Travis Zajac

He's appeared to lose about 15-20 points per season, mostly in assists. Having a high volume shooter in Parise really helped him and is honestly something this team is sorely lacking.

Yeesh.  And when he wasn't scoring many points to begin with, 15-20 is pretty significant.

Zajac is fortunate that the Devils are terrible and cap space isn't a concern at the moment.  Because on a competitive team that is squeezed to the cap, Zajac's contract is almost verging on Clarkson-level bad.

It's been said but you're comparing apples to oranges. A guy about to go UFA is going to make more than someone who is still restricted.

I understand why its that way, maybe he should not punch his agent. But its still ridiculous, Zajac is worth no more than $3.5M per, while Tavares could justify $8-10M.

Tavares' deal was probably a bad business move for him - he should've taken a 2-3 year deal so he could sign a big one in his scoring prime. But you have a ton of players who are worth more than they're making, get big money and then aren't worth what they're making in their new deal because they're past their prime. Zajac is the umpteenth example of it.

Wasnt Travis votes most underated by the players a few years back? I might be completley making that up and im too lazy to check, I know its not points but obviously he does something right

Yes he was.

Zajac isn't paid like a number 1 center, thats 7 million plus. He is forced into playing a number 1 center role because we have nothing else. He is a great player to have but he can't be THE guy.

Everyone keeps saying he is not paid like a #1 center, but when the Devs GAVE HIM that contract HE WAS being paid as a #1 center!!  Why all the Zajac apologists??

So that was back before the lockout shortened season. Why are you whining about the value of his contract during the 12-13 season?  Right now he is not paid like a #1 center and that is what matters now.

I agree that Zajac shouldn't be our #1 center but you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel now for any excuse to hate him.

Honestly though Zajac was looked on as a #1 center at the time. He just had two 60-point seasons before 10-11 and had a big playoffs in 11-12 after coming back from the injury. Who knew at the time his offense would disappear when Zach did? (though in hindsight his production in 10-11 when Zach was hurt was the first clue)

He was extended when the lockout ended and the new CBA was in place. The contract didn't start until last season. Stop making sh!t up.
