Boring but true, Detroit wins another Cup. They are just too solid even without a true #1 goalie.

Puddy, even though the Devils should be the three seed, Philadelphia is the 3 seed, not 6. Therefore, 1 and 5 and 2 and 3 would play, therefore making a Boston-Ottawa ECF final possible with how I've done it.

Why should the Devils be the #3 seed? I thought there was a POINT system that determined who finished higher? I'm no math genius but 101 is more than 100, correct?

Eztarget, don't get any more defensive, you might hurt yourself.

All I was saying is that the Devils shouldn't have blown that last game against Boston. Not that the Devils deserved the division.

It's confusing enough understanding you Devils fans so be clearer ;)

Right, so:

Eastern Conference

1) Tampa Bay Lightning vs 8) NY Islanders

The Islanders did their standard late season swoon and nearly gave away their playoff spot to the Sabres, who I think would have had a better chance against Tampa. As it stands the Isles will get their standard one win and out like they did last year. Only on Long Island could getting the 8 seed every year been seen as progress. The real question for this series: Who scores more goals, Martin St. Louis or the Islanders?

Tampa in 5

2) Boston Bruins vs 7) Montreal Canadiens

The first rule in playoff predictions is look at the goalie. In this case you have a rookie vs a former Vezina winner. Boston has an allaround better team but with Thorton still questionable and Montreal having the refs on their side I have to with the Canadiens.

Montreal in 6

3) Philadelphia Flyers vs 6) New Jersey Devils

The Devils have the Flyers right where they want them.....in a series with the Devils. Yes, we won the Cup last year but it felt weird without the traditional beating of the Flyers. Even without #4 the Devils set a modern record for goals allowed in a season and have a more balanced attack than they did last year. Philly imported a ton of new players over the course of the season but did not adequately address the cause of their annual exits, goaltending. Last year the Flyers ended a record run where they lost with home ice advantage for 8 consecutive years. It is time for them to start a new streak.

Devils in 6

4) Toronto Maple Leaves vs 5) Ottawa Senators

Some people have said the Flyers have a mental block when it comes to the Devils. That is NOTHING compared to what happens to Ottawa when they play Toronto. As anyone who saw their game last Saturday can attest to the Sens did not show up. With their goaltending situation in flux I don't expect them to show up in this series either.

Toronto in 5

Western Conference

1) Detroit Red Wings vs 8) Nashville Predators

I want to pick Detroit to get upset. I really do. However, I don't think Nashville is the team to get it done. Detroit still has the memory of losing to Anaheim for motivation and they will take it out on the poor unsuspecting Preds.

Detroit in 4

2) San Jose Sharks vs 7) St. Louis Blues

The Sharks get it done with smoke and mirrors. When Nils Ekman (who?) is your second leading scorer, you only win your division because it sucks. St. Louis is the Philly of the west as they also refuse the upgrade between the pipes. However, the Blues have a stable of playoff vets while San Jose relies heavily on untested guys like Jonathan Cheechoo for offense. The Blues have been playing better of late but still nearly choked away a game vs the Blackhawks near the end of the season. That said, St. Louis always gets to the second round and loses there.

St. Louis in 7

3) Vancouver Canucks vs 6) Calgary Flames

Calgary has Iginla and a very hot goalie. Vancouver has Naslund, Jovanovski (the dumbest dman in hockey), and an empty locker with the name 'Bertuzzi' above it. They also have Cloutier who is known to randomly stink. Vancouver did manage to get past Colorado for the three spot despite the lack of Bertuzzi, who was quite awful against Minnesota in the Canuck choke-job last season. I really want to pick against Vancouver, so I will.

Calgary in 7

4) Colorado Avalanche vs 5) Dallas Stars

Remember when the Avs were a lock to win it all? Seems like a long time ago now. Kariya and Selanne have not brought the offense they advertised and Kariya's status is still up in the air. Having Numminen back should be a big help to the Stars who win the goalie war unless Turco goes all Ron Hextall again.

Dallas in 6

Round 2:

East:

Tampa vs Montreal: Even the refs cannot stop Martin St. Louis Tampa in 5

Toronto vs Devils: Devils hold Leaves to five shots this time (one in each game) Devils in 5

West:

Detroit vs St. Louis: St. Louis meet the second round Detroit in 5

Dallas vs Calgary: a defense-fest sure to make ESPN cringe. Dallas in 6

Conference Final:

Tampa vs Devils: Martin St. Louis will learn two things in this series 1) he is only the second best player named Martin in the league and 2) While the refs cannot stop him, Scott Stevens can stop anyone Devils in 6

Detroit vs Dallas: It is waaaay past the Red Wings bed time. Dallas in 7

Stanley Cup Final:

Devils vs Dallas a rematch of 2000. No A-Line this time around, but no matter, the EGG line is rolling and the Devils, when clicking, have the most balanced attack around. Deja vu all over again Devils in 6

Yep.

And I know there's no proof of it here... but I called the Wild over the Avs and Canucks last year in 7. I still want to brag about that. Um... I didn't feel like Nashville could do something like that over the Wings. But I think it'll be a reall close series. I also think San Jose can go really far.

Go Devils,

- Roland

I could've had Leafs in 6 completely right if they would've just finished off Ottawa last night!

I desperately need Montreal and Vancouver to win tonight so I could get those 2 series right. I really fvcked up on the Devils/Isles/Blues predictions.
