Could the Devils afford Doughty, Parise and Kovy

Okay, just for fun, there is a goofball rumor out there that we have a big interest in Doughty. So let's say, for the sake of argument, that we could get him. Does that mean Parise is gone, or is there some way to keep those two AND Kovy without decimating the roster? Some quick calculations (admittedly after a few beers) lend me to believe that's it's highly improbable. However, if there was some way (Marty's expiring contract, a few other terrible contracts running out in the next two years, etc.) that it could work, man, the Devils would be a fun team to watch. Just a thought.

even if we could get Parise, Kovy and Doughty it could be as a rental but all 3 long-term we'd have a pretty sh!tty depth in the team... couldnt resign tedenby, Larsson, Josefson, Henrique after their entry level contract for sure and all upcoming talent like Merril (long shot here).

i'd still like to see it jesus lord

If we were going to go after a defensmen it should have Zach Bogosian. He had one of the flukiest years and with Enstrom and Buff on the team, he wasn't going to get quality PP ice time.

He faced toughest competition on Atlanta.

His linemates sucked

On ice shooting % of 5.91..haha not going to stay there for long.

.911 sv% 5 on 5 was unlucky as well

OZone start of 47% is what you want in a defensmen

His -6.98 CORSI On was poor but remember he had bad linmates and faced toughest competition at the age of 20.

He would have came much much cheaper then Brent Burns or Drew Doughty.

On NJ his CORSI would have spiked, he still would have been facing top competiton and there would be a good chance he takes Larsson's PP time on the first unit....all at the tender age of 21.

Lou doesn't do that though.

I don't know if it's a point of honor or what, but he has never traded someone of value -- EVER. If he wouldn't consider trading him under normal circumstances he won't trade them with UFA status looming.

I guess "of value" is subjective, but he's dealt Arnott, Sykora, Morrison and Guerin when their values were relatively high. He dealt Pepe after he won the Smythe too, but his hand was forced on that one.

I'm sure I'm missing someone else, too.

But yeah, never someone of a Parise, Stevens, Niedermayer, Brodeur, franchise-player caliber.

well Lou dealt Rolston at the peak of his career for Hunter... :whistling:

* boring joke but just to really remember and appreciate that it actually finally happened !

From a cap perspective, sure. Let's say both Doughty and Parise sign for 7m per year. You need to find 8 million somewhere, and they can be found in Salvador (2.9), David Clarkson (2.66) and Brodeur who should logically take a paycut from 5.2. You'd be flirting with the cap but I think it's doable.

Arnott and Sykora all had issues. :saddevil: I was calling for their heads before they left. McKay and Arnott brought Niewendyke and Langenbrunner. they weren't on the verge of UFa anyhow either. The situation wasn't at all similar.

Holik, Niedermayer, Elias, Gomez, Rafalski, Madden, even.... Madden of all people was borderline issue boy I wouldn't have been shocked if just couldn't be traded. ANYHOW -- None of those were traded - they were all "allowed to test the market" I'd wager because they brought no one of comparable value. OBVIOUSLY Lou finds no one of Parise's value. Doughty is not of Parise's value. WHo would be -- Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin maybe... He may not feel it, but Zach is adored in this organization. He is prized above all and you know if he can't feel it -well, you knwo then he'll move on. And If he does it's a communication issue and you know, then it's for the best.

Lou is just impossible for the majority. I'm loyal and you know -- it's easy to make things work. And I have such a HUGE ego I always think I can make things work - that the power rests with me so I could stay. I'd let things get to Langenbrunner levels before I'd move on.

The tricky thing about Zach is the Devils haven't earned his trust any more than he's earned theirs. They need to win a cup together -- then of course, you can't stop at one :uni:
