Gary Glitter Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison for Sex Offenses

Recommended Posts

Nobody is obsessed with Gary Glitter, everybody pretty much acknowledges he's a POS who should rot in jail

Some fans...not all, like to keep the R&R part 2 flame alive by playing it on some horn and shouting you suck

I can separate the two...the fact that the guy is a degenerate scumbag doesn't mean its not a catchy song.

Nope sorry, every time i hear the song I think of it.  The guy you hear singing has tried to fvck little girls for the past 40+ years.

Ferris Buellers Day Off is my FAVORITE movie, but I can't look at Ed Rooney the same way knowing he tried to fvck little boys IRL

I separate the 2.  The guy is a scumbag and will likely get what he deserves in jail, but I don't think of him when I hear the song.  Some people do, and I get that, but I personally don't.

I also don't have a problem with the team not playing RR Part II as the goal song because doing so would require paying him royalties for the song.  The team should have just come out and said that from the beginning of the pre-season a few years ago, rather than go through that whole charade.  It wouldn't have changed the YS chant and the vuvuzela thing, but it might have quelled the uproar over removing the goal song itself which pissed a lot of people off.

This isn't the first time. I believe he was previously convicted on child molestation charges when the team removed the goal song in 2008 or so. If I recall correctly, the story at that time was, as part of his restitution, he forfeited the rights to royalties from the song, and that was the reason they brought it back a year or so later. Not sure if that is the truth, but that is what I remember hearing.

I have no problem with them not using the song for that reason. But I wouldn't be personally offended if it was played. Honestly, everyone knew he was a child molester for years and the song was still all over the place.

I had a HUGE problem with him getting royalties from sports teams playing the song. Now I don't care. I was concerned with him taking the royalties money and buying girls in Cambodia. I have no such concerns now. The man is going to die in jail.

I don't think the Gary Glitter situation had any influence as to why the new ownership wanted the song gone.

I know in 06-07 all teams stopped using it for this very reason though.

Penn State doesn't play Sweet Caroline anymore because of the "touching you" part of the song all due to the Sandusky fiasco.
