Oates and Stevens both coaching. Lou overlord. Barr Out.

The only rationale I can come up with is they felt he was a Pete loyalist or something was off in the room

Msweet had something on the negativity with his meet and greet with Elias.

lol so Lou's admitting they're 'tanking' when there's really nothing guaranteed to tank for unless you finish with the absolute worst record.

Clearly some don't understand the difference between tanking and rebuilding.  Tanking is actively trying to lose.  Rebuilding is doing everything with an eye to next year.

You don't have to actively tank. See the Knicks with Melo. :-\

It would be 'better' I guess for this team to tank. But losing is never good. If these guys can squeeze more out of this lineup - than great. Happy to see it. I'm very supportive of this 2-headed approach to coaching - I for one, think it could be rather inventive.

I don't know. In Football, a defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator makes sense, since these are two units that aren't on the field together. In hockey, a system incorporates all 5 players on the ice working in tandem.

Stevens and Oates have to have similar viewpoints on a system for this to work at all.

Honestly, if he was going to go this route, he should have had a "player coach or player coaches" like Jagr or Elias. Remember when Chelsea FC had Gianluca Vialli as a player coach? I think that would have been interesting to watch...lol.

Let's not forget player-coach Reg Dunlop of the Charlestown Chiefs.

Fan: "You guys gotta stop losing. Get the power play together."

Reg: "Yeah, we're working on it."

Wow. Definitely a lot to digest. However, despite the circus, I'm going to take a wait-and-see approach to this whole fiasco. For starters, the Devils most likely weren't going to make the playoffs this season anyway so any fan disagreement with the interim approach is a fairly moot point at this junction. I'd much rather the Devils hold off on hiring a new coach now and wait for the ideal candidate than panic and pull the trigger on some of the lame-ass coaches (Torts, Wilson, etc.) who are supposedly available right at this moment. I also think it's a positive having Stevens back in the fold. I'm not a huge Oates fan but whatever. And despite the black cloud that has been hanging over this franchise all season, there are a few bright spots. The Devils D is young and talented and with the proper coaching could really be the franchise foundation for years to come. Cory has taken some criticism, some warranted and some not, but he's not been the problem by any stretch. He's obviously a No. 1 goalie in this league and he's only going to get better. I think having a young D corps and suddenly playing 68 games in a season for the first time isn't as easy as some make it out to be. The forward corps is another story altogether. While I'm not usually a proponent of fire sales, I think in this case it wouldn't hurt. The forward corps is ancient and the Devils are going nowhere until that issue is properly addressed. And that's going to be the biggest hurdle for this organization. Jagr, Elias, Clowe, Ryder, Havlat aren't going to cut it. So it's time to cut bait with this group. In short, while it's a mess right now, I think this organization can turn things around sooner than most on this board think (assuming the right decisions are made going forward).

Stevens: "(Larsson and Gelinas) have to play. Larsson has made some steps. He's found a way to be an important part on this team."

From Pat Pickens.

I finally expect good things to happen. I know a lot of you are bummed about the coaching mess, but I have more confidence in this tandem then P.Bonehead.

It's great to say that. Stevens has the ability to try something different without feeling the pressure, but when everyone was healthy, the young guys were only scratched for Salvador. It's convenient that Salvador is injured. It's convenient that Severson is injured as well, so those two can easily play and get minutes.

It'll get difficult if everyone is healthy like it was to start the season. But for now, I welcome Adam having a bigger role.
