Updated, 12:45 p.m.:

Defenseman Roman Hamrlik’s Capitals tenure has come to an end, with the New York Rangers claiming the veteran off waivers Wednesday.

The 38-year-old Hamrlik had been a healthy scratch in 17 of the Capitals’ 21 games this season, the last in a two-year, $7 million contract. After Washington placed him on waivers Tuesday, other teams had until noon Wednesday to claim him and take on the remainder of his salary.

I guess Staal will be out a while?

The media reported that NYR had decided to claim him before last nights game.

But I would think Staal would be out at least a week to get the swelling down, and see if it did cause any further ( Broken something / concision / nerve damage )

if staal's injury is anything like white's, his career is essentially over.

Because that didn't happen to White 6 years ago and he didn't just retire having made another $16M with two teams over the 5 years preceding his retirement?

White wasn't the same after that, but he had some solid years after he adjusted to the eye.
