his defense as the season goes along. His +/- will probably be skewed based on the fact he's playing on a great Sarnia team.

EDIT: Highlight video from last night.
