RSC
I think press conferences should have Lou Stevens and Oates answering questions all at the same time. Something like Mizdow would make this all worthwhile
ghdi
When they announce the starting lineups at the games, who will they announce as head coach? The Hydra.

devilsrule33
Okay my Martian friend, here's how. The owners happen to own a basketball where tanking is the stated strategy and there are two generational talents to be had. There is a mumps epidemic that is tearing through the locker room, with another victim just announced today. In the meantime you hastily fire a coach that the players still believe in, and has managed to keep a bad team if not competitive in the standings, at least most games. And you don't name an interim coach, but instead do, I don't know what. It'll be official when Jagr gets traded. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk What?! Let's add two salaries to the payroll to improve the tankage, and Lou will oversee it from the bench to make sure two guys fighting for a head coaching job will execute his tanking plans. HellOnICE
This reeks of no one wanting to take the head coaching job. This also reeks of Lou losing his marbles. I can't see how "coaching by committee" is going to work with this group of washed up vets. It's going to become a beer league team soon considering that Oates and Stevens will only be there to facilitate lineups and line changes and that's it. Honestly, if he was going to go this route, he should have had a "player coach or player coaches" like Jagr or Elias. Remember when Chelsea FC had Gianluca Vialli as a player coach? I think that would have been interesting to watch...lol. Queue in the Price is Right's loser horn now... Oh my word... There's 30 NHL jobs. 30. THIRTY. 1 is open. PLENTY of coaches would take this job. But Lou is right here. I agree with him, it's not fair for him to hire a coach outside to come in and figure this crap out. What does Lou always say "When you have time, you use it." This is that.

DevilMinder
They are going to remove a couple of seats on either side of the Devils bench to add more space for additional coaches. Lou is looking for a coach for funny skaters.

HellOnICE
Meh Edmonton is a joke. Arizona is sort of a joke. Everyone else can suck it. We're having issues. Whatever. We now have 3 hall of famers trying to sort it out. I'd rather take time and methodically do things than make a bigger mistake. HellOnICE
I don't see it that way at all. Coaches are coaches. They want to coach not sit on the couch. They see long term they see a goaltender and a young defense and know it's a work in progress.

Certainly didn't show it out on the ice. Again, you project how you think about things on to what is going on, and can't see that you are doing so. Why would a GM hire himself as the coach to oversee intentionally losing? Does that make any sense at all? And this after 2010-11, where the Devils never tanked? DevsMan84
Best part is that troll Rich Chere has been very quiet this morning. I guess he is trying to figure out how to explain last nights MacLean announcement he made away.

Lemaire had just coached the team the previous year. Here's the players that were the same on those two teams: Kovalchuk, Zajac, Elias, Langenbrunner, Zubrus, Rolston, Clarkson, Pelley, Zharkov, White, Greene, Salmela, Brodeur (plus Palmieri and Sestito played briefly in 2009-10). But yeah, they hired an outside guy. Edited December 27, 2014 by Triumph

And by that standard Stevens wasn't an outsider either since he was on the staff the last two years. I also don't think that Lou is labeling this a hopeless cause.

Triumph
Then what would be unfair about anyone taking the job? Lou hired himself, Stevens, and Oates. These are three guys who've been around the team recently. I think he's saying it wouldn't be fair to expect someone to walk in here and feel comfortable making changes. Given what's out there coaching-wise, I can't be too surprised that he hired himself. We also don't have Lou's full quotes yet, so I'd want to see that in context,
