EQF Game 3 - Playoff GDT: Florida Panthers @ New Jersey Devils

Yep, we've said that before. I know these mental midgits all too well. You can bet they've been demoralized and will probably lose in 5 now. They're an easy team to play against, and they have no intestinal fortitude.

Ya, it's real easy to play against a team that goes up 3-0.

This narrative is so tiresome. The goaltending sucked and Florida got 2 seeing eye goals - goals that went through two players and the goalie as if by magic. The team didn't play well after them. That's unfortunate. But they still had their chances to score, and at least Florida didn't have too many. If they can get the bounces in Game 4, going back to Florida 2-2 isn't the worst thing to ever happen.

Also: Anyone of you guys who has tried to pretend you know something special about the game and that there is no such thing as a team that plays solid throughout the game can no longer speak when it comes to that. It is beyond clear that I and others were right and this team has a SEVERE inconsistent play problem that takes place within the course of a game. It has happened over and over again and of course everyone denied it and now it haunts us when it matters.

While I don't think I know something special about the game I am sure as hell one of those guys that sat there and had to remind you that no team in this league can play solid through out every single game. And in case you need another reminder look at the Penguins, Redwings, Canucks all of whom "play more consistent hockey" then us and yet find themselves in much more dire circumstances.

You aren't some omniscient hockey genius because you pointed out that we don't play complete games, you are stating the obvious that can be said about every single team. Tonight's result is because the better team won. period.

I think the team takes far too long to take shots. They wait for the perfect screen to setup before releasing the puck. However, this gives the panthers more time to block shots. I'd like to see more snap wristers, more one timers. Less waiting for the perfect shot.

Were just not intense and playing playoffs hockey...

Sad to say and im gonna be harsh with my choice of example... But ANY dman from the rangers would have dove or try to get his body in front of that puck before bergenheim can get a good shot... Volchenkov was warching and by the time he see that there eas a guy coming on the wing it was too late and he didnt try his best to prevent a shot like he usually can

Thats the story of the game...last goal on brodeur AS USUAL all the guys were stuck in the same corner... Puck came out to the poiint...then to the other side and the dman had all the time in the world to walk in and take his shot while ALL our guys were still coming back from the corner...

No, they'll win Game 5 just to annoy us when they get eliminated at home again in Game 6.

The bold is what is true and that's it. Our play is much more inconsistent and I've demonstrated that with numbers - it wasn't rocket science - it was something anyone could look up and figure out. What's happening to the Pens now is not something that they have faced a lot. I am not claiming to know anything but what is obvious - that we have a serious issue playing a full hockey game.

No one plays well every minute of a game but there are teams that play well in general throughout 60 minutes. We have consistently blown leads and had terrible periods follow great periods. It is weird, obvious and unacceptable.

No, it's not much more inconsistent, and what you were doing was not rocket science.

There are teams that play well in general throughout 60 minutes, they're called the best teams in the league. The point is that in general their 'poor' play is better. The Devils are an average team, and as such, they're bound to play poorly at times and well at other times. The Devils generally crushed the Panthers at even strength over the first 2 games. Last night, the Devils had a weak game 5 on 5, but not so weak that it should have cost them the game.

But as I've said, I don't think the Devils' poor play contributed to the goals against in a significant way. The poor play is more upsetting on the offensive side of the puck after the Panthers finally went ahead.

Like I said - I didn't come up with anything special.

Agree 100 percent. The reason we are inconsistent is because we are an average to good team. However, we have a huge regular season disparity in goals from period to period but that's irrelevant right now. The point is that it is very weird that we can play so well at one moment and be so poor at the next. Its not an analysis its just what I and most other fans can clearly see.

But as I've said, I don't think the Devils' poor play contributed to the goals against in a significant way. The poor play is more upsetting on the offensive side of the puck after the Panthers finally went ahead.

I would agree with this for tonight - defensively they didn't really do much wrong to allow those goals.

And 2 of those teams that play well in general and were cup favorites coming in are down 3-0 right now so what does that tell you about how much it means to play more consistently over 60 minutes during the regular season? Also according to your thread we were awesome in the second period and terrible in the third but the exact opposite has been true for this series thus far.

We have blown leads, we don't do it consistently, just like every other team, and certainly inline for team that finished 6th in the conference.

I don't claim you lose more games if you blow more leads then losing straight up. Nor do I deny what you say about VAN and PIT. But for us it followed us into the playoffs. And I m not trying to blame our losing on it, like I said before just pointing out that it is frustrating and that it does happen to us. We definitely allow teams to climb back into games more frequently then most playoff teams. That has always been my point.

Zach looks totally uninterested. Second game in a row he misses an open net to tie the game. He got a goal, sure, ok,, great. He isn't playing with any heart, though. He looks lost and that seems to be his trend once the playoffs come around. IF we lose him in the off season, I won't be as upset as I thought I would be.

I Went to sleep at 3-0 , and i thought to myself, wheni wake up in the morning we will have lost this game 4-3.

And I was right.

We still don’t have the game changing talent at the back end of this team to make a push in the playoffs.

That being said, this team is more than capable of beating the Panthers, unfortunately they seem to have become preoccupied with beating themselves. They are overthinking this. DeBoer needs to calm them down before Thursday.

If you had said to me the PK unit would have been this bad i would have laughed.

Also quote from TG on fire & Ice:

I thought I also should mention the sellout crowd tonight was one of the best I can remember for playoff game at Prudential Center (where the Devils are 3-8 in the postseason now).

It was loud from the start and the game night staff did a great job with the pregame video of past Devils’ playoff highlights. There were too many other topics to talk about afterward, but if the outcome would have been different I think there would have been a lot of talk in the locker room about the crowd.

Good to hear.

I think you are talking about Kovalchuk. not parise.

I agree with this, we need to UP our intensity and toughness... its the freaking playoffs

Last night sucked. No other way to put it.

All I'm going to say about this series is that it isn't over. Sadly, many are posting here as if it is, or as though the Devils might as well forfeit the rest of the series, to stave off the "inevitable".

I can't just bail on this team like that. Yeah, I'm plenty pissed, last night was pretty God-awful, and my memory is long enough that I can't just destroy Marty and forget everything that came before, but damn...I'm still stunned how last night came apart the way it did. But Florida still has to win two more games. Before I leave the Devils completely for dead, I have to see Florida actually pull that feat off. After a game like last night's, that might seem like a gimme now, but it isn't. If the Devils win tomorrow night, the series is tied, just like that. Then we'll see.

The Devils have looked bad at times this season, but their greatest strength has been keeping the skids to a minimum, all things considered...so I'm going to hang my hat on that, and hope Game 4 sees them snap out of it.

Kovy and a few other did that this game. Instead of firing a cannon when the pass gets to them they hold it for a couple of seconds. I don't know if it's the "perfect screen" they're looking for, or someone to pass to, but they take long enough that the Panthers defense gets back in position. The whole point of passing it around or cycling it is to draw a defender out of position then make him pay for it. JUST GO BOMBS AWAY!

And btw lol at Zach saying the PK was fine. Yeah, real great - killing off a 0% on three chances. The next question from Stan and the other idiot reporters there should have been about Marty, and Zach's answer might have been interesting. Because there's no other way humanly possible the PK could be 0-3 and 'fine'

Ya think? When a scrub d-man like Harrold makes five moves in front like he's Gretzky when he already has an open chance in the slot, and holds the puck long enough for the play to die that was, amusing and annoying at the same time.
