Derlique
It appears hes unhappy in Columbus, and I think he'd be a fantastic addition. Would you do? Carter for Zubrus (cap purposes) Tedenby, Merrill and Washington's 2nd?

That aside, I do like your proposal, although I wouldn't want to give up on Merrill quite yet.

Yeah me neither, but Columbus really needs defensive help/prospects so I think adding Merrill COULD make it happen
Derlique
Also, it should be noted that Carter can play C/RW so that could fill a huge void
NLinfante
Interesting proposition. Although we'd all like to see Larsson and Merill be the next #4 and #27, a unhappy talent like Carter could be acquired for a reasonable price. I'd hate to give up Zubrus, considering how well he's played with Patty and Petr, but maybe the jackets would accept a prospect/pick deal. SterioDesign
No way. His contract blows. well 5.2m per season for Carter is really not bad if you ask me, you should get at least 30 goals from him if healthy and he has one of the best wrister in the league, also since the Flyers traded him and he clearly didnt like it im sure he'd like to play them 6 times a year to make them pay

Agree with you losing zubs would be a loss and if we were to make a deal prospect and a pick would be best
NLinfante
I dont think that 5.2 M is too too terrible for 65-75 points a year, but it might make things tricky with Kovy and Zach and the cap if you include Carter. Also, I agree with the idea that he might like a fresh start with a team that typically has more success than Columbus AND gets to play Philly often. Triumph
The Blue Jackets just traded the 8th overall pick AND Jakub Voracek to get Jeff Carter. They're going to need about as much to deal him, and New Jersey doesn't have those kinds of assets.
SterioDesign
well i like Zubs too and guys like him in the locker room... but he's 33 and he's not bringing that much production eventho he's helping on the boards and all... Carter is a 26 years old superstar

The problem with Carter isn't the cap hit, it's the length of his contract which takes him through the 2021-2022 season I believe. Kovy's contract is bad enough. There is no way they add this albatros and have any hope of re-signing Parise.
Bibby89
I like that trade actually, no way theyd take a Salvador or something i guess? purely to dump his salary at the end of the year? I'd like to see on our top line for sure, I'd deal with the hit. it would show Parise an effort toward improving too (not that they have to)

We also can't afford him, nor do have to talent to give to Columbus especially after they got fleeced by Philly.

If I were Columbus, I wouldnt consider NJ an ideal trading partner in this case, but we have to remember that a player's "value" is really only equivilent to what a GM can get for him. Just because Carter got traded for a first round pick and a player doesnt mean he's worth that if he has a terrible season in Columbus. If the jackets are unhappy with Carter, they'll have to take whatever they can get for him...or keep him mired in failure.
ghdi
The Jackets are going to want picks and prospects and/or young players. They're not going to want a 33 year old Zubrus. We'd be lucky to get him if we offered a 1st round pick and Adam Henrique as a bidding war will prob emerge for him. We'd probably have to force them to take Zubrus as well just to get his contract off the books to fit Carter and we still have to worry about re-signing Zach. I think Carter would be a great fit here, but we'd have to sacrifice to get him. Edited November 18, 2011 by ghdi

aylbert
If we're honestly looking to trade... Henrique is defintely a showcased talent right now. I don't think Columbus is going to give up on Carter this soon... and if they do, I don't think I want him in our lockerroom despite the obvious hole he fills. He and Richards had lockerroom issues in Philly. And now its not going well in Columbus? I agree, just because Columbus overpaid for Carter; doesn't mean we should. But also, we need to give up solid talent to get him. It's not a Kovy issue where Atlanta dumped Kovy for whatever they could get. Just for sh!ts and giggles: to Devils: Jeff Carter, mid grade prospect to Blue Jackets: Adam Henrique, Jon Merill (maybe we can give up Urboom), Bryce Salvador (salary), 2nd round pick ....but, I still wouldn't want Carter unless I knew more about what is going on with him and teams. DevsMan84
Honestly I was thinking if Parise is going to be traded, he is one of the people on the radar to get in return.

NewarkDevil5
lou would never trade for a disgruntled guy. besides the proposition slaughters out prospect pool. Um, when Lou traded for Alex Mogilny he was considered a disgruntled player. When he traded for Kovalchuk it was after he'd made it clear he wasn't going to stick around in Atlanta. Deron Quint was a disgruntled player (also wound up being a failure over here, but we still traded for him). Jason Arnott was a disgruntled player in Edmonton when we got him. I could go on... Pepperkorn
I would definitely send them Scottie Hartnell's wife. I'd sneak behind the bench and clip his hair and send that to Columbus for Carter. Wife shmife the value is in the curls...matted though they may be.
