Triumph
I'll write a post after the Devils probably win tonight on why it doesn't make sense to want the Devils to lose a lot more this season.
Devils731
I agree 100%, but I'm not thinking rationally when I'm taking the train, walking a few blocks, grabbing dinner beforehand, and going to 40+ games at The Rock a year, I do it all because I want to see winning hockey, even though when I'm at home or in the office, I know we're better off losing. I just hate losing when I'm in "the here and the now" of a hockey game. It's selfish, I know lol But I can't justify season tickets any other way. Cheering and rooting for a win likely doesn't change whether the Devils win or lose. Cheer and root during the game and set the more logical side away until after the game. SterioDesign
No, it's not. You have absolutely no proof that younger teams get better over the season. You say it's true because it sounds true, and maybe it is true, but you have done absolutely no research on whether it's true. Buffalo is a way worse team than the Devils. They have the Devils' bad offense, plus they have the worst defense in the league, and their goaltending is average at best. Meanwhile NJ is getting back to being a middle of the pack defense and their goaltending is better. But again, you will see tonight - the Devils will outshoot Buffalo significantly, probably. Yeah yeah but all you look at in this case is results and data and come up with an estimation based strictly on that. Someday you'll learn that hockey is not baseball where 2+2=4 100% of the time. There might be injuries, our guys may keep getting sick, we will trade guys from our "core" soon possibly, we have slow guys who might get slower as the second goes on (we've seen it) I'm not here saying it's all gonna happen. I'm here saying you have no clue what's gonna happen simply based on stats. WAY too many things can happen. cheering for our team to lose is not a bad thing. We all want the best for the team and the best won't come from finishing in the middle of the pack and not selling guys and losing more assets
Jerzey
Cheering and rooting for a win likely doesn't change whether the Devils win or lose. Cheer and root during the game and set the more logical side away until after the game. That's how I see it. Always support the guys on the ice no matter what. But when looking at the big picture, seeing where we are now and knowing at best we still miss the playoffs, it's only natural to want a good pick. While winning the draft lottery would be great (and there's still the chance), I think pick anywhere in the top 7 would be great for us. Lots of centers to be had. devilsrule33
I'll write a post after the Devils probably win tonight on why it doesn't make sense to want the Devils to lose a lot more this season. I understand the reasons, but there are ways they can lose and not be hopeless. We saw a ton of it in 2013 and 2014 with Schneider playing well. But yes, if they drop to the bottom of the standings without major injuries, it probably means Schneider is struggling a lot, the Greene extension is really a big disaster before it even kicks in, Larsson isn't getting better, etc. It also means Elias is finished, there is concern about Camm year 1 of his deal, and Henrique is not giving the team anything. It would be bad news. Just hoping for no win streaks.

Even though it's not great, a prolonged stretch of .500 hockey is actually pretty encouraging considering how young the defense is and how putrid we are offensively. At least by staying afloat the young defense is probably doing their jobs and Schneider is playing well. I think everyone can agree that going something like 25-13-4 would be disasterous
William D'Aquila
This one smells like a shootout loss Under the old regime definitely. I would be surprised if Buffalo breaks 15 to 18 shots tonight. Yeah yeah but all you look at in this case is results and data and come up with an estimation based strictly on that. There are known knowns, there are known unknowns, there are unknown unknowns, and there unknown knowns?
Derlique
Under the old regime definitely. I would be surprised if Buffalo breaks 15 to 18 shots tonight. That was routinely what they'd get vs. the DeBoer coached Devils but we'd fall short by losing 2-1 or in a shootout

Devils731
let me just say this again... WE ARE NOT GETTING MCDAVID OR EICHEL Every team not making the playoffs will have some small shot at McDavid. Heck, the worst team in the league doesn't have a great shot at McDavid. Makes a ton of sense to me.
EdgeControl
let me just say this again... WE ARE NOT GETTING MCDAVID OR EICHEL still would rather have a 4-5 pick than a 6-8 pick. I think I know what we got in schnieder, we've lost plenty of games where he's looked very good. henrique is who he is, the D is set, we're 28th in goals per game THATS OUR PROBLEM. losing games can only help
jagknife
Lately when we play Buffalo it's been a very low scoring game, 1-0, 1-1 etc. I predict a snoozer tonight
DJ Eco
We got outplayed a couple times last year when Buffalo were at their worst (last season). Granted, I think they're worse now, but we never really pounce on these kinds of teams. Hell, look at how we've played Carolina our last two games. NewarkDevil5
I'm torn. I don't want the culture of losing that is associated with a wheels fall off nosedive of a season, but at the same time I'd love to have a true star player and the ability to restock our prospect list with better picks in the later rounds. It's a double edged sword. Losing can create problems in and of itself, but winning right now would solve nothing.
MadDog2020
One Cory Schneider boo-boo and we're on the train to McDavid town. Or EichelvilleI'd be happy to be a resident of either municipality! Edited January 6, 2015 by MadDog2020

It's a double edged sword. Losing can create problems in and of itself, but winning right now would solve nothing. Winning helps the young D and Cory establish themselves. God forbid both have a poor second half then the future doesn't look as bright on D AND the fanbase gets more skeptical of Cory.
