ATLL765
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penalty_shot_%28ice_hockey%29 Been around for 80 years so how much longer does it have to be before its considered hockey? 3 on 3 never happens in the course of a 5 on 5 game so why is it okay to go to that version of the game but a shootout is an afront to the hockey god They're both bastardizations of the game. Ties are fine with me.

AEWHistory
They're both bastardizations of the game. Ties are fine with me. Count me in as well. I never had a problem with ties and have always detested the shootout. The game should have been left alone. If they want to minimize ties then tinker a bit if they must, but the wholesale changes made to hockey have been a disgrace. Next thing you know they'll do something REALLY stupid and put a friggin trapezoid at each end of the ice ...... Oh... Wait.... Nevermind... Why make a rule to handicapp the skill of goalies? It clearly doesn't affect scoring in the way they wanted it to, so why keep going with the failed experiment? Colorado Rockies 1976
lol. The trapezoid is one of the dumbest rules in sports. Why make a rule to handicapp the skill of goalies? It clearly doesn't affect scoring in the way they wanted it to, so why keep going with the failed experiment? The funny thing about the trapezoid is that it was so clearly aimed at one player in particular. It's not like there was a bevy of players who could do what Marty could. He was a really good puck handler.
DJ Eco
Yup, it handicapped Brodeur, maybe DiPietro at the time, and later on Mike Smith, who's one of the best puck handlers in the game. That's about it. A rule put in place for a handful of players....
njskaguy33
To heck with NHL '94. The first thing I thought of when I read this was NHL Hitz: (Drinking game: In the epic intro video, try to count the amount of suspensions there would be in toay's NHL. You'll be drunk in no time!)
