The Devils are bad and it's time to tank

This is clearly one of the strangest comments ever.  What did he ever do to you?  Are you just anti-Semitic?

I also don't like people like Hitler, Ben Ladden, Bono and Gene Simmonds and never met any of them.

I didnt mean as a person like as a relationship between him and I.

I never liked him back to when he was asking crazy money too soon with LA so they couldnt keep him and were forced to trade him then his punk days in calgary where he suckered Havlat in the face with the top of his stick right at the faceoffs and then he wen to MTL and he was a bit too full of himself for my liking and his antics around the team and negativity got him traded out of MTL.

He's been clutch, has a good shot and all like i said i never bashed his skiills but i dont like his personality.

There's tons of amazing hockey player that i love has player but know i couldn't stand to be around, Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand are prime examples. lol

I wholeheartedly agree about LL. I have felt he lost his touch years ago and have said as much, the 2012 Cup appearance made me feel as though I was perhaps mistaken, but I couldn't shake the feeling that we were a bit fortunate and that it would turn out to be a fluke. It turns out I was right, but I honestly wasn't sure at the time. What I do feel more confident about is Lou. He brought us greatness and for that I am extremely grateful. However, this team has spent a decade clearly on the decline and it is hard not to see LL's fingerprints on a large chunk of the problems. Here's the problem for Lou as I see it: You can blame bad luck on Stevens's concussions and Kovy's bad back, you can argue that we were betrayed by Nieds, Rafalski, and Parise, you can argue that Vanderbeek screwed up the Devs finances and tied LLs hands, and so on.... but none of this explains the dearth of draft picks and the utter failure of those picks we have had. we were once the envy of the NHL in identifying talent. Now we have a farm system routinely ranked near the bottom in the level of talent stocked. The cupboard has run dry and that MUST be blamed on Lou. Then there are the inane FA signings. Not one or two screwy signings, but a slew of them, and the constant Ex-Devs reunion show we've been running for years.

I feel like we are some middle aged person that was really popular in HS and now we are trying to recapture our glory days by putting on the old HS clothes and hanging out with the old HS crowd. The problem is that they are ALL middle aged schlumps now.... and so is our team.

No one's saying that Lou's been perfect in recent years...it's been rough, and I've said I think there's been times where Lou's probably felt shaken, even though he'll never publicly admit it.  The drafts not paying off has clearly hurt...Lou has probably dipped into the FA pool more than he's ever wanted to, which I don't think he is terribly comfortable doing.  It'd be REALLY nice if Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas, and Severson (I'd be thrilled with three of them sticking) are able to become regulars...Lou could use a nice influx of homegrown talent.  I have no idea what he's going to do about forwards...Boucher doesn't exactly scream "star in the making" to me, and a lot of the more productive Albany forwards seem to fit into the Pierre Dagenais, Craig Darby, AAAA mold.

I looked up the negative Cammallerri comments from the day before he was traded because I honestly didn't remember what he said....

As quoted by TSN, Cammalleri said: “I can’t accept that we will display a losing attitude as we’re doing this year. We prepare for our games like losers. We play like losers. So it’s no wonder why we lose.”

I think if he had said something like that in our locker room with how the team was playing the last week or so, he'd be regarded as a hero.

One thing that "Could" help our drafting is trying to get a few extra 2nd round picks. Thats what you see a lot when teams are swapping and eventhough theres of course no guarantee that any of those players will ever pan out. Getting more picks if possible can only put chances on your side to find a gem

The one thing I want to see from the organization is that they realize that our prospects pool is really thin and that they could tone down a bit their "all in" approach.

One of the worst thing for bubble teams come trade deadline is that you have some really though decisions to make and it's obviously easier if you're clearly in or clearly out but If you're in the middle it's a total gamble. What do you do?

1- Decide to give up on some assets you know you can't keep and re-invest in the future with prospects or picks.

2- Decide to keep assets you know you can't keep but you go all in for a chance at the playoffs. Risking to lose them if you don't make it.

3- Gamble to give up on some assets you don't know if you can keep and re-invest in the future with prospects or picks.

4- Gamble and keep assets you don't know if you can keep but you go all in for a chance at the playoffs.

Any of those picks can be a good pick depending on the situation of the team of course.

It's gonna be interesting to see what Lou does with Jagr, Zids, Sal, Ryder, Brunner, Bernier, Tootoo and Havlat if were still a bubble team at the trade deadline. Not a lot of them could bring back big assets but getting AT LEAST a 2nd round pick for next year draft would be a victory to me. He didnt do it with Clarky which was the perfect occasion but let's see this season.

A good example is our own Clowe. He got SJ 2 2nd round pick and a 3rd and he scored like 1 goal that year and SJ we're in the race for the playoffs. They talked with him and knew they we're not gonna re-sign him. "They" we're able to make a decision with everything they needed. They knew their chances at making the playoffs, they knew the return they could get for him and they knew what they were gonna miss if he wasn't in the lineup. Just like for some team not giving up on some players played out in their favour.

