The Evolution of the Devils

Recommended Posts

Hey all, haven't brought up Holik and I's site in a while, but wanted to post part of this column here. Feedback away if you'd like. Bobby and I are doing a podcast Friday.

The Devils victory over the Flyers was a great team effort, and as history has shown us, there’s no other way for the Devils to succeed. The series marked a significant milestone in the evolution of the franchise that started a few years ago.

We all remember the disastrous start to Coach John MacLean’s Devils last season, and the turnaround started when Jaques Lemaire was brought back to stabilize the team. Jaques has done so much for several generations of players, and did it again in righting the Devils’ ship.

Over the summer, when Lou brought on Pete DeBoer, I questioned it. My mistake. I admit I didn’t know enough about Pete, and what he has done for this team has been tremendous.

The Devils had a very good season and ended up going into the playoffs with the right momentum. In the league with so much parity, good timing and momentum are playing much bigger roles in any team success than ever before.
