EdgeControl
my wish list for this draft is a 5th place or higher draft slot, and two first round picks and 2 second round picks. dont care how it happen but Im holding out hope for zid. is there a PO team needing a quick cannon on the PP? and for jagr, which team needs some 2nd or 3rd line help? outside of severson every D-man is in play for a trade up size is an issue in hockey, its a violent sport, you see guys like merrill struggling with the physicality of it. you need elite quickness if you're an frail ectomorph, but you can be small as long as you're stout Edited February 19, 2015 by EdgeControl
mrthemike
Marner is the same height as Parise. He will need to put on some weight though. 164 aint gonna do it.
Jerzey
Obviously points aren't everything, but Marner is up there. http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stats/show/type/top_scorers/ls_season/51 1 Mitchell Marner London Knights 50 38 62 100 47 2 Dylan Strome Erie Otters 54 34 64 98 28 3 Christian Dvorak London Knights 53 37 59 96 20 4 Joseph Blandisi Barrie Colts 54 40 49 89 96 5 Kevin Labanc Barrie Colts 54 24 64 88 45 6 Connor McDavid Erie Otters 34 30 56 86 42 Damn is that our Blandisi ranked 4th in scoring? There are some highlights on the main page of the Barrie Colts website where Blandisi gets a hat trick (empty netter). But damn this kid looks pretty good out there. Why did Colorado sleep on him and how were we the first to pick him up? http://www.barriecolts.com/ Edited February 19, 2015 by Jerzey Devil
MadDog2020
I pray someone takes Crouse before us... Reading that description, there is NO WAY Conte and Lou don't draft this guy if he's on the board when we pick... I mean, it's a lock. Jerzey
Blandisi is overage. 2nd-oldest player on his team and 2-3 years older than many of his teammates. So I guess next year he'll start out in the AHL. Hopefully he can keep it up and gets some games with NJ next season. He seems to have a good shot and good eyes. Hey now, let's not be too harsh. I mean, look at our draft pick history: Link Oh wait, nevermind. Since Parise and Zajac in 2003 and 2004 the Devils haven't had a forward dress for more than 200 games. Or score more than 100 points total over that entire time. Few even broke 50.. Christ. He seems to have a good shot and good eyes. Don't expect too much. 161 players were taken before him when he was drafted. Sure, sometimes late-round picks surprise, but I can't really make too much out of bloated OHL numbers and an overage guy tearing it up there...that's a high-scoring league. I think he's in for a rough go of it in the AHL.

But yeah I should not get my hopes up. Boucher was putting up big numbers in that league too.

Colorado Rockies 1976
Have we given up on Boucher already? As an NHLer, not entirely. As anyone who's going make much of a difference, yeah. He hasn't really wowed at the AHL level...he's still only 21, but I'm not just feeling it with him.
MadDog2020
Have we given up on Boucher already? As a difference maker? Yeah. If he becomes a regular NHL'er, he'll probably be a bottom 6 guy. In other words, a typical Devils forward. Same thing with that waste Matteau.
mrthemike
How does it happen that a player puts up 62 goals in 68 games in Sarnia (Boucher) and then just flatlines when he reaches the NHL level? Yet some go on to do well (e.g. Stamkos)? Is it a mental thing? Was Boucher just on a stacked Sarnia team? Did he fail to develop further and plateau pretty much at the OHL level? A bit of all of the above? You'd really think that the skill required to put up 62 goals in 68 games would at least transfer somewhat to the NHL above and beyond bottom 6. Jerzey
I'm surprised being a year or two older makes that much of a difference but apparently it does.
Mayday
I don't believe going off AHL stats is the best indicator. A lot of players tear up the AHL and do nothing at the NHL level and others put up average AHL numbers but put up very good numbers in the NHL. thefiestygoat
Those who know what they're talking about (because I obviously and clearly don't) - of the bolded below, who's your pick? And why? 1. C Connor McDavid (Erie) 2. C Jack Eichel (Boston University) 3. D Noah Hanifan (Boston College) 4. C Pavel Zacha (Sarnia) 5. RW Mitchell Marner (London) 6. C Dylan Strome (Erie) 7. D Ivan Provorov (Brandon) 8. LW Lawson Crouse (Kingston) 9. D Zach Werenski (Michigan) 10. D Jeremy Roy (Sherbrooke) My order of preference amongst those guys would be Strome (definitely who I'm hoping for), Marner, Werenski, Provorov, Crouse, Roy. With that said, I don't think the Devils will finish low enough to get Strome.
