Corbin McPherson signing his ATO was posted in its own thread. He should sign his ELC this summer. Other Albany news and notes, including a look at the 8 injuries the team is dealing with now are at the Times Union site.

Alexander Urbom, out since Feb. 20 with an upper-body injury, practiced today and may be available to face Worcester. The same is true of forward Nathan Perkovich, who suffered a lower-body injury Friday night at Binghamton and missed Albany’s other two weekend games.

Others on the sidelines

D Matt Corrente (lower body, injured Sunday): He is doubtful for Wednesday but could be available for the two-game weekend trip to Norfolk. ”Could he have maybe finished that game? Yeah,” said Kowalsky, “and if he would have, knowing him, the kid he is, he would have fought through it and be worse off. (Trainer) Kevin Morley made a good decision to pull him, even though it was tough to do in a tight game. It may pay off this weekend as opposed to having a setback and being something more.”

C Darcy Zajac (upper body; injured Saturday): He is out indefinitely.

D Dan Kelly (foot; injured Friday): He is in a walking boot and out indefinitely.

RW Mike Sislo (lower body, March 11): “Sislo is coming along but still hasn’t skated,” Kowalsky said.

LW Chad Wiseman (lower body, Feb. 18): “Wiseman is not really making any progress,” Kowalsky said. “That’s the problem there.”

D Mike Banwell (foot, Feb. 20): “Banwell skated,” Kowalsky said. “He may potentially be able to get into practice next week.”

D Jay Leach (lower body, Dec. 16): The former Albany Academy star who has played only 15 games this season — and only two since Nov. 5 — still may return this season. ”He’s skating,” Kowalsky said. “This week, with us traveling and not being around, he may look at practicing with the team next week. It’s been a long time, but we’ll see how it’s going. He’s progressing.”

Pre-game note: Haczyk recalled from Kalamazoo

Haczyk, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound left-hand shot, is a Secaucus, N.J., native who played four years at Niagara University. In 63 games with Kalamazzo, he had 15 goals, 11 assists, a plus-9 rating and 8 penalty minutes.

Albany came up with a huge win against Worcester 6-5 to snap an 8 game losing streak. Scoring for the Devils was Mills (5) (PP, Tedenby and Whitney), (6) (PP, Whitney and Zalewski), Gionta (4) (Mills and Hoeffel), Stoesz (1) (Burlon and Berube), Sestito (8) (PP, Zharkov and Harrold), and Zharkov (Whitney and Anderson). Kinkaid started in net but lasted only 2 periods, saving 14 of 18 shots. Frazee came in for the final period and stopped 9 of 10 shots. Mills and Whitney earned the top two stars. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights.

Albany is now tied for 9th place with Worcester at 67 points, though Worcester has a game in hand. They trail Syracuse by 1 point for the 8th spot.

Their next game is Friday against Norfolk at 7:30.

After today's action, the Albany Devils may only be 4 points behind 8th place Syracuse for the final playoff spot, but they are now in 14th place. They have 9 games remaining but it appears unlikely they will make the playoffs.

Yeah, they're probably done unless they go 8-1 or 9-0. Shame, they were having a decent season. I don't see that much improvement coming next year either - if anything, the team will probably be worse.

Albany defeated Rochester 2-1 with 2 3rd period goals. Scoring for the Devils was Gelinas (16) (Sestito and Anderson) and Zalewski (17). Frazee started in net and made 19 saves on 20 shots in 49:11 until leaving after Kelly's stick knocked his mask off in a collision. Kinkaid stopped all 4 shots he faced. Wohlberg made his professional debut and was a +1 with 2 shots. McPherson already has 3 games under his belt and is -2 with 3 shots and 2 penalty minutes. Zalewski and Gelinas earned the top 2 stars. Here is the gamesheet.

Below are the highlights and lines. In the video you'll see Gelinas' sweet shot, Frazee's injury, and Wohlberg doing nice work down low on the game winning goal.

Sestito-Anderson-Whitney

Tedenby-Zalewski-Zharkov

Hoeffel-Nagy-Perkovich

Urbom-McPherson

Tedenby-Zalewski-Zharkov is probably a pretty nice line.

Also, it appears that Pielmeier is improving his save percentage a lot. I'm not sure how much of this has to do with defense only allowing poor-quality shots, but he seems to be doing quite well.

And just looking at the D: Gelinas and Urbom are probably nearing NHL-ready. Prospects include Merrill and Scarlett who both have been impressive and may be ready in only a couple of years (maybe less?). How will they fit all of these guys in? I wonder if they will end up trading one of the veterans.

Sorry I haven't been in this thread as often as I probably should have been. Fiesty, you've been doing a hell of a job with the updates.

The AHL's Eastern Conference playoff picture is wild. Everyone except Binghamton is still within striking distance of the last few spots. Albany is currently tied for 11th, 4 points back from the 7/8 teams.

Here's how the lower half of the conference looks:

Rank - Team - Pts - GR

6 - CT Whale - 77 - 9

7 - Syracuse - 73 - 8

8 - Manchester - 73 - 7

9 - Adirondack - 70 - 8

10 - Portland - 70 - 8

11 - Albany - 69 - 8

12 - Providence - 69 - 8

13 - Springfield - 68 - 8

14 - Worcester - 67 - 10

Tedenby is on the 3rd line in Albany?

4 goals and 11 assists in 27 GP for Tedenby in the A...not good. But at least he's getting some shots on goal...65 of them. He's still pretty young at 22, but if he doesn't show any progress next season, I'm definitely wondering about his future as an NHLer. At least Josefson's showing signs of being servicable and competent at this point.

Albany defeated Providence 4-3. Scoring for the Devils was Nagy (3) (Urbom and McPherson), Kelly (2) (Gelinas and Zalewski), Gionta (5) (Anderson and Gelinas), and Wohlberg (1) (Mills and Gionta). Wohlberg was also stopped on a penalty shot. Kinkaid stopped 35 of 38 shots and was backed up by Pielmeier with Frazee out with a broken nose. Gionta and Kelly earned the 1st and 3rd stars. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights.

Their next game is Saturday against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 7:00.

Kalamazoo lost to Chicago 4-2: Clermont (3 Saves on 3 Shots in 18:53 of relief).

Note: In Lou We Trust did a fantastic prospect report on Eric Gelinas. I highly suggest checking it out.

As Rowdy noted, the AHL playoff of race is nuts. Here is where they stand after tonight.

7. Syracuse 69 GP 74 Pts

8. Manchester 69 GP 73 Pts

9. Adirondack 69 GP 72 Pts

10. Portland 69 GP 72 Pts

11. Albany 69 GP 71 Pts
