titans04
I don't believe going off AHL stats is the best indicator. A lot of players tear up the AHL and do nothing at the NHL level and others put up average AHL numbers but put up very good numbers in the NHL. and what's that ratio about 1 out of every 50? I would say it's a pretty fair indication of talent overall.

A lot of players tear up the AHL and do nothing at the NHL level and others put up average AHL numbers but put up very good numbers in the NHL. The former is most certainly true. However, you'll have a very hard time finding a player that did not put up good offensive numbers at the AHL level for a sustained period of time, who managed to do so at the NHL level. Do you know of more than a couple of examples?
ATLL765
Strome is definitely the guy I want. I'm really hoping he's still there at 6-8 when we pick. I'd throw an extra pick at a team just above us if it meant we could have Strome. His brother is very talented and Dylan has better numbers this year than Ryan put up in his draft year. I really think he'll be a top 6 center.
Mayday
Backes scored 23 in 46 before making the jump (same as Boucher .5 PPG this year), Kreider had 23 in 48 before making the full jump (struggled intially but has steadily improved). So overall for a team that doesn't score much/isn't a top tier team in the AHL Bouchers average production this year is disappointing but I'm still excited about what he can bring to the NHL squad. The 2 leagues are very different animals. I'm not saying he will definetly be a steady 25/30 goal scorer in the NHL, but its still to be seen what he can here. Especially with the chances of NJ getting a very good center (Strome, Marner, Zacha, Barzal) in the draft I hope Boucher can thrive off playing with a good center. I know Boucher played with Galchenyuk when hit 60+ in Sarnia. Edited February 20, 2015 by Mayday
Neb00rs
Yeah Boucher broke Stamkos' scoring record. He can tell that to his grandchildren one day after he washes out of pro hockey in his early 30's.
vadvlfan
I wonder if Lou might possibly get calls on availability on Bouch and/or Matteau?

It was really not all on Galchenyuk
Triumph
Boucher is still only 21. I don't know why everyone is writing him off. He's having a tough season but they're also not putting him on the top line and so his linemates have been pretty brutal.

His play has been pretty brutal at times hence why he's playing down on the lines. I'm not giving up entirely but I've always been a bit skeptical on him. He's having a tough season but they're also not putting him on the top line and so his linemates have been pretty brutal.I think it's the frustration of not seeing progress, combined with our recent history of drafting forwards who don't pan out/reach expectations. Can you really blame us lol?
'7'
Sometimes I wonder, with somebody like Boucher we are perhaps stifling him, trying to turn him into a two way player instead of just letting him be the pure scorer like he is. this probably led to Brunners downfall here. They tried to do this to Ovechkin in Washington too. Neutered him for a while. It didn't work. Sometimes you just gotta let your scorers play, and run and gun. The Devils try to beat everybody into becoming Bobby Carpenter circa 1997,

He's having a tough season but they're also not putting him on the top line and so his linemates have been pretty brutal. People are not writing him off. It's just that after that big year he had in juniors, lots of people wrote him 'on' as a superstar scorer, when in fact, that was never going to be the case. People got their hopes up in times of desperation for a star player, and Boucher is bearing the frustration of the fans for not being able to come through on those hopes. SterioDesign
for a guy like Boucher it's gonna be primordial that he has a very good center. With a good center he could be something he's a pure goal scorer, if he can be in good position he'll put it in (thats something a bunch of our guys can't do) So as long Boucher's overall game is not hurting the team when he's not scoring, he could be a good asset but we'll see Edited February 20, 2015 by SterioDesign
nessus
Any reason those of you that want NJ to draft Strome prefer him to Marner? Is it anything other than size?
ATLL765
Any reason those of you that want NJ to draft Strome prefer him to Marner? Is it anything other than size?Part of it is size since all things being equal, taking the bigger player is a safer choice. In addition to that, when our biggest need is a top center, size is an even bigger factor. Not a lot of guys under 6' playing center in the NHL.Many scouts have Marner pegged as a RW and Strome as a center, so again, I think that's the more important need to address via the draft. You can find a RW elsewhere, but you'll never find a top center.
EdgeControl
draftnicks? which one of these top 5 to 10 forwards gets his shot off quickest, with some zip behind it?
Lateralous
With all the forwards they have stockpiled and the trading away of Wiz today, Columbus is looking more and more like a team that could potentially reach for a 2nd defenseman with the 4th or 5th pick if Hannafin is already off the board. Now that 6th overall looks about as good as the Devils can do, I'm obviously hoping to see one of Marner or Strome drop.

Ridiculous that the Devils won't be in the top-5. Just a damn shame. We can thank Cory, honestly - not a dig, he's been outstanding and it's been fun to watch. But he's the only reason the Devils are not in the McDavid discussion imo.
William D'Aquila
If we won the lottery, I would trade the first pick to a team like the Coyotes. A haul of Domi, their first, the Rangers first, and Rieder would be great.

People started ignoring him - I think that's the problem. Anyway - I'm going to start praying to the hockey Gods daily. Good God does this team need a McDavid type player. Jerzey
If we're picking 6-7 we should have a decent shot at Strome, Marner, or Barzal. I have a feeling Marner might drop because of his size. He's probably an NHL RW but we need that almost as much as a center.
