GoArmySports 61 Posted January 31, 2014 If Gelinas misses the final four games before the Olympics I'm pretty sure that makes him eligible to play in the AHL during the break.
Mike Brown 162 Posted January 31, 2014 Zubie's injury might be pretty serious.
'7' 901 Posted January 31, 2014 He's been atrocious defensively so I can't argue with this. Writing was on the wall. Of course Salvador has been crap too (and offers nothing offensively) but he doesn't have to be accountable for his play.
MadDog2020 3,521 Posted January 31, 2014 @TGfireandice: Lamoriello said he will double check on Gelinas' AHL eligibility for Olympic break. You'd think Lou would've checked on that BEFORE sending him down...

dmann422 123 Posted January 31, 2014 Good. I'm assuming he can play during the beak although maybe some time off could help him.People need to realize that if we went with 6 d, gelinas in the lineup equals more Salvador 5v5 toi.
Mike Brown 162 Posted January 31, 2014 I want Adam Larsson. Why Sislo?

DevsMan84 889 Posted January 31, 2014 Of course the masses of Devils fans on FB are whining about Gelinas going down. They actually believe that he is better than Merrill.
Mike Brown 162 Posted January 31, 2014 Of course the masses of Devils fans on FB are whining about Gelinas going down. They actually believe that he is better than Merrill. We need Gelinas more than we need Merrill. That's for sure.
DevsMan84 889 Posted January 31, 2014 We need Gelinas more than we need Merrill. That's for sure. That's nonsense. For every goal he scores because of his shot, we get 2 goals against due to his bonehead plays.
DJ Eco 219 Posted January 31, 2014 That's nonsense. For every goal he scores because of his shot, we get 2 goals against due to his bonehead plays. And then there's Salvador, for every goal he doesn't score, there's 2-3 goals per game he's responsible for the opposition team scoring on us. I do agree though, it's not a Gelinas/Salvador debate. My ideal condition would be for Larsson to come back up and take Sal's spot. Sal's looked like a bigger liability than 2011 Tedenby on a penalty kill. Mike Brown 162 Posted January 31, 2014 That's nonsense. For every goal he scores because of his shot, we get 2 goals against due to his bonehead plays. This isn't true and the numbers back this up. Merrill makes just as many boneheaded plays as Gelinas.
dmann422 123 Posted January 31, 2014 We need Gelinas more than we need Merrill. That's for sure. this is debatable at best. Special teams will not make or break this team, but lack of defense will. Gelinas' production 5v5 does not warrant his play there, and he cannot be used in the pk.As I said in the other thread if you want to use 7d and have gelinas as the pp specialist that's fine, but for all the whining people do here about not letting our guys develop properly, playing gelinas as a pp specialist will hurt his development. It's better he go to Albany where he can get 20 mins a night and work on things in all situations.

Like I said, I need proof Merrill has been SIGNIFICANTLY better. Not just better, but he needs to blow Gelinas away defensively for this move to not hurt the team. I agree that we shouldn't use Gelinas as a PP specialist. That's why he should get the 15-20 minutes of ice he was getting.
Jerzey 265 Posted January 31, 2014 Zidlicky needs more criticism for him mistakes and bad penalties. He's makes some sweet moves and has a great offensive upside but man does he take bad penalties at the worst times. Plus he makes some bad plays sometimes. I just think Gelinas could do no worse than Zids but I guess there's no point in having them both in the line up.

Our PP is effective because we have 2 units on it capable of scoring. PP depth is what makes our PP good.

ATLL765 79 Posted January 31, 2014 This isn't true and the numbers back this up. Merrill makes just as many boneheaded plays as Gelinas. There were a few times over the last few games where Gelinas pinched in or tried to stand up in the neutral zone only to get beat and gift the other team a 2 on 1. I think he did it twice in the Ranger game. He looked bad.
thefiestygoat 136 Posted January 31, 2014 I have no problem with Gelinas going down. Merrill has had his share of mistakes but has been solid more often than not. His 2 way game is pretty valuable.I like Sislo and have no problem with him getting into the line up if Zubrus is hurt. I do wonder how that must feel for Josefson and Loktionov to be the extra forwards and constantly get minor league call ups passing over you when injuries occur though. Is Loki signed for just 1 year or more and didn't Larionov had to convince him to stay as he was ready to jump to the KHL? If so, then I guess we can kiss him goodbye after this treatment of him. He turned down a $3M offer last summer to play in the KHL to play for the Devils for $725k this year.

Yeah I think Igor convinced him that he should stay in the NHL for lower pay because there is more opportunity here. lol good knowing you Andrei.
