Still can't see severson on the team day 1- Could Lou be willing to start he season with only 6 defensmen so he has enough room for all these forwards? Just to give him more time to sort it out...

Am I correct with thinking that Lou does not have to send Harold down even if he clears waivers. I don't think he's totally out of here yet.

yea you're correct and Lou actually was quoted in saying there is no gurantee that Harrold is sent down should he clear waivers.  (im at work so i don't have access to TGs twitter where he has the link to his Fire and Ice blog but its in there i promise i just saw it :D).

that is correct. but if he wanted to send him down, this was necessary.

lou's left with the following moves (assuming that merrill is 100% safe and janssen is 100% sent down AND no trades are made):

keep harrold and send down severson

Keep severson and send down harrold

Keep them both, send down bernier. do not sign gomez or carter.

send one of the defensemen down

send bernier down

sign carter OR gomez

those are his decisions barring a trade.

Tootoo is still around.

Sad to see Carter go. I really liked him. And he seemed to REALLY hate the Rags, which is always a plus in my book.

Better options now, though. Best to him.

Me too. I wish I took the time to find him yesterday to talk to him. Always a funny conversation.

I always thought he deserved more ice time. If you are gonna ice Zubrus that many minutes than Carter at some point should have gotten some more ice. He's a complete player and has some finish to his game.

Oh well, really glad he got a job on his home state.

We made a mistake with Carter

Just curious why you think that? The team wanted him, but he turned down a contract offer. Then they liked what Tootoo brought over him.

Ryan Carter was a decent 4th liner, but was always overrated by fans due to his 2012 playoff run against the Rangers, the fact that he fought from time to time, and for the simple fact that he was never asked to do too much like Gionta or Bernier, so fans never had the chance to be disappointed in him.

The Devils didn't have a spot for Carter.  I'm not upset to see him go just because it means that the Devils must have trust in Matteau to be able to replace those minutes if there's injuries, and there won't be any blockage to Matteau getting on the roster next year (well apart from the inevitable buyout of either Zubrus or Ruutu).

He was asked to do a lot in 2011-12 and he flopped miserably.  I mean in the sense that he kept the Devils from true awfulness he was adequate, but he was a 3rd line center for several weeks when the team was terrible and he was not really playing well.  Then he was used as a 4th liner and scored some huge goals.

TG also tweeted:

"Carter said it's possible he could have worked things out with the Devils, but there was no guarantee today that they would sign him..."

I hope this isn't a case of Lou dragging his feet just a little too long with him. I hope that Lou gave him a hint that he should take another offer because I would hate for Lou to actually want him but after all this time, he signs with another team.
