I can't believe that just happened

Honest to god I want to soak this in more. Can we move game 1 to Monday?

I don't know how deGrom gutted it out but he did. Yes luck was involved but he did make plenty of big pitches. We dangled by a string for 6 innings. It seemed like at any moment the Dodgers were going to blow it open...and it never happened

And fvck Cederstrom...I mean that strikezone did normalize as the game went on but for the first 5 deGrom was not getting the same pitches as Greinke

Daniel Murphy has etched himself into the hearts of Mets fans forever. Granted he may goof up a bunch of sh!t in the Cubs series...but for now he is GOLDEN. He can do no wrong, and he will fly back to NY on the wings of angels.

Great game. A lot of fun to watch without any anxiety. DeGrom is a bulldog. He battles. I thought he was done in the 2nd or 3rd when they got Syndergaard up. But he has heart. Also the Dodgers aren't good. Their hitters especially. Outside of Turner and A-Gone, that's a wohful lineup. Hard to fathom Mattingly didn't pinch hit Puig at the end. Greinke was tough after he gave up that 1st inning run. Mets offense almost paid. But Murphy is clutch. Great play taking 3rd due to Seager falling asleep. He stole a run. That was huge. Then he takes Greinke yard. He was locked in.

You have to give it up to Collins. He stuck to his guns with DeGrom and it paid off. Then went to Syndergaard for 1 when most felt he'd start the 8th. And thank god he didn't bring in Clippard. Went to Familia for 6 outs a la Rivera. And Familia has that toughness.

Congrats to the Mets and their fans here. Good luck in the NLCS!

TC left himself open to a lot of second-guessing and roasting if these moves hadn't paid off (especially sticking with deGrom and going with Familia for six outs when Syndergaard could've easily gone another inning)...but they did.  All that matters.

It's kind of funny in that TC basically told Reed and Clippard "I don't really trust you with a series on the line, I'd rather go with one of my top starters."  I don't blame him (especially in Clip's case), but when you come down to it, TC showed some both some serious balls and ability to think outside the box.  He could've easily just gone on autopilot and done the Reed 7th-Clippard 8th-Familia 9th thing, but to his credit, he went with who thought was his best, didn't stick to the book for the sake of sticking to the book, and didn't give a sh!t about anyone's feelings being hurt.  That probably wasn't easy for Reed and Clip to take.

And on that note...Loser and Doofus better start doing something soon other than striking out and not coming through.  Duda really deserves to be dropped to the 7th spot in the lineup at this point.  If TC wants to keep them in the #2 and #5 spots in the lineup for Game 1 to see if they can get it going, fine, but if they suck again (I fully expect Duda to...for some reason I'm a little more hopeful with Wright), maybe drop them both.

The fact Reed and Clippard also each gave it up once this series kind of contributed to the 'shortening of the bench' so to speak in Game 5.  It is kind of hilariously ironic that the biggest heads up play in the game came from a guy who's got a rap sheet of airhead moments

vis-a-vis Duda and Wright I think we do have to remember like 2/3 of the series they were hitting off Greinke/Kershaw/Janssen...they can put a lot of guys into slumps.  Not that Arrietta and Lester are a day at the beach but maybe there's more of a possibliity they get it going vs. Lester and whoever the Cubs' 3-4 is (Hammel, Kendricks?).  I actually have more confidence in Duda sadly, but yeah I don't know how long they really should keep up batting David 2 and Duda 5.

Mets 1-4 starters probably have the overall higher upside than the Cubs' 1-4, but it's not a drastic edge...especially since Matz is still kind of a maybe (though we know he's got terrific stuff).  But if all four Mets' starters all pitch to the top of their games (and let's face it, none of them really have consistently over the past two months), they're definitely the better group.

Just checked game logs to see how the Cubs' foursome have pitching the past few months.  Arrieta was obviously beyond sensational, and Lester has been very good outside of a few poor starts.  The other two, for the most part, weren't anything special at all.

Thor was dealing himself so I think Terry was golden regardless of what he did in the 8th/9th. We could've probably ridden it out with Noah just as well

And that ball Utley hit just felt like a gut punch. Thought off the bat it was gone but it wasn't even close to warning track

Agree on Utley, thought it was going deep...I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a pretty routine fly ball that wasn't deep at all.

Curious to see if Uribe is well enough to play this series. Should be a big lift for us having his bat coming off the bench.

I would entertain Uribe as a starting SS if Flores starts to look lost at the plate vs the Cubs. He's got a couple of hits but also, 4 strikeouts in his last 6 ab's(could Uribe's range be any WORSE thank Wilmers?)

Wilmer has been pretty good at the plate... David Wright on the other hand should be replaced by any body that can move. Uribe chest muscle pull and all will be better than anything David Wright can give us.

Nice way to start for Harvey. From all I've heard it looks like the Cubs are favored. Obviously, the Mets have to perform but I'll taking pitching over hitting any day.

However, Maddon is a brilliant manager and he is very responsible for the Cubs success in his first year there. He could be the difference here.
