NJDevs4978
Whew...what a game, what a series. Thank god the dopey stuff doesn't matter anymore, from losing homefield the final week to Utley's takeout to Terry's dopey comments. All that matters is there's another baseball game Saturday night, at Citi!

dmann422
The same old Mets are officially dead. Best funeral I've ever been to. couldnt put it better the old mets choke that one away. Even Familia who loves to put runners on goes 1-2-3 to end it. Really happy for the team, and especially Terry. Degrom battled and we just got enough offensively. From the nightmare start to pulling it out in the end against seemingly impossible odds.
NJDevs4978
I actually want to hear Terry's presser, he might well go all Dick Vermeil and well up talking about deGrom.
capo
Who goes Saturday? Should be an interesting call. Could be anyone not named Noah or Jake... Probably Harvey.
Colorado Rockies 1976
Gotta be Harvey in Game 1 I would think. Might be Colon or Niese in Game 2. deGrom and Noah in 3 and 4.
NJDevs4978
They already announced Harvey for Game 1. deGrom can't go till Game 3 so he'll obviously go then and a possible Game 7. The tricky part is Game 2, with Noah's use tonight. Do they go Matz, or can they possibly go Noah with Colon to piggyback? I do think they'd start Matz over Colon/Niese and leave Colon in his rubber arm pen role. Edited October 16, 2015 by NJDevs4978
capo
I was thinking Bart probably earned himself a start, too. I doubt Niese sees much action.
Colorado Rockies 1976
As much as certain Mets did nothing this series...it's pretty amazing when you realize that the Mets faced the double-barrel shotgun of Kershaw and Greinke four times and came away with two wins. deGrom did a hell of job proving that he can go pitch-for-pitch with the best (both with AND without his best stuff). Maybe but I kinda like him better coming in after all those insane fastball throwers and giving a different look out of the pen. I'd be a little worried about Colon starting against all those sluggers of the Cubs.

I think I'd have to with Thor in 2. He was up a lot but he had a real easy inning. I'm sure he'll be fine for game 2. Then, deGrom will be lined for 3 and 7. By, having Harvey go in 1 you're going to raise questions about him getting a 2nd game.

For some reason I miscounted Matz's days rest...I thought it would be three if he pitched Sunday, but it'd be four. So guessing he gets Game 2. capo
The Mets will probably wait to name the game 2 starter, though. If you win game 1 it takes the pressure off of 2 which could mean Matz in that game.

That plus they have to see how Noah feels, they can't really name him now without seeing how quickly he can reload from this game.
MDPucks
deGrom impressed me more tonight than in Game 1 with his pure guts. Says a lot when a guy simply doesn't just "out talent" the competition but stabilizes. matches, then retakes control of the game. I have to say it but Terry Collins had a great night tonight. deGrom->Noah->Familia was the ticket tonight. I'll argue that this maybe the 3rd greatest Mets postseason game after 1- Game 6 @Houston 86 and 2- Game 6 Boston 86.

I don't know... not much of anybody did anything save Murph, Thor and Familia and Familia gives up a HR to Rollins or Utley it's a completely different story. I can't give TC credit he dodged a bullet with deGrom and once he finally brought Syndergaard in he yanked him too soon. Somehow, after it the baseball gods shined down on the NYM today but luck has most to do with it. Which is ok by me.
NJDevs4978
I mean it depends on your POV, do you credit Terry for stubborness (and he admitted in his presser deGrom was 'one batter' away from coming out of the game FOUR different times) or do you just thank heavens for the effort by deGrom and move on? A lot of us would have pulled the plug on Jake much sooner and that game could have turned out very different if Terry had, even if it was possible Noah could have also thrown five-six shutout innings if he'd come in early. Looked that way from his one inning but who really knows...and would Noah have been able to get to the end of seventh inning and give it to Famila for six outs or would they have needed someone else to bridge the gap if Noah comes in the first or second inning? Great pitching usually shuts down great hitting which results in games being won on the margins. Murphy's smarts, deGrom's balls, and Collins plan delivered.