What worries me the most is that i truly believe in my heart that Lou doesnt have 4 choices but only one and it's to keep everyone, doesnt truly know expectations if he can retain players and go all in no matter what.

i'd be fine gunning for the playoffs at any cost if our prospect pool and forward group was in better shape.

I guess a good way to look at it is that some teams can afford at the trade deadline to throw away assets (Pittsburgh, Wild comes to mind) cause they have a good core and a good prospect pool and can afford gambling assets in order to be better "now".

I feel our team is the other way around and we should be a lot more cautious and willing to make sacrifices come trade deadlines cause its undeniable that we need to get a better prospects pool

Yeah i'd see it the same way but thats not the quote im referring too. He was throwing fits at his coaches for playing other players over him on the PP or wtv in front of the other players and stuff like that. Thats what i really don't like.

You know, it wasn't until this post that I ever bothered to look up Mike Cammalleri and find out that he's not only Jewish, but a Pizza Bagel like me (Sicilian Dad, Jewish Mom). I wasn't all that sold on him when they signed him, but between his play thusfar and the fact that we share that cultural kinship, I am now all aboard the Cammalleri bandwagon.

Ok, anyone else petitioning to have SD be our general manager!?

No?

No.

Did you like Henrique's goal against the Rangers? Does that ECF banner make you proud? Maybe we were going to lose zach, *maybe*. But if we trade him at that deadline, none of that magic happens.

EDIT: I just went back and re-read everything again. You're an absolute fvcking troll. Finally it's time to put you on ignore. Sweet designs on the website though. you're really good at what you do. stick to that - not being an armchair GM and making a forum full of strangers want to strangle you.

omg XD

So right now, we're 19th in the league. I suppose it's safe to say that no one is going to catch Buffalo for the worst team in the league. We are two points ahead of several teams, some one which have games at hand and who should improve. Four points ahead of Edmonton (same amount of games played) five points ahead of Carolina (game at hand) and Columbus (same amount of games played). Figure we lose 10 of the next fifteen, trade Jagr and Zidlicky and go with a young blue line after that, a bottom three finish is realistic. That's kind of trouble, in that third and fourth best players in the draft are supposed to be defensemen, but it gives a realistic shot at winning the lottery.

Ford: Don't panic... don't panic...

Arthur: So this is it. We're gonna die.

Ford: Yeah. We're gonna die.

[pauses]

Ford: No... no! What's this?

[goes over to control panel]

Arthur: What's that?

Ford: What's this...? What's this...?

[flips switch]

Ford: This... is... nothing. Yeah, we're gonna die.

Cory's not going to be THIS bad the whole year.  If he is they got problems that won't be fixed by tanking anyway.

God I wish he would say something like this. If that's why he was traded, fine by me. Give me 23 guys like that any day.

Devils would have to start a drunk Anthony Brodeur rest of the season to have any chance of finishing with a decent enough shot at drafting McDavid/Eichel.

Well an added bonus to that is it would SURE appease the deluded "BRING BACK BRODEUR" crowd in the process B )

They have 0 chance at Eichel, assuming he is a definite #2.  They have some small chance at McDavid if they keep playing this way.

exhausting thread  I liked Derek's post.  SD is an hysterical artist.  I hate to say it - but it's just so much text so often I can't read it all.  and THEN everyone replies point by point after saying how exhausting and silly he is.

I never think tanking as any kind of an answer.  I have no answers for this team aside from learning to letting go of the things you wish worked but don't.  I was pretty infuriated when DeBoer said Larsson isn't a physical defenceman - that's not the kind of player he is.  WTF?  EVEN IF HE'S JUST SAYING THAT TO MAKE LARSSON HAPPY --- You fvckING SAY "SEE??????  SEE WHAT BEING A PHYSICAL DEFENCEMAN IS?  HOW IT"S BETTER -- MORE POWERFUL AND MORE IN CONTROL OF THE GAME THAN SOME RAZZLEDAZZLE PUCK MOVER.  THATS CALLED A DEFENSIVE FORWARD"  <_<    Just come on.  Don't say what you think they want to hear say the truth because it's BETTER than what they want to hear.  ok... so sorry for that outburst.  i just have issues with who I've decided DeBoer is.  He just doesn't see hockey quite the way I do,,, he sees it but he can't talk about it right.  better than most coaches so dont think I'm saying he needs to be fired -- just get it right man  GET IT RIGHT!

Oh and I thought Cammelari's comments were hilarious back in the day.  HILL-AIR-EE-OUS!!  but also amazingly inappropriate and very sour grapey.

Can we get rubber "WWPBD" bracelets?

I wonder if the Devils could convince Bruce Driver to come in as an assistant coach. I think he'd do well helping out the young defensemen in ways that Scott Stevens wasn't quite able to.

WWPBD - What Would Paul Bunyan Do?
