2015 Draft Thread

Why is everyone so high on Barzal? I mean, people are talking about Zacha and how his stats aren't impressive, but I don't think Barzal's stats are impressive at all... I feel like Zacha is a better offensive threat than Barzal, which is what we need. Plus he is bigger. From what I've read and know about him, Barzal seems like a Henrique type of player. Am I right?

Barzal is a pure play making center, Henrique is certainly not that.

To me Barzal seems like a faster and more defensively responsible prime Gomez. I guess it depends on what kind of center you want, a playmaker or a scorer. To me the playmaker is better because he makes his line mates better. Our best offensive days were with Gomez at center and Mogilny on the wing. I'd like a somewhat updated version of that.

Plus Barzals injury really made his stock drop. On the early rankings last year Barzal was ranked 3rd best prospect right behind McDavid and Eichel. He also plays on a team with much less talent than most of the top ten this year.

I think just comparing him to Henrique is a little unfair. He's worthy of being taken in the top portion of this draft and if we do end up with him don't be dismayed. He's very responsible defensively as well. He's a little more complete than Zacha. Zacha though has more potential for being the the more dominating type of threat with his scoring touch. Zacha provides more reward potential IMO. I like Barzal, but I do not think he's worth the #6 pick in this draft considering what else may be on the board, including Zacha.

At any rate, there's huge buzz that Boston may be trading Dougie Hamilton to Arizona for the #3. I would imagine Hanifin is a lock there if that happens considering the BU ties and the fact they just gave up Hamilton to get there. If that was to occur, Marner/Strome/Provorov to Toronto, Carolina becomes the key here. They could very easily take Provorov (or trade out to someone who does) and we end up with Marner or Strome. Strome is not a lock to be off the board at 6. I actually think hes more likely to fall than Marner now considering the buzz about Toronto/Marner is getting louder and louder. We obviously take Strome if hes there.

Yeah, it was only from what I've briefly heard about him. To be honest I did my researche and the other top prospects since I believed they had more upside. But I agree with your point on Zacha. I actually like him a lot and think he will become a very solid player for us. But who shouldn't become a solid player with the 6th pick? We just have to wait and see. Edited by Devs3cups

2012- H Lindholm

2011- Zibanejad

2010- Brett Connolly

2009- Ekman-Larsson

2008- Filatov

2007- Gagner

2006- Brassard

2005- Gilbert Brule

A bit of a mixed bag. I like our chances to get a good player, but it isnt a sure thing

the forward we'll get we'll likely be our best forward in 2-3 years no matter what.

From what we've heard, this draft is the deepest in a while, so I like our chances.

its just so frustrating to see "better" teams than us just getting better and better cause they have assets to make it happen. Our sh!t ex management really set us back so fvcking far.

I understand it's frustrating, but beating the dead horse in nearly every thread you post in isn't going to acquire us offensive talent.  The only thing that management can really be blamed for is probably poor drafting from 2006-2012 and poor UFA acquisitions to fill-in for said poor drafting.  I'd rather be in this position that the Devils are in, where new management really has a huge amount of options in terms of how the team can be rebuilt and restructured than the Boston Bruins or Chicago.  Boston just gave up a top 4 (and under age 25) defenseman because of CAP issues.  Boston just made Calgary a much stronger team with Hamilton.  You would be having a Parise-like conniption right now if you were a Boston fan.

they did just get the #13, Martin Jones and Colin Miller for a possible rental in Lucic...

made their day better a bit

But do they make playoffs without Hamilton and Lucic?  And it's not like the picks they are acquiring are going to benefit them in this next season.  I mean the players they draft with these picks.

Oh I know, trust me I wasn't jumping to aid there.

They might be sucking for that prospect who spells his name with an O. I saw the name earlier and thought it looked dumb, but now I can;t remember... I suck

This is gonna be a great draft for Boston's retool, picks 13-15 should all turn into impactful NHL players for that team, they reap the benefits in a couple seasons.

  1. Shero was talking with Montreal GM Marc Bergevin earlier. Could have been about 26th pick options

  2. Shero has mentioned multiple times possibly using one of the 2nds in a trade for a player. So, we'll have to wait and see.

Montreal is apparently looking at moving back from No. 26 and seeking two 2nd rounders. Could be option for Devils.

Hmm....interesting.  Is one player worth two in a draft like this?  I don't know if I'd like the move.  I think two 2nds are better than a late 1st.

It totally depends on who is there. If its a guy you want, you do it. Could also be more involved.

ROR to Buffalo.  No way it's for the 2nd pick.  What are Buffalo's later 1st rounders?

They don't have another one. They traded #21 to Ottawa earlier today.
