He was physical, he was smart and I really liked his decisions with the puck today. He’s a better skater than he’s been given credit for and does a nice job of getting the puck out of trouble.Stefan Matteau — I’ve liked the way Matteau has played throughout the tournament, though he has taken a few too many penalties. The one against him today was a soft call, but unfortunately that’s how it can go some times. Matteau’s size and speed was a factor a lot today and he plays hard every game. He was a big part of making that team so good in the first period with the way he was driving the net and making plays in the offensive zone physically. thefiestygoat
I'm waiting for the day that someone doesn't have something good to say about Santini. It seems he never has an off day from what I've seen. Great pick by Conte and the scouting team. Still wish the Devils kept that earlier second rounder? I know some people wanted the Devils to take Dauphin instead of moving back to grab Santini and gain the pick to get Kujawinski but I loved the deal at the time, and love it even more now. Like you said, Santini seems to get positive reviews from everywhere. I wouldn't be shocked if he and Severson moved quickly into the NHL post college and juniors respectively. Potentially having Larsson, Merrill, Severson, Santini, and Gelinas as the anchors on the blue line in a few years is intriguing. Plus guys like Helgeson, Hrabarenka, Scarlett, and Gedig could be useful role pieces. Definitely gives Lou the option to either have a cheap young D group so he can spend money on forwards or the option to make a trade for a decent, young forward with one of the young D getting moved out. Devils prospect pool as a whole may be underwhelming due to the forwards dragging it down but these defensemen really give me hope for the future. Also to get back to Kujawinski. He's been inconsistent (again) this year but he definitely seems to have the tools to develop into a NHL player. Dauphin is the superior prospect without a doubt but it's not like their basic stat lines are that different. Dauphin: 33 GP 15-16-31, -6, 31 PIM in the Q Kujawinski: 30 GP 16-11-27, E, 27 PIM in the O You could probably say that Dauphin is playing on a worse team but Kujawinski the tougher competition. Colorado Rockies 1976
Great offensive numbers for Bell, but considering that he's an overage junior player, I'm assuming there's not really much to take from this hot spell he's on? He plays the point on the PP. Guy who does PBP for Kelowna said this on twitter today: Regan Bartel @Reganrant 4h @onepasthunter @TStivali He is indeed at blue line. His shot - particularly his wrist/snap shot - is best I have ever seen at this level.

Devs3cups
Just a question for the posters who know more about our prospects : Do you guys think Mike Hoeffel has a good chance of playing in the NHL with the devils? I didn't remember him playing for the US in the WJC, and he had pretty good stats in the NCAA. Do you think he'll be on the devils roster someday? I didn't remember him playing for the US in the WJC, and he had pretty good stats in the NCAA. Do you think he'll be on the devils roster someday? I doubt it since he hasn't really put up points at all at the AHL level and guys like Matteau and Boucher have passed him on the depth chart at LW. I've read he's always been more of a defensive forward but 0.22 points per game at the AHL level is pretty low. Even Stephen Gionta had a better rate. thefiestygoat
Monday 1/6KHLDinamo Minsk lost to Medvescak 4-1Artur Gavrus F: E, 2 Shots, 10:22 TOISeason: 23 GP 1-2-3, -2, 8 PIM, 3.3 SH%, 1.3 SH/GP, 45.5 FO%, 11:50 TOI/GP With the KHL taking an even longer break than the NHL for the Olympics, I wonder if Gavrus is considering a move so he can get some game time rather than just practice for a month. Dinamo Minsk is one of the worst teams in the KHL and only plays 4 regular season games after the Olympic break. Then they head to the Nadezhda Cup which is the tournament for KHL teams not in the playoffs. Realistically after January, he's looking at 4-7 games at best probably before his season would end in March. He played last year for Neman Grodno in the BXL (Belarus Extraliga) but they are nearly done with their season and only play 6 games in February so a return there doesn't seem like an option. I suppose Dinamo Minsk could assign him to their MHL (major junior in Russia) affiliate, Dinamo-Shinnik, who will have 10 February games before their playoffs. Perhaps he could return to the OHL again where Oshawa has an open import spot for him and they play 13 games in February, 6 in March, and should have a decent playoff run as they are 1st in the Eastern Conference right now. I don't know if they would be interested in adding him though. If he doesn't move anywhere and his season ends in March, then he wouldn't be back in action until May for the World Hockey Championship, hosted in Minsk. thefiestygoat
Could Myles Bell be turning in to a true power forward? Or is he still just a big dude with a big shot ex-Defenseman? http://www.hockeyfights.com/news/193713 I know he has his flaws in his game and is putting up huge numbers as an overager but it's certainly encouraging. I'm still not that high on him but that shot and his goals per game ratio is awesome. Over the past 2 years (age 19 + 20) in 107 games he has a .58 goals per game ratio. Regan Bartel (Kelowna's PBP announcer) has a great blog following the Rockets. I thought this tidbit was interesting the other day. I had to chuckle last week when guest coach Cam Paddock watched with amazement at practice as Myles Bell was shooting the puck. “I’ve never seen someone in junior shoot that hard, and that accurate”, Paddock said. The 30 year-old spent over 300 games with the WHL, 16 games in the NHL and hundreds of games in AHL and Europe, so he has a pretty good grasp of who has a heavy shot and who doesn’t. Paddock has seen many teammates shoot the puck, but not like Bell. Interesting: re: Anthony...his numbers are now a good bit better than Steeves' (3.24 GAA, .878 save%). Anthony also hasn't given up any goals in his last three appearances (2 in relief before his shutout). Maybe he gets a chance to get a string of starts. Steeves has been rocky lately and Brodeur has been doing well in relief and now with the shutout so it definitely seems like this is his chance to steal the job. The Q trade deadline just passed and Gatineau tried to upgrade the goaltending but felt the price was too high. Hopefully he can keep playing well. Definitely an offensively minded player who shifted from center to wing and back as the game progressed. Lacks size and will need to add muscle but has good vision and reads the play well. Finds open space without the puck and looks to pass first with the puck. Appeared to be a good, fast skater, especially when he hit his stride, which seems to be something he improved on since being drafted. Showed good hands and decision making in space but will need to get better along the boards and against physical D. Played on the top PP unit on the half boards which suited his skill set well. Has the offensive tools, will be interesting to see if he can put it all together over the next few years.

thefiestygoat
Hard to get updates on Miles Wood because the prep league he plays charges $150 to get stats which is ridiculous when the stats for the schools out in Minnesota are free. Apparently entering 2014 he had 17 points in 10 games. He's up to 13 games played now.
