Devil Dan 56
@Real_ESPNLeBrun 3m Nathan Horton visiting an NHL team/city today. He'll end up with a non-traditional hockey market I think. Wants quieter life New Jersey is a quiet life right? How was Horton with Deboer? I thought they had problems, but I don't remember anything specific. SterioDesign
Dreger juste tweeted this about Alfie Alfie scenario: CBA allows for teams to spend over the cap on 35+ players using the bonus cushion. However, the overage is deducted next yr. but the thing is... what is that new rule? you guys think maybe Lou is trying that with Elias to maybe get more space for free agents. (lets say we could actually spend to the cap)
SterioDesign
i really just have a feeling that Brière will end up here... and then when that happen im not gonna be sure if im happy about it or not... its really gonna be a wait and see in a few months
gardenstatepkwy
Safe to assume Briere and Clarkson are connected? If Clarkson ends up signing with NJ can NJ also afford Briere?
CarpathianForest
After reading more I'd be sold on us getting Brad Boyes to replace Clarkson. He's fallen a bit, but he put up really good numbers with STL. He's a right wing and is only 31. 3 year deal at about 6mil won't break the bank. MantaRay
I like Horton, but I feel he is Marc Savard like damaged, where one big hit is going to cause all sorts of problems.
MantaRay
also reported that Thomas would like to play for the Flyers? That is desperate agent speak. In reality, Thomas would like to play for anyone, but I don't think many GM's want him and his tin foil hat. I could see an ECHL team signing him for publicity, but his days in the NHL are done. He is too mentally unstable.

Horton's not coming here because of DeBoer. All of my research(edit:guessing) indicates Boyes and Briere are our best bets.

Short term (let them prove their worth.) I think Briere might sign with us because of the proximity to Philly.
JakeDev
@StapeNewsday42m Devils are among Briere's finalists, same source says.
Triumph
35+ bonuses only work on one year contracts, not likely an option for Elias

ghdi
We know better than to trust Twitter rumormongers don't we? C'mon now. Trust? Its a basis for discussion on a potential contract. Does everything have to be black and white/confirmed for discussion?
Triumph
Trust? Its a basis for discussion on a potential contract. Does everything have to be black and white/confirmed for discussion? Yes? I mean - you could just ask the question yourself - what do you think the Devils would/could/should pay Briere if they got him, rather then rely on this guy, who almost certainly has no sources whatsoever. Then you've got people saying 'Ooh, we're gonna get Briere at that price?' etc. It lends the discussion an air of certainty it shouldn't have. I mean like I've been saying, it will be years over dollars for a lot of these guys, so that's not totally unreasonable, but it seems pretty unlikely.
