And I mean that without a hint of condescension. It was a huge hit! I was expecting a swing and a miss at a slider outside but he smacked a fastball back up the middle and it was all the Mets needed what can you say...deGrom did the job matching zeros with Kershaw (who was way WAY better than his final stat line) and the Mets ran Kershaws pitch count high enough to bring in a reliever that they at least had a chance at doing something against. What a HR by Murphy. For a lefty to take Clayton out like that is just spectacular. In a 5 game series there is no such thing as house money, so can't be too hard on them if they lose tomorrow. The Mets did a great job in that 7th taking pitches against Kershaw who got tired forcing Mattingly to make the decision he didn't want to. I'm happy for Wright. He deserves it. Colorado Rockies 1976 Posted October 10, 2015 Share Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) One guy seems to be very easy-going and extremely down-to-earth (but still competitive as hell) and never ever gets embroiled in drama and nonsense...and oh yeah, he's also very very good. The other guy seems to be all about himself, almost acts like the Mets are just a temporary stop until bigger and better opportunitie$ open up, and seems to love every last celebrity trapping to an almost ingratiating degree. And his agent, though one of the very best at what he does, is an extremely annoying douchebag. Not hard to see who fans are going to warm up to. But let's face it, in this market as much as any other, all people care about is results. What Harvey has really done with the innings crap and the missed practice and general lack of Everyman appeal is lose any benefit of the doubt he might've gotten with the fans if he struggles. If he stinks it up at home in Game 3, he's getting booed mercilessly (deGrom wouldn't). He pitches well and the fans will let the other crap go. But it's like I said, for the foreseeable future, deGrom will get a lot of leeway with this fanbase. Harvey won't. Harvey is young and will still be relatively cheap for a couple more years (his first arb year is this offseason, which means the raises start coming). Keep in mind that the AAA cupboard is pretty bare at the moment...and that Colon probably isn't getting re-signed. And Wheeler (who's not really a sure thing anyway) isn't due back until June-July. So basically, you've got deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, Niese (assuming he's not dealt), and...Verrett? Bowman? Their closest "next wave" starting pitching prospect in Michael Fulmer was dealt for Cespedes (though to be fair, opinions on Fulmer vary...some think he'll ultimately become a reliever in the majors). Does Sandy try to sign a 4th-5th starter-type from outside the organization? Harvey can be annoying and unlikable, but this is one of those deals that can't be bungled...they've gotta get some good loot back, and guys that will help them immediately.
