Colorado Rockies 1976
Or it's just possible he's hitting better against non-Greinke/Kershaw/Janssen pitchers. I don't really get the vitriol at times around here tbh. Yes he's very sketchy in the clutch, he's hardly the only one and it's not like the guy doesn't care - he admitted he 'sucked' a couple days ago and gave Terry the okay to do whatever was best for the team. I've explained it on a number of occasions. Part of it is the complete and often predictable lack of clutch hitting, some of it is the way when the team has sunk in the past, he's sunk right along with them, and some of it is the way the franchise treats him like he's Derek Jeter and being much better than he really is. Wow...Cubs just can't seem to execute this series.
capo
I'd like 1 percent of Murphs new contract.

NJDevs4978
The Cubs having a mini-meltdown fieldingwise. Good, they deserve it after that chintsy play in the last inning.
Colorado Rockies 1976
And though this game is far from over (especially in THIS ballpark)...this is why regular season records against opponents mean jack sh!t...as the 1988 Mets found out the hard way. Jesus, strike out again Travis.
NJDevs4978
It's also far from over cause allegedly rain's on the way. Would hate to see this game get suspended and have to finish tomorrow, if nothing else cause it really hinders the chance of pitching Familia in both games should the situation arise. NJDevs4978
Damn...though Soler just hit another one. Glad to be wrong... Looked like the wind held that one in cause it was definitely gone off the bat lol Another easy inning for Jake as it turned out. God I never would have thought it but I'd try to get him through the eighth too at this point. You could always go to Familia for a 4-5 out save (though I wouldn't go there tonight). I would NOT do a six-out save under any circumstances though.

One of the worst moments of my childhood watching Kirk Gibson make me feel like my dreams could never come true. Thought the 86 team was better. But the 88 team wasn't far behind. Pitching staff had a hell of a year. Hell of a job by deGrom...again!
Colorado Rockies 1976
Guess Clip is getting the 8th. Guessing if he gets into trouble, TC goes right to Familia.
capo
Cone and McReynolds and HoJo. It's semantics I guess 86 won 88 choked. Edited October 21, 2015 by capo

capo
The Cubs look defeated. To think they were up and clapping to the music in the early innings. I've never seen anything like that.
Colorado Rockies 1976
Cone and McReynolds and HoJo. It's semantics I guess 86 won 88 choked. 88 Carter and Hernandez were declining. 86 team also was also more prolific offensively (80 more runs scored). Ojeda had his best season in 86 as well. To me the 86 team dominated...the 88 team was very very good, but just didn't have that same "We're going to beat you" swagger. NICE JOB CLIP! NJDevs4978
I still don't have anywhere near August confidence in Clippard yet, and this inning could have been dramatically different if Denorfia gets ball four called instead of strike three...but in the end Clip did what we NEEDED him to do, kept it at 5-2 and kept Familia from getting a 1+ inning appearance. A lot of talk about clubhouse issues too. The Jefferies thing. Cone was insane that year though. I remember watching the 88 All Star game and there were Mets all over the field. I'm with ya, I like Clip but he makes me squirrelly now. And the ump has been inconsistent behind the plate tonight. Just hope the Mets can tack on a run here...three runs doesn't feel like a lot in this ballpark...

I remember watching the 88 All Star game and there were Mets all over the field. McReynolds never really fit in with his teammates...he was a terrific player but was always an outsider. Jefferies might have been one of the most despised Mets teammates ever. Don't know if you're familiar with the story, but he sent an open letter to the WFAN basically whining about teammates knocking him in the press...he already had several of them that couldn't stand him...after that, they truly hated him. There was that article ghostwritten by Cone about Hershiser being lucky (among several other derogatory things written about the Dodgers)...that got the Dodgers all fired up...they knocked him out of Game 2 after two innings and 5 ER. THREE MORE OUTS JEURYS...YOU CAN DO IT!
NJDevs4978
Imagine how different this season would be if Mejia didn't get popped for PED's lol...Familia probably becomes the closer anyway at some point but it would have likely taken several blown saves first. Colorado Rockies 1976
Mejia was so meh-ish as the closer last season...so many tightrope acts. It was only a matter of time before he was going to lose the job. Not too many closers with 1.4 - 1.5 WHIPs survive for long... C'mon Fam...wrap it up before the rain kills the game...
