Ike is 2-for-2 with a walk already for his new team.  But nope, gotta see the awesomeness that is Lucas Duda.  Outstanding.

I think that ball went off Freemans foot. If it didn't it would go down the right field line, instead it meekly went to the right of Colon. Very likely it hit his foot but of course against the Mets that will never go our way. Still doesn't excuse Colon on the idiotic throw.

Granderson is very painful to watch now.

Also I don't know why Duda was going on contact earlier in the game when he was on 3rd with 0 out. Guy is clocked with a sundial, why go when the ball is hit to Simmons? Mets stupid yet again

Also Ike Davis 2-2 with a walk today.

Ruben Tejada really not endearing himself today. Doesn't take 2nd on the wild pitch earlier, then meekly grounds out to end the threat in the 8th.

thought Duda got all of it. Stupid Mo's zone (whatever is left of it)

I think it may be time for Valverde to call it a career. 90-91 mph fastballs...he's just got nothing left. Almost blew it in Atlanta to Heyward. Did blow the save to Ibanez. Two more home runs to the D-backs and then this meatball to Upton.

He's done. Cut him.

Valverde has given up 10 homeruns in his last 27 IP dating back to last season.

Like I've been saying even when he was going good -- he sucks. But this is what happens when you ignore holes. Get a real 1B? Nah. How about a SS? Why bother. Help the bullpen, maybe a little? Nope.

Wow, Mets actually loaded them up and got to within 7-5 in the bottom of the 9th

though, of course we know what the result was, but they did rally.

Maybe try Germen as closer? Sure as hell isn't Valverde anymore...

Also GranderBay needs to be in the 6 hole. Batting him 4th is killing us.

You know Farnsworth's the next guy up...gotta go with bad experience over any kind of unknown :P

Good call -- TC announces Farnsworth as closer.

This will likely go just as bad as Valverde did. Torres or Germen should get it.

It's even more moronic they're hitting Granderson second and Murphy cleanup.  Why not just leave Murphy at 2 and go Duda cleanup and Granderson 6 if you're that worried about the L-R order split?

They really have nowhere else to go if (when?) Farnsworth bombs, unless they sign another retread like Joel Hanrahan or whomever's still on the market because the stink as bad as the guys we're rostering.

Torres has been a pretty great reliever since he was brought up last season: 46.1 IP, 4.11 K/BB, 1.55 ERA, 3.16 FIP. Germen has also shown some promise (career 22.5 K%, 2.99 FIP). They are easily the best in-house candidates to close once Farnsworth implodes. They've been snooping around Hanrahan, so he's another option. He's probably worse than Carlos Torres honestly, but signing him at least moves everyone down the pecking order.

Joel Sherman says Mets expect to bring up Bobby Abreu this week. Makes sense -- he has a late-April opt out and the Ike trade opened a roster spot for him. Have to imagine Kirk gets sent down. I think the only reason he was brought up over Abreu in the first place was because he was on the 40-man and could cover CF until Young returned; but now Young is back and the Ike deal opens a 40-man spot for Abreu.

By the way, as if EY wasn't awful enough at the plate, he's decided to add tons of strikeouts to his game this year. Fangraphs has batter strikeout rate stabilizing very quickly at 60 PA. EY is at 75 PA with a 29.3 K%. Awful. To some fans I know it looks like he's playing well (.361 OBP, 10-for-11 in stolen bases), but the sh!t is going to REALLY hit the fan once his BABIP (currently .368) and walk rate fall back to career norms.
